I’ve seen DMB 10 times now, first Dave and Tim show last summer. I have a pit ticket for their Atlanta show this summer, but I’m not sure I want to see them play without Boyd.
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
The Hotelier, I've seen them 8 times since 1st seeing them in 2014. They're an awesome emo/post hardcore band from MA (home state) so I see them whenever I get the chance.

Whoa hadn’t heard that. Are they replacing him? DMB without ridiculous electric violin solos could be interesting.
Edit: it looks like Robert Randolph will be the replacement? That could be okay

That's the latest rumor yeah.
They played a show before the superbowl without him (the day after he announced he was taking a break) and I read how a lot of the songs sounded weird. It can be avoided as there's tons of tracks where Boyd isn't prominent but still. He's still a highlight to me when I get to see them live.

Ha, I was going to post about this awhile ago, but all the DMB threads are years old and I figured no one would really care anyway.
no one really knows what they are going to do though. DMB played the night before the super bowl in Minneapolis, and Boyd was apparently in town but then didn't perform with them. He was in the studio to work on their new album throughout last year though.
They played without a violin that night and it was...interesting. Tim Reynolds did a lot more electric guitar stuff trying to fill in and it didn't work.
there's no official word yet what they are going to for the tour. There's this lady named Anne Marie Calhoun who played on some of the string arrangements for their previous albums, is into the "jam scene" (jammed with Widespread Panic and disco biscuits, covers phish in her bluegrass band) and is classically trained and really talented. I think she should get the nod. If they don't get a violin player, I imagine there will be a lot of unhappy "Dave" fans this summer.

When I hear Dave Matthews songs these days I get a warm high school nostalgia feeling right up until that violin solo kicks in and all I can think is “how did I ever listen to this/who let this happen?”

I think Katie Jacoby would be perfect but I think she's touring with Journey this summer?

DMB is also my most at 9, so if you skip this summer ill tie you. As for no Boyd this summer, it does worry me but my first ever DMB show was at Nissan Pavillion, LeRoi's last show. I didnt think there would be another sax that would come in and fill the void but I think Jeff has done a really good job in the band since he joined. I think there could be another fiddle that they pick up that could be close to Boyd in talent, albeit probably not stage presence

RR would actually have me intersted in seeing them for the first time in forever, but it's surprising they would choose a straight up departure in sound like that...hope they do.
Phish 73 (+17) Umphrey's 12 Mothers wine 10 ShwizZ 10 (+2) FiKus 10 (+2) TAUK 10 (+2) Dopapod 11 (+3) Kung fu 8 (+1) Lettuce 8 (+1) Sister Sparrow 7 Soulive 7 Brummy Brothers 7 Twiddle 6 Turkuaz 9 (+3) Consider the Source 6 Motet 5 Main Squeeze 5 Heavy Pets 5 WSP 5 Bon Jovi 8 (new addition - haven't seen since i made this post but forgot to add them initially) G-Nome Project 6 (new addition) Tweed 5 (new addition) Space Bacon 5 (new addition)
More will come to me as soon as I hit post. I figured 5 is a good cut off for my list
The Lone Bellow (12) The Districts (9) Father John Misty (8) Lucius (8) My Morning Jacket (7) Courtney Barnett (7) Dawes (7) Lady Lamb (6) Hiss Golden Messenger (6) Dispatch (6) The Head and the Heart (6) Shovels & Rope (6) Tame Impala (5) Glen Hansard (5) Lord Huron (5) Lake Street Dive (5) Chadwick Stokes (5)
I've actually been to far fewer shows the past few years then previous. I think I just see the same bands more and the rest of you all spread it around more. No way I go to that many more shows then other board members here.
I've only been really extensively going to shows for the past four years or so so there aren't many bands that I've seen multiple times, but I thought it'd be interesting to see which bands you all have seen the most.
1. Mumford and Sons (5) 2. Alt-J, Twenty One Pilots (4) 3. The Avett Brothers, Flying Lotus, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Circa Survive (3)
Now:
1. Chance the Rapper, Mumford & Sons (7) 2. Alt-J, The Avett Brothers, 21 pilots (4)
I think it's funny that I've seen Chance 7 times in a 2.5-year period. You could say that it's because I've had several...chances.

They were based upon The Lennon Sisters. I had a crush on the youngest Lennon Sister when I was a little boy, so my mother and my aunt took me.)
First concert alone - The Jackson 5/Tavares, Rochester War Memorial, 1975
