That's very exciting. I've been wanting to get into REM for a little bit.
Didn't the Scotts have fans that wrote them about having an REM podcast themselves? Kinda sharked their idea, but with Adam's love for REM it was bound to happen anyway.
They'll almost certainly have Stipe on at some point. I think he's done Song Exploder and he did an interview podcast with a dude that ranked all the REM songs.

This is definitely going to inspire me to go more in depth into REM's catalog than I have before, which should be fun.
...at this point there’s an expectation that, yes, R.E.M. are not only gonna be on it, but they will re-form and play on the show. And that’s all we really need: We need a good three days of their time where they re-form, they play in one of our backyards — we have a backyard barbecue that they play at — and that’s really all we want from them, and that’s why we’re doing the show.
if you guys haven't listened to this week's comedy bang bang, make it a priority. stephanie wittels was the guest, and there was a great conversation about harris and their sibling relationship and grief. her book recounting their lives together and her life after his death comes out next week.

YES. It was nice to have a little change of pace and have a more serious conversation on there. Like all things Harris it was both hilarious and heartbreaking. I especially liked hearing Stephanie's experience listening to unheard Harris podcast appearances.
It also helped that the improv portion was really great. Will Hines is one of my favorites on there and Tawny Newsome killed it.

tawny's intro made me laugh harder than anything since janice cramps "hi, i'm pregnant!" i want a collaboration between rum tum tugger and mc sugarbutt.
I did not listen to the U2 podcast, since I have zero interest in U2. But R.E.M. is a perfect band for this kind of podcast, since I love them but am by no means a superfan. Nice taking this journey with two comedians I love that are super passionate about the band.
I love all the silliness, it's fun. I'm not sure what jokes, if any, are holdovers from the U2 podcast, but the little episodes-within-episodes (we love film) are wonderful.
But more than anything I love the enthusiastic way they talk about the songs, because it's just how I react when I listen to say, the first few seconds of The Smiths "This Charming Man". It just makes me want to rip somebody's face off it's so good. You can feel Scott and Scott's blood pumping when they react to a great opening guitar riff or chorus.
anywho thanks for the heads up. I'm almost done with episode 2 and enjoying every minute.
U Talkin U2 To Me got me into U2, and R U Talkin is getting me more into R.E.M. I especially like Chronic Town.
I Love Films was a big one in the U2 show. They even did it with U2 when they came on. Bono talks about his love for Whiplash and JK Simmons. Other mini-episodes include Great Bits, Talkin Bout Turtle, The Almighty Daughter, What's Your Deductible, Bro? and, of course, Talkin Bout Money with Harris "Small Change" Wittels.

Not a bit but I hope there's a Staind Glass sequel

Staind Glass is one of the funniest things I've ever heard. Todd Glass is such a lunatic that the Scotts straight up forget to do their bit and just want to hear more about his parties.
And one of my favorite recurring things on those podcasts is Adam Scott's, "I want to say hello to my friends... I want to say hello to my family..."
i finished stephanie wittels book last night and sobbed until i fell asleep. it was funny and sweet and absolutely heartbreaking. as someone who has been in what feels like a constant state of grief for the past few years, it was nice to see a lot of my feelings put into words. i highly recommend it if you were a fan of harris or just want a good laugh/cry.
If you guys haven't checked out The Butterfly Effect with Jon Ronson, it's a great podcast. Ronson does a great job of exploring the unintended or unforeseen consequences of recent changes in the online porn industry. It was much more topical and engaging than I expected it to be.
Jason Alexander on yesterday's WTF with Marc Maron!
postjack - did you listen to the TMBG episode? I really enjoyed it.
Yes, the TMBG episode was great. I've been a fan of TMBG for a very long time but have never listened to a long form interview with them. Loved all the talk of their early days. The most interesting theme was how important it was to "not sell out" during the 80s and 90s, these days it seems that isn't even a thing anymore. Which makes sense given the economics of music these days. In the 80s/90s even if you were a smaller band you could make a living selling CDs and touring to promote those CDs, whereas these days you aren't going to make any money selling albums, so you are left with touring income and licensing your music to commercials or similar deals. The running joke that they are looking for projects that pay a lot of money for minimal effort was funny.
Got just a couple minutes left on the Jason Alexander episode, it was great as well. He strikes me as a legit good dude, and I always like it when fans of the podcast just show up to talk and promote nothing. Makes the whole conversation feel more loose and genuine.
I've only listening to a couple episodes of The Watch, but it's generally pretty good if they are talking about a show you are interested in.
But I'm really loving the most recent episode. Jake Johnson (Nick from New Girl) is on for a long-form interview/riff. I am a big New Girl fan, but I've never heard Jake interviewed, and jesus he is hilarious. Super duper funny. There is good insider stuff about New Girl in there as well, but mostly it's just him riffing and improvising about getting out of acting and getting into "business" because he is a "business man". It's nonsense but it's great.

Jake Johnson absolutely seems like your funniest friend that accidentally became a TV star. I've always enjoyed him but his talks with Chris and Andy are really great. And goddamn do I want to see tag now.
Look out for any episodes where they bring Jason Mantzoukas on. He has a sincere and charming affection for them too so it's not just two nerds geeking out over a really funny guy.
I've been listening to The Watch for a while now and I think they've really made some good changes lately. The watch club and book club stuff makes it fun to follow something along with them instead of tuning in and hoping they're talking about something you like. It's worth following them on Twitter or Facebook if you want something like that.
The most recent West Wing Weekly episode is focused on Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail, their West Wing fandom and how it impacted In The Heights and Hamilton. The episode is (mostly) without Josh Malina so Hrishikesh Hirway gets pretty Song Explodery. It's pretty fascinating stuff.
A cool bit covered was an early performance of "Alexander Hamilton" for President Obama years before the musical came about:

Just started listening to a new podcast from my local NPR station. Awesome story about life in Nashville's largest public housing development during a major reform effort.
