debord with some boring play calls, dobbs making bad decisions all night, the O-Line getting pushed around, a lucky as quack OT TD. that was just plain ugly.

I tuned in just for OT, and I see UT win, you all are welcome for that, but yeah that last play was dumb as fuqk. Lucky Dobbs did not break something.

So UT fans, do you have more of a "that was a fluky performance...we will turn it around next week in Bristol" feeling or a "fuck, prob not a top 15/10 wins going into bowl season type of team which the vast majority had us at for this year" type of feeling?

I am definitely less confident going into my aforementioned visit with the lady's family full of Tech fans. I tend to ride a steep rollercoaster of emotions during football season though.

I'm not a UT fan but I think they just didn't get up for that game. They underestimated App St and sleep walked through the entire game. They got lucky to win, they fumbled and if Hurd didn't jump on that ball, they probably would have lost. It was a horrible performance, but I think they'll be fine. It's not going to change the course of the season. Dave will hate this, but UT right now reminds me of some Clemson teams in the past. There were years people expected them to be really good, they had plenty of talent, they just never reached their potential. Maybe they don't get there this year, but they will do it soon.

I thought UT was certainly over-hyped going in and should have been preseason ranked in the 20s, so I already leaned slightly toward the latter, but I still expected us to handle App. St. They kicked our ass and we deserved to lose that game, and we are very fortunate to have pulled out the W. I am still hopeful that this will serve as a wake-up call, but I do not see the level of improvement from last season that one would expect with so many returning starters. I am still hopeful for a bounce-back performance next week, but my pessimism is growing.

Two things I found alarming from the Vols last night, 1) Both teams carried the ball 43 times last night...UT averaged 3 yards per carry while Appy St averaged 4.3. Appy St was winning the battle at the line on both sides. 2) It seems like Tennessee is still struggling to find playmakers for Dobbs.
Like Sang said, they didn't appear to be motivated for the game and Appy St is a solid program. Went 10-2 last year and will prob go either 9-3 or 10-2 this season. Still, you have to wonder if they're going to make the leap to a top 10 team that they were projected at going into last night.

Some thoughts after sleeping on it. Tennessee was run-first all night, and a lot of the pass attempts were screens or slants. App st. Didn't worry about having to drop into coverage until obvious passing situations in our inevitable 3rd and longs. I'm hoping we ran a tight playbook because first game and all that, but we needed some vertical throws to take pressure off the line. And so, so many mental mistakes. I'm hoping it was preseason hype, Bristol looming, and the Thursday night that affected them. but im glad they have an extra two days to prepare for VT and this lit a fire under their asses. Who would have predicted the first time we touched the ball this season would be Sutton muffing a punt? That and the non-TD seemed to throw everything in a loop they just couldn't escape. Just total mental breakdowns all game.

Sorry I'm so late to the party guys. War Eagle!
So, 2016 Auburn preview.
Last season: We sucked. God did we suck.

QB: Sean White. Kinda surprised Franklin didn't get the nod.
Jovon Robinson is gone. Roc Thomas is also (really could have used him now).
Couple grad transfers on defense.
The Schedule:
Week 1 vs Clemson: L Week 2 vs Arkansas State: W Week 3 vs Texas A&M: W Week 4 vs LSU: L Week 5 vs Louisiana Monroe: W Week 6 at Mississippi State: W Week 7BYE Week 8 vs Arkansas: W Week 9 atOle Miss: L Week 10 vs Vanderbilt: W Week 11 at Georgia: W Week 12 vs Alabama A&M: W Week 13 at Alabama: L Outback Bowl vs Minnesota: W

I feel for you Tennessee folks starting with a heart attack but I do appreciate that we had a good game last night. I was bummed when I turned on ESPN and saw a half-empty Vandy/USC game about to start.

EDIT: Forgot LA-Monroe
I know I gave a shrug emoji a page back for my prediction but this is about how I see it going. Though if we go 6-6 and wouldn't be surprised either. Auburn is so damn unpredictable.
Did you watch Last Chance U? I watched it last week. John Franklin III was one of the main characters in it. It made the doc even more brutal to watch knowing he's not starting at Auburn.

I feel like we're a weird team. We could go 6-6 or somehow end up playing for the title. We're like that every year though, I guess.
Oklahoma ends the year as the only unbeaten team in the country.
LSU wins the SEC
Alabama ends the year with 2 losses
Clemson loses to Florida State but wins the ACC anyway
Tennessee, USC and Georgia end the year Unranked
Iowa goes unbeaten again until the Big 10 Championship Game
The Final 4
1. Oklahoma 2. LSU 3. Clemson 4. Michigan
Heisman: Baker Mayfield over Watson and Fournette
National Championship Game: Clemson vs Michigan
National Champions: Clemson
The Other NY6 Bowls
Rose: Iowa vs Oregon Sugar: Alabama vs TCU Orange: Florida State vs Ohio State Cotton: Houston vs Stanford
A couple things here don't make sense. If FSU beats Clemson but doesn't win the conference that means they lose 2 other games. I don't see that happening. Also if Clemson wins the national championship Watson wins the Heisman. There's no way Mayfield wins it in that case.

You forget they give out the Heisman before the bowl games.
I have FSU losing @ Louisville and one other game, either North Carolina, @ Miami or @ NC State
This season is about two things - James Conner and Penn F---ing State
- First of all, James Conner will be playing on Saturday with no physical limitations at all. This is a miracle. He was the 2014 ACC Offensive POY and hurt himself in the first quarter of the first game of the season, tearing his MCL and missing the year. Then, while rehabbing, he noticed something was wrong with his body. On Thanksgiving morning, he got a diagnosis of Hodgkins lymphoma. He announced it at a presser two weeks later and everyone was blindsided; seriously thought he was announcing whether he would be going pro. "I realized fear is a choice. I choose not to fear cancer. I choose to fight it and I will win." Seriously, I love this kid and I can't wait until he scores that first touchdown.
- Second, we could go 3-9 this year and beat Penn State and I wouldn't be that upset, meanwhile we could go 11-1 and lose to Penn St and it would still sting.
- On offense, we return 5 starters on what should be one of the better lines in the country, with 6 potential NFL players at least. We return Vols transfer Nate Peterman as our QB and have a deep backfield with Conner and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year Qadree Ollison among the returnees. We lost Tyler Boyd at WR and there is a huge hole there, but I look at it as an opportunity for someone to step up.
- Defensively, the LBs are pretty atrocious. The D-line was restocked and another Vol transfer, DeWayne Hendrix, looks like he could make a huge contribution this year at DE. The secondary continues to adjust to Narduzzi's aggressive scheme and they added a lot of talent in the offseason.
Running down the schedule:
- Villanova - w - Penn St - first game since 2000 between in-state rivals and the first of a 4 game home and home. Vegas had us as 9 point faves but it's down to 5.5 last I looked. I hate predicting this game. - @ Oklahoma State - probably a loss just because it's on the road and a tough test for the D - @ UNC - I think we can win this one. They can be run on, and we should be able to run the ball. Hopefully that's the gameplan. - Marshall - these types of games scare me - Ga Tech - two years ago they were our homecoming game and we fumbled 4 times in the first 8 minutes to go down 28-0. So there isn't anywhere to go but up (I hope!). - @ Virginia - better beat them before Bronco turns them around - Va Tech - at home, under the lights, I like us, but better beat them before Fuente turns them around - @ Miami - this game has produced 3 road winners since we joined the ACC - @ Clemson - this will be a loss but that defense needs to shape up. I think we will run on lots of people this year. - Duke - questions at QB, we butchered this home game two years ago - Syracuse - haven't lost to them since both of us joined the league, but Babers was a great hire.
Wins - Villanova, PSU, Marshall, Ga Tech, UVA, Va Tech, Duke, Syracuse Losses - Clemson, Okla St Toss ups - UNC, Miami
I think we can do 9-3 in the regular season but I'll be more conservative and say 8-4. Same regular season as last year with a tougher schedule. Thoughts ncbst3 ?
You pretty much nailed it. We could beat both UNC and Miami but were Pitt. I think 8-4 (9-3 doesn't seem undoable with Connor back) is where we land and we lose in a ridiculous bowl game like every year. Always a win we shouldn't have and an atrocious loss. In typical Pitt fashion, we'll play down to Cuse or Marshall and show up against Ok St.E
Its Gameday!! So sad I'm not at Heinz Field right now. I still got up early and did the ritual breakfast. Its the first time I've been homesick since I moved.
