Dear Alabama fans, you just got one of the best ADs in the country. I hope you're smart enough to appreciate it when he points out that there are indeed sports outside of football. Also when he doesn't listen to your advice when hiring Saban's replacement (or any other coach for that matter). Just trust him, he knows what he is doing.
They don’t need any help. The rich get richer.
Absolutely, that is the way of the world, but there is also room for improvement. Obviously they have a great football program, but they don't necessarily have a great well-rounded athletics program. If anyone can turn Alabama into a Florida, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, type athletics program it's Greg Byrne.

They do alright. Fine baum was telling me all about it yesterday about how they win championships in other sports that people don't care about. I thought it was great that’s what they were talking about a week after the national championship game. They're decent in basketball and baseball to, that's about the only thing they can really improve.

I don't know the specifics of the Alabama athletics program and which non revenue sports they excel at but one of Byrne's theories that he instituted here to decent success is that while non-revenue sports may never break even, increases in attendance and support can significantly offset their costs. At Arizona under Byrne's tenure attendance went up in Baseball, Softball, Women's soccer, Gymnastics, Volleyball, and Beach volleyball (introduced while he was here). None of these sports make money (baseball has actually gotten to the point it breaks even some years which is almost unheard of) but by making them more viable it helps spread the Football and basketball money further.

In other AD news, it has looked like for a while that UT was going to grab UT Chattanooga's AD. He's done well down there, and he looks primed for a jump to a larger program. Then yesterday, news breaks everywhere that Fulmer has the job all but locked down. I really don't know how to feel about this.
Tennessee has also fired DB coach Willie Martinez in favor of Charlton Warren from UNC. There's conflicting reports as to whether he will also be the special teams coordinator. Not surprised they made a move there since the secondary was a mess at times this season.

Has fat Phil just been sitting around since being fired? How long ago was that?

He's been around doing different special roles for UT and ETSU. The main concern is that, whereas he has been around the duties, he has never actually done the job, and a program as massive as Tennessee's would have a steep learning curve to it.

You never know when it comes to those situations. Dabo had never been an a head coach or even a coordinator. SC made their baseball coach AD a few years ago and I guess he's doing an ok job. How old is Fulmer?

66. David Blackburn, the guy people figured would get it, is 51ish.

I like the idea of Fulmer as AD. He's never been one, but he's been around the Tennessee athletic department for decades, knows boosters old and new, and no one questions his commitment to UT. Everyone wanted Blackburn, but I'm not disappointed with Fulmer.
Outside of Cam Sutton, our DB's have been a weak point in recent years. I dunno how much of it is on Martinez, but that's definitely an area we need to improve. Our young guys at CB this year made some egregious errors.
