I remember seeing his standup when I was a student at University of South Carolina. Someone shouted out "Do Aristocrats!", and he did like a 10 minute version of it. People unfamiliar were walking out they were so disgusted. It was awesome. Rest in peace, Bob.
Maybe it’s the compromised brain cells but I could almost swear he said a few months ago that he had been battling some pretty bad illness for several years. Maybe I’m mixing that up but I’m fairly sure.

Seeing his video of the aristocrats melted my brain since I grew up on Full House.

Have you seen the "between filming scenes" clips of him and the other grown ups on the full house set doing tons of dirty jokes? Crazy mind blowing. And would likely get the whole show cancelled now if any of that got out lol
Apparently he was “found dead in a Florida hotel room,” and unfortunately, we all know what that means…
I saw "no foul play or evidence of drugs" so I'm bracing for the worst. Could be natural causes but we'll see. He seemed pretty happy with his wife when I saw them doing goofy tiktok trends and stuff. But who knows?
I’m weirdly upset about Bob Saget. I think bc it’s so unexpected and he’s just been in my life for as long as I can remember. Im hoping it wasn’t suicide. His last IG post seemed so energetic and optimistic about his return to stand up that a suicide would really be left field. But I’m reading there’s no evidence of drug use. So unless it was some underlying condition, idk what else it could be.

I've never posted this on here, but figured this is the most appropriate time.
John Stamos is a friend of mine. In 2013, I told him Bob Saget was going to be one of the comedians performing at Bonnaroo. As he always does, John said "oh cool, let me know if you want tickets or whatever."
The next day, he says, "so I looked up the lineup at that festival you told me about yesterday. McCartney, Tom Petty, that's a good lineup." Of course I told him he should come. Didn't think he would.
A month or two later, I get a text. "Are you still going to that Boneroo". He was thinking of going with Bob, so I told him all about the festival, and that I think he'd enjoy it. If anything, he'd have an excuse to see Paul McCartney and Tom Petty. Again, didn't think he would actually come.
Friday of Bonnaroo, I get a text. "See you at Boneroo".
Couple days later, I'm drunk in Bob's green room at Bonnaroo with John, Bob, David Cross, and Bob's daughters.

I’m the opposite… I got to know Bob through his ribald humour (Half Baked, Dirty Work, The Aristocrats), then 1 vs 100 in the late 2000s (shout out to my fellow game show nerds), and in recent years I have gotten into Full House and How I Met Your Mother. Feels weird to see.

Looking back, TGIF was an escape for me and gave me a window into another family when my own wasn’t so kosher. They were just silly shows, but Full House was a fundamental part of my afternoons and Friday nights. Definitely feels like losing an old friend.
Also, RIP to Michael Lang. Both had a tremendous influence on me throughout various phases of my life.

As a Gen Xer, my first real exposure to Ronnie Spector’s voice was in this absolute banger of an Eddie Money single:
Of course, my music nerd-dom then led me to discover the rest of her work and story. She was a fascinating and talented woman who survived, somehow, being married to one of the industry’s all-time abusive assholes.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Burke Shelley died on Monday. He was the guitarist and lead vocalist of Welsh hard rock band Budgie, a trio from the 70’s. They existed before the term heavy metal was in use and were blues based. They were generally anarchistic and didn’t give a fuck about authority while often taking on bullshit social constructs. They influenced everyone from Metallica (who covered Crash Course in Brain Surgery) to soundgarden to many of their contemporaries like Iron Maiden all while remaining in the underground. I had some headbasher friends who turned me onto them early in high school and became a big fan. They released a few dozen albums, but I mostly only listened to their 1970’s albums. In for the Kill, Squawk, Bandolier, Never Turn Your Back on a Friend, Impeckable, etc. They were known for their super heavy sound with his high falsetto, scratchy vocals. It’s not that he was a good singer or had a good voice. I don’t either. But it sounded right against the power of their instrumentation. Though I never got to see them live, they were always on the bucket list. Adios amigo. \m/
