I find it hard to believe Phoenix could outdraw RHCP
Wu-Tang Clan overlapped weekend 2 because they came out late, Disclosure and Eric Prydz had solid draws weekend 2 and attendance was way down. Not too mention a Frusciante-less RHCP with, and I'm going to say it even though it sounds snobby and dumb, a sophisticated audience that year, it happened. Wu-tang, Pretty Lights, Modest Mouse were all bigger crowd draws W2 than the headliners I saw that year . I didn't see The Stone Roses at all but i hear it went well.

After this Nas album, I would really like to see something unique that would never happen and just have this run of Kanye produced albums headline together. G.O.O.D. music all over the poster would kind of irritate me, but all of them at the top of the thing sounds amazing to me in contrast. 2 and half hours of some of the best Rap/Hip Hop of the year and some of Ye too.

I think realistically we will get 070 Shake and Pusha-T. I’d kill for any iteration of Kanye, but I’m not gonna get my hopes up.

That is an idea that I would have been so much more interested in before these mediocre albums dropped

I think you’re right, I’m loving this new Nas album a ton though. Ghostface should get Kanye for this next Wu-Tang album.
Ive got a fair amount of confusion about the radius clause as there are a ton of contradictions, and noticeably a number of exceptions from examples from artists this year.
Artist shall not perform:
a) On any North American Festival from December 15, 2017 until May 1, 2018.
Artist shall not advertise, publicize or leak*:
c) Any Festival** or Themed Event*** in the US (not included in B above) until after
the Coachella announcement (this does not apply to SXSW in Austin, Ultra in
Miami or Jazzfest)
These seem to conflict each other, as Ultra takes place in March.
Additonally they dont allow anyone to publicize stand alone concerts in LA from December to May, yet the On the Run II tour was announced in this time slot this year.
There are obviously going to be exceptions to a rule.
St. Vincent played a ticketed Live Nation show in January - clearly within the radius - but GV obviously saw her enough of a priority to get on the lineup (and premiere her new full band show) that they granted her an exception. Similarly, I'm sure they granted Beyonce an exception in announcing OTR in late April / early May knowing she was flexible to push to 2018 instead of just cancelling outright.
And clause C you quoted above just says that GV allows artists to play SXSW, Ultra, and Jazzfest. So going forward, we shouldn't rule those artists out, but artists on Okeechobee, etc. are almost certainly out (as we have assumed).
Essentially, there's always exceptions to the rule, and nothing is firm, but we should consider any artist OUT that's performing in SoCal 12/15 to 5/1 or at a festival other than the above in North America between 12/15 and 5/1.
Also, I really hope Cayman Islands count as "North America" and not "Central America" and we can officially rule out The Chainsmokers and other acts on Kaboo Cayman Islands.

It seems like there’s a few contradictions. This year, SZA played both Buku and Coachella, and she was a sub at the latter. Plus, Buku has Coachella acts like Alison Wonderland and Flatbush Zombies.
Then, Okeechobee had Coachella crossover acts Illenium and blackbear.

This isn’t even getting into the Ultra crossover.
True, but I call those more "exceptions" than "contradictions." Acts like SZA, Alisson Wonderland, etc. have played a lot of GV shows and GV has booked them at multiple festivals. I would imagine if a big artist like SZA's agent/manager asked for one or two "radius clause breaking" shows, GV will probably consent to it, but they may not for a lineup filler third line artist like a Cold War Kids or Capital Cities or something.
Pretty much, we didn't learn anything from that article because any rule can be bended.
Why wouldn't it? It applies to all artists that sign the contract without negotiating those clauses.
So no, then.
There is another exception. Not that it’s the biggest one, but they usually share several acts with Buku which is another Goldenvoice owned festival. SZA and maybe Allison Wonderland and Rezz were the big names I can think of from this year, and it might have been 5 or 6 total. They announce before Coachellla, but I’m guessing that because it’s in their family, it’s okay. I’m not sure what other early year festivals GV owns, so maybe there are others as well.

Lmao. I gave it to Tim Hecker’s black out set. That shit was wild
Didn't get to catch that! There was minimal time left to admire all the art at that point so I used what time I had left before Thomy Boy and Nina went on. I was bouncing between Yellow and Blue during the closing sets haha

Yeah, I mean that's the problem with that festival. You have your interest pulled in a bunch of different ways. If they would open all or the majority of the art stuff on Friday, I'd have enough time to check most of that stuff out too. As it was, I walked through the ground floor stuff a couple of times and missed like 4 or 5 rooms upstairs just not having the time. I went up there right after I got caught when it was a fucking deluge and was right by the back door to yellow. So I just said "fuck it" walked in and upstairs only to remember that Venetian Snares and Lanois was still on for 20/25 minutes and immediately found my way down to Blue.
But the Hecker set was insane. There were some funny comments on last year's thread about people encountering those just waiting for Thom Yorke to come on and just getting sonically assaulted to the point of their pain. It was great and freaky. I wish there was more of it out there on YouTube, but I remember seeing like a minute clip of black with some sound in the background. hahahaha

I'm glad I skipped Thom because that Nina set was bonkers good. Loved how they implemented that 360 format for the DJ's.
