With PJ, and now dead & Co touring as well, I can't really justify Roo this year. The headliners kept this lineup afloat, and they will be down the street this summer. Mediocre lineup Bonnaroo....try again next year. First break since I started in 09. I've come to grips with that. So Dead and Co, maybe PJ, Peach fest, and a toss up between Made in America or Camp Bisco isn't a bad summer outlook so far. Mentioned this in the Wayhome thread, but it will be interesting to see what people think when pretty much every festival associated with AC, Superfly and/or LiveNation has a lineup that is head and shoulders above Bonnaroo's. They know Roo will sell better than those fests even with a worse lineup. Maybe once those fests gain the relevance of Roo, they can have shitty lineups too!

Lolla sells out every year yet live nation doesn't purposely give it a shitty lineup.

I'm not trying to argue Lolla puts out the best festival lineup every year I'm just saying the Lolla still puts out a quality lineup most years even though it always sells out.

It's the exact type of thing that I'd like to see the BCD opine on. What a shame.

I think they doubled down on appealing to 19-20 year olds who haven't been to many festivals or concerts, and started loading up easy to book festival cannon fodder rather than book the type of lineups they did when they were trying to establish themselves at Grant Park.

I see what you're saying. It's undeniable the shift in acts booked. Although there isn't anymore mainstream artists at Lolla than coachella which people seem to love on this board(although again you might not like that lineup either). I guess it comes down to personal tastes and I definitely see where you're coming from.

I guess it comes down to personal tastes and I definitely see where you're coming from. That's incorrect, IMO. Lolla tends to get way more of the faux-indie acts (you know, the ones that let people who are really into radio pop act like they aren't) than any other fest, including Coachella, while missing out on the more exciting/rare mid-level acts that fests like Coachella snag. Lately, it seems like Lolla's m.o. has been to get a few massive headliners, then go really light on the undercard with the types of acts that Meatball alluded to above. I haven't been impressed with a Lolla undercard in years. I agree with everything you said. I guess I wasn't clear in making my point. Both festivals sell out every year yet (in my opinion) both usually have a top tier lineup. I don't agree with the notion that promoters don't put effort into the lineup because they know the festival will sell out.

Man I thought Lolla's lineup last year was actually really good compared to Bonnaroo's. Definitely along the generic festival booking lines, but I think they managed to book solid acts.
Weeknd, Alt-J, Tame Impala, Alabama Shakes, ASAP, Brand New, TVOTR, Gary Clark, FlyLo, Hot Chip, War On Drugs, Father John, FKA Twigs, Tallest Man, Gogol Bordello, Chet Faker, DFA1979, Toro, Mick Jenkins, Peking Duk, Badbadnotgood.
They also had Halsey and The Chainsmokers, but they were appropriately placed on the lineup for a major festival.

That was just a solid year for festivals

I don't remember the headliners ever having this much space between each other on the Roo app's "most liked" rating. Currently Pearl Jam is #1, LCD is #13, and Dead&Co is #70. Of course, validity of ratings are undermined for me when I see Ellie Goulding at #2. Dead at 70 caches the eye especially on this lineup. Well I guess why would you want this lineup if you like Dead and co

I don't know if being that low on the app adds list means much considering that Dead & Co. is still within the top 10 of adds on the website.

If anything it is indicative of who is using the app. Ellie Goulding fans do their interneting from their phones. All the old fogey Dead Heads still sidle up to their desktop PCs and open up Netscape to see what's going on in the world.

That's what the big reveal is for the anniversary. There are no additions - just subtractions.
