My group is getting in a day early. We did the same thing at the last one. We're going to take a quick trip into Playa del Carmen early the next day to eat some authentic cuisine and get some "supplies" on 5th Avenue. That game plan worked out pretty well for us last time. We asked our taxi driver to drop us off at the best restaurant, and he dropped us off at this amazing little place a few blocks away.

My wife remembered, and we just looked up a Google street pic to confirm. It was called El Fogon. The address was Calle 6th bis & 30th Ave., Playa del Carmen. It had great food and a nice atmosphere, with open-air seating. A mariachi band even walked by and started playing on the sidewalk at one point. I think we're going to go there again in a week. It's super highly rated on Trip Adviser, too. One of the nice things is it's a little removed from 5th Avenue, so it's a little less touristy.

Weather forecast looks scary. Someone please reassure me. Until last year hangout fests forecasts have always sucked and turned out okay. Its gotta be the same on the other side of the gulf. Right?

I wouldn't worry too much about the forecast. Last time they were forecasting some storms, and it ended up being beautiful. If we do get hit, I bet it will be a pop up and move on. The forecast I looked at also showed the chance of storms dissipating through the day, so there shouldn't be many worries come music time.

So this was worth every penny. The music, the resort, the people. All amazing. Jim ended with a "see you next year," so I guess we'll be doing this in 2018?
My roommate and I already decided we are headed back next year. The FOMO was real, but I know at 7 months preggo she wouldnt have wanted to deal.
Part of me wants them to try a different resort. I know at panic in la playa, phish, and holidaze (umphreys/sts9/Bisco) they play on the actual beach. Plus it would be nice to mix it up a little.
It is my life goal to make it to one of these, and next year might be the year. Though if the rumors of a three-night stand at Red Rocks late in the summer are true, that plan could once again change...

Well, I waited to post a quick review because I've been somewhat bummed about having to return from what I considered Music Festival Nirvana. My little group had an outstanding time from start to finish. I thought MMJ brought it on all three of their nights. That Run Through was one of my favorites, and I loved how the crowd exploded during the fest-ending One Big Holiday. I'd be remiss if I also didn't point out how magical it was to see everyone connecting and singing Give Peace a Chance together after the Sunday show. I had a smile for such a long time after that. Overall, it's refreshing how all the fans down there come together to create such a great and friendly vibe. From the time you step on the bus to go to the resort, everyone is laughing and talking and getting to know one another. That vibe continued through the whole festival. I also love how friendly the staff is. They really go out of their way to make all of us feel welcome. By the way, if you saw Wolverine, Captain America and The Hulk on the last day, I was Wolverine.

Seeing pictures and videos of some of those magical moments that I either didn't realize was happening (the big circle) or didn't realize the extent of what was happening (how wild that crowd was during One Big Holiday), made me (kind of) sad.
I told myself that I would either take a step back or watch a set from Sassbox! 's balcony for at least one night, but when it came down to it, I couldn't stay away.

I was a little bummed about that until I looked up some pics of the Hard Rock there. It looks even more heavenly, if that's even possible.

I welcome the change. Two years at the Hard Rock in Mexico were great, but I'd be glad to try a new country. The panic fans I have talked to about their little fest in DR have had good things to say about the Hard Rock there.

That's an awesome picture of Carl! As an aside, I thought his afternoon set was killer. I'd seen him once doing the new album by himself, and having a backing band really brought the songs to life.

Thanks I only take a small handful of pictures a show so I always have to cross my fingers that something is share-worthy.
And I agree. I enjoy is solo albums, but I didn't expect to rock out as much as I did. I thought it would be a lot tamer.

just a heads up. I talked to a rep at Cloud9 adking if this was happening this year. Got this response:
We have not yet announced future One Big Holiday, but more information is just on the horizon! Make sure you keep an eye out on your email and the OBH Facebook page for more information about this epic event!
Also, anyone from previous years will be emailed pre-sale tokens (even if you didn't go to this year). I looked at the Hard Rock availabilty, and they have three 4-day blocks listed as unavailable in late January 2018.
So I guess keep waiting but I think the signs are there that this is a go.

YES! That's what I need. If our alumni association schedule follows its normal course (it doesn't always), there would be a meeting on 02/03. If I buy my OBH tickets for a different weekend, and then the meeting gets changed up- that's not my fault!
