Came to recommend No Dogs in Space. It’s a music history podcast by Marcus Parks (from Last Podcast on the Left) and his wife Carolina. Their first series is on The Stooges. It’s deep dives on genre defining bands. It’s very good.
It’s on Spotify. The first two episodes can be found in the Last Podcast feed on other platforms but the whole last podcast network is going Spotify only.
started episode one of this today. basically it's chuck klosterman and chris ryan talking about music, so in other words, really exciting.
the first episode is focused on music criticism and the impact (or lack thereof) it has on how we hear music. really nerdy discussion, very inforoo-ey.
so we all know it's hard to get into hollywood handbook. i've listened to all of the first year and it still didn't totally click, but recently i listened to the comicon live recap episode and the episode where they negotiate their contract with scott, and both were super funny to me, especially the contract negotiation. so maybe i'll understand it yet.
i can show a remarkable amount of grit when i want to understand an inside joke.

Any of the episodes with Tom scharpling or Julie klausner help. Those have good storylines and jokes. The Moshe kasher episodes and appearances all rock. And the masked guest/engineer episodes are classics.
It definitely takes time to get into. I love it from beginning to end because now they're at the point where they constantly talk like they're trapped doing this and hate it and don't even remember their old bits that fans love.
It also helps to listen to the pro version and Hollywood masterclass. I can't get enough of the boys
With so much fear in the world right now, seeing this almost made me break down from surprise and joy. Take the silver linings where you can everyone:
Hamm was awesome and the Pro version I just listened to was a classic with some Sean/Hayes arguing and hurt feelings about the movie scenes Sean liked.
But this? Sinbad is back? On a bonus episode? He was one of the great guests and I never thought they'd get him back. This is awesome.
Looking for some podcast recs to get me through quarantine. Could be anything As long as it’s quality.
You like the NBA, right? There are a bunch of good NBA podcasts hosted by comedians. Dunktown is my favorite but Flagrant Ones, Horse, and Air Buds are all good/popular too. The Podstar Weekend mega cast featuring all of those pods would definitely hold up in non-NBA times.
A24 podcast and Talk House both have interesting, evergreen interviews with musicians and film makers.
Baby Geniuses is a fun hangout show with Lisa Hanawalt (creator of Tuca & Bertie, art director for Bojack Horseman) and Emily Heller (producer/writer of Barry and Medical Police). They just chat about dumb stuff but I like it and it's a fun distraction.
Culture Kings is similar to Baby Geniuses but they interview a guest and bull shit about all sorts of stuff.
Doughboys is another hangout chat show but they (theoretically) review a fast food chain but really the hosts just drive each other insane.
Judge John Hodgman where John Hodgman mediates a petty squabble between loved ones.
Urgent Care where comedians Mitra Jouhari and Joel Kim Booster give life advice to people who send in tough questions (it's generally bad advice).
Bubble is a narrative science fiction story voiced by popular comedians. It takes place in a future where all of humanity lives in a giant bubble on a dangerous planet. Leaving the Bubble exposes you to violent creatures and horrible conditions. Under the Bubble, humanity operates mostly as normal. It's very satirical of modern hip society and tech based dipshits and things like that. I don't have a high tolerance for sci-fi but I enjoyed this.
Dead Authors where Paul F. Tompkins plays H.G. Wells and interviews other comedians in character as famous authors. The Andy Daly episode where he plays L. Ron Hubbard is an all-time great.
99% Invisible a public radio feature show about good design and innovation.
Reply All is similar to 99% Invisible but it's about internet and technology weirdness. The most recent episode about a forgotten song and the two-parter about an Indian call center are great.
Cool Playlist where Eliza Skinner and a friend make a playlist for a s very specific situation.
Fake Heiress is a BBC investigative podcast about Anna Delvey, the scammer who stole millions from rich New Yorkers. It has interviews as well as fictionalized versions of scenes from the story.
Heat Rocks: music journalists Morgan Rhodes and Oliver Wong interview someone about their favorite album. Morgan and Oliver both are great at describing the sound and spirit of an album and it's made me appreciate a few things even more. The episode about Outkast's Southernplayalistic is one of my favorites.
Unspooled: Paul Scheer from How Did This Get Made and Amy Nicholson, an actual movie critic, watch all of the AFI top 100 movies and discuss if each entry still deserves to be on the list.
Vinyl Emergency has some interesting interviews with musicians, producers, and shop owners who don't usually get interviewed about the music business.

Dumb People Town. The Sklar Brothers and Daniel Van Kirk have fans send in news articles of dumb people doing dumb things. Scroll through and find a guest you enjoy. Tig Notaro was one of the first guests and would highly recommend that one.
Office Ladies. If you are a fan of The Office. Angela Kinsey & Jenna Fisher are doing a rewatch podcast with inside scoops and special guests like Creed and Greg Daniels and Rainn Wilson. It’s wholesome AF and I love it so much.
Obscure with Michael Ian Black. MIB reads Jude the Obscure and comments along the way. It was more wonderful than imagined. I hope he does more.
No Dogs in Space. Marcus Parks (from Last Podcast on the Left) and his wife Carolina deep dive into punk music. So far they’ve done The Stooges, Suicide, and just started a series on The Damned. I can’t hype this one enough. It is Spotify exclusive and that’s the only downside. The Stooges series ends up being like 6 hours or something. There are playlists for each episode.
The only one I really listen to regularly is Conan O'Brien's podcast, Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend. I've listened to a couple of episodes of Andy Richter's podcast, it's alright. And I've skipped around the guests for Dax Shepherds Armchair Expert, it's fun when he has a good guest.
