I think a Green Day - NIN - Frank Ocean type situation would be a big win for Voodoo.
Didn't deadmau5 get cancelled due to weather in 2015? He could come back, but we are also open for Bassnectar/Skrillex/Pretty Lights.
He played 2017 Buku which doesn't preclude him from coming back with the cubes setup, but it makes it less likely. Bassnectar hasn't played since 2013. Skrillex as well. Pretty Lights was 2014. He lives here and can play whenever he wants. But I think he'll just be around the fest and probably not performing unless he does one of his secret sets under the bridge.
RHCP also played in January and did the JazzFest last year. There is no way they are coming back to NOLA this year.
I'm fine docking them off that list then. I just feel like there needs to be a 4th headliner and I don't know who this Frank O fella is. I don't think four big names is out of the question for voodoo.
He's a soul/R&B crooner - super young guy - who came up with OFWGKTA.

I read an article about famous people you didn't know where from NOLA and what high school they went to. I had no idea he was from here and went to Erhet. He even a wanker like me.

If I remember correctly, he lost everything he was working on musically during Katrina and just decided not to come back after.

Oh, interesting. I liked some Tyler The Creator 4 or 5 years ago, haven't heard much out of them since. I saw Odd Future during that awfully placed day time set several years ago at Voodoo. I think it was Tyler cussing at the reporters and the people in VIP? I think one of them kicked a reporter. And they kept yelling about "Free Earl". I thought the dude was in prison until I looked him up, his mom just sent him to boarding school.

He evacuated for Katrina to Los Angeles and didn't come back because like so many others, there was nothing for him to come home to. But I guess he is the real winner because of his outcome. Too bad so many others can't say that they are better off or have a success story after Katrina.
At least that is what I read in the article about famous people you didn't know went to New Orleans high schools.
It's not exactly a Houston > ?? > Birmingham kind of gap, so I wouldn't say highly likely. but you're probably right. i'd be fine with alt-j.
but lets all remember Voodoo's remarkable propensity to not book great acts whose tours appear to line up perfectly with voodoo. i feel like I remember them missing out on Rob Zombie or something a few years ago and I was pissed.
yeah, I didn't realize 27th was friday. So definitely more of just a possibility to play Sunday.
I just found out that our plant shutdown is starting a bit later and halloween weekend will now be right in the middle of it. Going to have to sell my ticket.
BOO!!!! longinus but I might be interested in buying them, if you ABSOLUTELY have to sell.
postjack You aren't even lying about that. Every year there are great acts missed for whatever reason. Seeing as though I don't even have tickets I guess depending on how they release the second tier and if it is after the lineup drops, this might be an interesting birthday.

I tend not to expect much from Voodoo, so I'm typically pleasantly surprised. They have been pretty consistent with booking quality headliners, there are always at least a few undercard acts I'm interested in, and City Park is two hours from my house.
either way we have a hotel booked in new orleans that weekend. our friends from houston are going to new orleans that weekend regardless, even if we don't go to voodoo we're just gunna hang out and eat and stuff.

I know I say this every year, but if you happen to come into town before Thursday evening, we will once again be doing House of Shock. It is my new birthday tradition. Thursday before Voodoo.
Gorillaz tour ends two weeks before Voodoo, and they're playing festivals. Think Voodoo appearance in the cards?
No idea. Green Day, Future, Gorillaz, Bassnectar, Alt-J, and if so or would they be an upper midcard act say like Puscifer? No idea. Luckily we are only 6 or so weeks away from the lineup. Unluckily there really isn't that much that's likely to leak, and Voodoo only shares some of the every other fest undercard and doesn't really cross as many HLs the same year as the other live nation festivals. That's mentally anecdotal but I don't think they have crossed that many HLs with Bonnaroo, ACL or Lollapolooza in a given year the last 2 or so. I think some of the subheadliner acts like Cage were around, but Tool/Weeknd/Arcade Fire 16; Ozzy with Slash, Tom Morello and Geezer Butler/Florence/Deadmau5 (15 Deadmau5 played Roo) and then Outkast/Arctic Monkeys/Foo Fighters/Skrillex in 2014. I think more headliners crossed with Hangout (particularly 3 of 4 in 2014, but also one in 15 and one in 16). C3 only took over booking in 15 and then everything else for 16. And they don't have a track record here enough to anticipate what they are going to do. If they do cross a Hangout HL this year, Frank Ocean is from here, Mumford could close out an Indie Sunday, or Chance could close Friday main.
I'd be super stoked to have Bassnectar and Future be our big edm/hip hop names.
Unless they are bringing in one of the top (house) DJ's, Bassnectar or Dillon Francis is probably most likely big wig EDM. Also, the only DJ I even like in the Top 39 or so is Skrillex. DJ Mag has Martin Garrix as #1 right now, and he had a big set at Coachella. But it sucked balls. (Top 100 is a terrible list at the moment: djmag.com/top100djs )
Future was #4 Main Stage (Buku lineup poster books by stage) so probably #6 or #7 overall last year at Buku. He's also playing that show Jazz Fest 2nd Saturday at Champions Square. So it might be too soon for a return being it would only have been < 6 months from early May to October. I saw him from Buku VIP with some dignitaries and Shorty. Cool set though autotuned too hard which everyone knows by now I don't like at all. Chance sold out Ballroom at Mardi Gras World in the fall (people were paying $200-300 a ticket and that probably holds 2,500-3,000. Then he was back with Dave Chappelle for NBA All Star Weekend. He's playing Essence which is in June. And there isn't much crowd overlap between Essence and Voodoo, it might also be too soon for him. Migos backed out of the Future show in May, so maybe they'll be sub-headliner rap act?

Gotcha. Yeah Migos would be cool. Schoolboy Q would be great if he's playing shows in the fall.
There's a lot of potential for a great voodoo this year, hope I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

I had a ball watching Schoolboy Q this weekend on the live stream. We saw him at Buku 2014, and that show was pretty cool too. You've been to more Voodoos than me since this is only my 8th one. But it's never not been worth that 100 for me for 3 days. So while there is likely to be shit like Matt and Kim and crap-pop EDM here and there, I think it's gonna be good. You already know a given day at Voodoo could be 20,000 or 80,000 people, and I'm guessing C3 and Live Nation will want to stabilize it somewhere @ 50/60k. But I don't know how they do that while minimizing NOLA acts. Maybe acts people would travel for?
I'm sure this is somewhere in this thread, but how much will GA and VIP passes be when they go on sale?
If they skip all the other tier prices that they have done in the past tickets will be $150 3-day GA; $550 3-Day VIP. Since they did the early bird completely different and haven't talked about any other tiers I am assuming that is what they are going to do.
If they do a second tier, they will probably be $125 3-day; $450 (or $500) 3-day VIP. Really we are all in new territory and it is all a guessing game.

I love the viewing areas for LOA, and I'm considering getting one, but there is no value at $400 or over since you don't get free booze. I'll pay $500 if they are going to offer that, but they haven't in the past. I already have 2 GA's for $100 that will partially offset whatever the cost of LOA is, but since they didn't offer it pre-sale, I'm probably not going to get it if it's over $350 UNLESS the lineup has 2 or 3 acts I need to see from the front.

Exactly. thejeremy and I were talking about doing VIP but they didn't have them in pre-sale. We didn't even get pre-sale (first time in 9 years), I am not happy about it.
I'm fairly certain it will be the best lineup they've ever had. That's typically how things pan out for me when I get cockblocked by work obligations. So I'm expecting Gorillaz, Nine Inch Nails, Kendrick Lamar, QOTSA, Ween, and Primus to be announced. Followed by me pouting for the rest of my life.
