There are two types of people - those that enjoy In and Out and those that enjoy being wrong.
The neopolitan milkshake is a personal favorite of mine. Also don't understand the hate the fries get. They are always fresh, and the animal fries are delicious.
Another chain burger joint that is pretty dang good is Red Robin. I think the Banzai Burger there is one of my favorite things ever.
Let's kick things off by saying I'm not crazy about cheese on my burgers. I don't like how cheese covers up the other flavors (the meat itself and the meat's seasoning, condiments, pickles, onions, etc.). People are always talking about cheeseburgers and I'm like I just want the hamburger.
And while I'm at it I love bacon but I find it superfluous on a hamburger. Again I want to taste the meat as my main protein, not another protein.

The very first Five Guys was opened in the city where I currently live and not too far from where I was born. However, I find their burgers hit and miss, especially now that they've branched out and quality control isn't the same.
Eaten a lot of Whataburger on birding trips in South Texas, fine but nothing special.
Hardee's is pretty good, but probably not as good as what it was 30 years ago.
I enjoyed in and out the last time I was in Arizona, but it's been 10 years so time for a refresher in April

Lemme go one step further and admit that I HATE bacon on a burger. Sometimes fancy burger places throw it on every dang burger, and I always ask to withhold it. I love bacon, I love burgers, but for the same reason you hate cheese on burgers I hate bacon on them. I can't even get the bacon and take it off later, the damage is already done.

I feel like both of y'all are missing out. I'll eat bacon on a burger that doesn't have any cheese on it. Beef and bacon together are good times.

Here I was thinking I was the only person who didn't like bacon on their burgers.
I think I just love ground beef so much that I don't want anything overpowering it.

I like a good In & Out cheeseburger (with grilled onions), and their fries are fine, but for burger and fries both, I'll take Five Guys over In & Out any day.

I love cheese on my burger, but I agree 100% on bacon. My husband always orders bacon burgers, and he acts like I'm crazy for preferring mine bacon-less.
Mayo is the best condiment for just about anything. If I had to choose one condiment it would be mayo. Great for burgers, sandwiches, dippin' fries and what have you.
But I'm not a ketchup hater. Sometimes I like it on my burger, sometimes I like to dip my fries in it. Not nearly as much as I used to but I still enjoy it occasionally.

Generally, my preferred toppings are cheese (usually cheddar), mayo, tomato, and pickles, but sometimes I like a burger with Swiss cheese, grilled onions, and sautéed mushrooms instead.
YUM YUM YUM! I love Burgers with cheese and bacon, no ketchup only mayo (you can throw a touch of brown mustard it on it). I will take mushroom, lettuce, tomato on it as well. I am so glad my shitty healthy choice meal is ready to eat now.

Fun fact: the ladyfriend hates condiments like the plague. If she is served a burger and fries with a ramekin of ketchup on the side, I have to remove it because she is afraid it will touch her.

I have two friends of 15+ years who HATE mayo with a passion. I'm surprised I still talk to them.
Jack Brown's is really good, 5 or so in VA and 2 in the Nashville area. Pal's might be my favorite as far as fast-food (popular in Tri-Cities of TN). Red Robin is a solid chain for a burger, fan of Five Guys as well.
Haven't had In and Out yet, but I have hardly ever been out west.
