Last night was so much fucking fun. I almost didn't go because I have to be in the right mood to go to a show solo - and I wasn't in that mood - but as soon as I got there the energy was great. It was largely because everyone was in their late teens/early twenties, so they actually HAD energy, but as soon as BH got on the place just exploded. I also discovered that I love moshing. I have nothing to compare it to, so idk how it compares to a mosh pit at a metal show, but I found myself giggling like a dork multiple times throughout the set. Totally wouldn't have gotten the chance to do that if I went with my girlfriend, so I'm glad I fought my mood and just went. They would be totally fucking BONKERS at Roo.

What are people's thoughts on the new album? I'll hit it up at some point this weekend, but ScHoolboy Q and Rico Nasty both have taken priority thus far
I feel like they matured on this with some of their best songwriting and song texture in their whole discography but I also feel like there are a lot of duts and missed opportunities here to flesh the album out even more out. The fact that they can give a song to slowthai or give a verse here and there to other vocalists helps stand this record out, not that every attempt to bring new people in results in a great song but it's refreshing. It's also worth noticing how invisible or better absent Kevin seems to be on this album, or is that just me? Dom once again proves he's the best rapper and writer from the whole collective on this thing and deserves a lot more praise, Merlyn and bearface grew aswell.

I only gave it one listen so far, but it seems like I disliked it more than a lot of people. I've never been a fan of the more "pop music" side of BH and this album had a lot of that. I definitely cringed a few times on the first two songs. The tracks that are more straight forward rap songs aren't that memorable to me either. The only track that sticks out to me is "Dearly Departed" which literally sounds like spiraling depression, almost to the point where I don't want to listen to it much. But Dom's verse about Ameer is so powerful on that track. I'll try to give the album another listen. But to me it just doesn't live up to all of their previous projects. It sounds like the band is in a really depressed state but they didn't really turn that into great music. It just sounds like uninspired sad music
There’s never been a BROCKHAMPTON album I’ve loved all the way through. I tend to dislike their melodic songs. I enjoyed this album about as much as their last one (I don’t love the Saturation series outside of 12ish songs). I feel like their prolific release schedule has just caused burnout on them. Each album has great songs but it feels like theirs always a new BROCKHAMPTON album and it makes me not excited. Boy Bye absolutely rips though.
I enjoy Brockhampton. I think their music is overall more interesting than not, and the production is top-notch. However it seems to me like as they've matured, they've lost a bit of spark, which they need since many of them are not great rappers. What they've lacked in technical skill or lyrics they've made up for in heart and experimentation. I think they're at their best when they're producing bangers. Personally I'd like to see more of Kevin Abstract than less; it's great that he gives his boys so much room to shine, but his influence really helps the group out - ARIZONA, BABY was great and I was hoping for more of that sound from the group as a whole. This album is slower and less rowdy, but after listening to it twice there's not much that has stuck out in my mind, which isn't a great sign. With the SAT albums there was always something the kept pulling me back to them - a beat switch, a lyric, a melody, something. Iridescence and Ginger, not so much.

That was rather painful to watch. Their energy is contagious and I give them props for going out there and doing something that's not in their wheelhouse - true freestyle is hard as fuck if you're not practiced in it - but there's a reason pretty much everyone who appears on Sway is just "freestyling" pre-written verses.
