agreed. voodoo consistently ups their food game though, i thoroughly enjoyed what i ate last year. but jazzfest has the best food of any festival by far.
Thank you all so much for the input. I was already leaning Voodoo and I think you just tipped the scales that way. I am looking at hotels now. Hotel 504 seems to be relatively cheap, close to Bourbon street, etc, but is that going to be too far from the festival itself? Any input on what area to stay, or not stay in is appreciated. First round is on me!

If you can find an Air B&B in Mid-City north of Jefferson Davis, that's your best bet (or by the Fairgrounds Race track or City Park neighborhood). I don't know much about Hotel 504. That's on Canal Street between the interstate and the CBD/French Quarter. It used to be an old abandoned building, but they renovated and opened it last year or so. You're about 2.5 miles from the festival. There are a couple of options. You can Uber/Lyft/Cab it but it's going to be surge pricing for an hour or so after the festival. There are some bars nearby within walking distance that you could kick back at and wait for the pricing to come down. Alternatively, the streetcar runs 24 hours on Canal Street, so you can walk down City Park Avenue to Canal Street (that's about a mile) and just catch the Canal Street Cemeteries streetcar to your hotel ($1.25 each way). There is also an extended street car that runs on North Carrollton (Canal Street - City Park street car) which is just by the entrance to Voodoo, but I don't know how late they run. Next there is a shuttle service to a few blocks away from where you are staying. I think it runs on the half hour or something like that. Finally, fka Phi said that he just hopped on an empty city bus for a buck or so, and it took him right there. I'm not sure where you catch that or whatever, but it won't be hard to find.
The key with staying downtown or the French Quarter is that you're really not that far from the festival, but you will need transportation if you plan to drink heavily. And that's doable. If you can find something closer, you can probably walk or hitchhike.

We got an Airbnb just north of the French quarter and that was prefect for us. We ubered to the festival and then walked back to the house after the festival before walking down to the French quarter. Festival is over at 11PM Fri and Sat so the night is young when you get out. Our spot was about a mile and half from the festival and a little less than a mile from the French quarter if I remember right. It was a very doable walk to either.
Not a chance. But good call. Who even knows what the double quartet stuff is? I saw them on the Thrak tour with the sextet. Obviously it was beyond ridiculous, but anything plus Bruford would have always been elite before he retired.
lol @ them playing Vodooo, FOH What a waste that would be.
Can only hope they play the Saenger or something. I'd drive as far as Houston to see them. Per a PTer who got the info from a King Crimson board, there may be a fall tour as well in the USA.
The dates that have been announced suck for the SE. The only one I could possibly swing is Denver in June as it looks like its on the Saturday of Panic Red Rocks weekend; that would be a great 3 day run.

Could Green Day be in play here? They cancelled in 2012 and never made it back. Unless I missed it they didn't have any Nola dates in their tour this year.

They most definitely could play. They have not made up the missed performance or announced any NOLA dates.

I'm Not wild about the possibility and would greatly prefer a return of Nine Inch Nails for the main rock headliner, but I guess I would probably hang out around the back and watch unless they annoyed me off.

They are way down my list of choice for headliners. I would not be happy with them on the lineup anywhere.

I get that nobody really wants them but I'd humbly enjoy it, and would be much easier to convince my friends to make the trip. Certainly easier than say NiN, even if that'd be a better show.
At this point the headliner pool is so shallow that I'd be OK with Green Day. Not thrilled but OK. I've never seen them and at least I'd know some of the songs. And the chances of Le Plur offering a tempting headliner alternative are much slimmer than they used to be.
But if there can be only one 90s headliner, I'd take NIN any day. I'd take NIN over most bands, period.

Yeah I think I said it before in this thread, but as my first favorite band and a band I've never seen, I'd be down with Green Day, as long as at least one of the other headliners was someone I'd be legitimately excited or. Not really sure who's in play for the fall, but at least this fest is safe from The Weeknd!

If anything is certain, if I go it will be Kings of Leon. I seriously can't escape those bastards.

thanks. i know i told someone in here id sell em ticket at face, cant remember who. if that person doesnt need one, ill gladly give it to someone else for
i got you. i ended up getting hit with a 2nd wedding this weekend. talk about bad luck.
Boycott them both. ------------------ I haven't done any analysis lately between same year, year before and year after among live nation fests (Roo, Lola, ACL) and how they relate with Voodoo. If I remember right, Foals, Chainsmokers, Cage, Band of Horses and Bob Moses crossed with ACL last year. That's upper-mid and upper card except Chainsmokers who were near the top. Chainsmokers, Band of Horses and Claypool-Lennon crossed with Roo. I don't recall much of a crossover with Lolla.
What does this mean? Not much. Probably a couple of 2017 acts cross, but not many.
Realistic? Idk. We have about 2 1/2 months until the lineup. Early guesses:
Nine Inch Nails Green Day Major Lazer Big EDM Star DJ though not sure who at this point (won't be mau5, and probably not Gramatik; been since 14 since Skrillex and Pretty Lights played and 13 since Bassnectar). LL Cool J, Wu-Tang Clan or possibly Future as primary rap star. M83 and Big Gigantic

I would love Wu-Tang but what about Tribe Called Quest? They are doing shows.
