me: With all the hype surrounding new Tame Impala music, I can't help but feel that I'll inevitably be disappointed by it. This isn't to say that I find their music bad. I loved Currents; I just never got into Innerspeaker or Lonerism the way everyone else I know did, even if I thought it was good. I'm sure I'll listen to it and understand why everyone else likes it and be happy that everyone else enjoys it. I just don't think that there's any style or element that'll be on this new music that could possibly draw me in again.
Kevin Parker, adding the finishing touches to the disco rhythm on this song: :-)
And he already made a big deal of releasing actual Currents b-sides
In terms of melody sure, but in terms of production....not really?
There's more space in this song than there was on any song on Currents. It sits somewhere between Currents and Lonerism to me, where everything still sits up in the mix but there's one instrument that dominates the mix at a given time and it's not every instrument in the song sitting right there fighting for space.

I think it's much closer to Currents than Lonerism in its sonic palette and energy.
I will echo that it's also grown on me today. I like it more than a lot of Currents and am interested to see how it fits in the album, because it doesn't feel as single-y as the big Currents songs did

This is maybe true of “‘Cause I’m a Man”, but “Let It Happen” is a 7 minute track and no part of it really screams “obvious single”. And really, two or its biggest tracks -“The Less I Know the Better” and “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” either we’re released as singles much later or weren’t released as singles at all (thanks, Rihanna). I just don’t think that this song really breaks the mold of previous Tame Impala singles, and really, going full disco is an obvious pop move as any.
