I'm just finishing my first full listen through since I got cut short at work earlier today. The first half of the album isn't too bad; it lacks compared to Ye's prior stuff but for what it is - gospel with elements of hip-hop - it isn't horrible. But then as I'm listening it just takes a nosedive, starting with about "God Is". That was the point that I was like "Okay yea I can't really handle this anymore"...but I make my way through this track with Clipse, and it's nice to hear No Malice on a track again, but his verse doesn't blow me away or anything.
AND THEN THAT KENNY G SAX SOLO. God duhduh damn. I literally started laughing out loud. Thank goodness it was basically the last track. I'd be quite happy at this point if Kanye just takes a backseat and produces for artists he likes for the rest of his career. He can make pleasant tones and his beats are still good overall, but his rapping is de stinky pu-pu and his songwriting/composition just isn't even close to what it used to be. Stale lyrics and subject matter aside, these tracks just don't go anywhere. The dynamism of his previous stuff is just gone.

Listened twice. I think this was the best possible outcome once I knew it was a full blown gospel album. The beats are great for the most part. His rapping is fine enough. Kanye was never a great rapper so thats not what im here for.
Overall I don’t think I’ll be able to get over how overtly religious this album is. I’ve enjoyed plenty of religious songs throughout my life, but this is just so blunt that I’ll never be able to sink into it without getting distracted.
But again I think its pretty good. Like his last album Ye. Pretty good but we didn’t need it.

Ultralight Beam isn't, like, incredible, but it's quite good. Also, I think both Chance and Kanye have been spending their time since trying to recreate it to increasingly diminishing returns
ULB is an absolute top tier Kanye song but I still maintain that TLOP is a pretty mid album overall. It looks better now that he’s released two total stinkers but it’s still overrated.

TLOP has great high points for me, I think it's just diluted with some filler. Cut that album from 20 songs to maybe 12-14 and it's probably top 3 or 4 Kanye for me

That's what I ended up doing. I removed the middle of the album (Feedback through FML), threw in FourFiveSeconds and Only One, and then rearranged it a bit. So it's really more of a TLOP-era playlist of Kanye tracks, but it gets me to listen to the songs I like without having to skip around.

That's a good idea. I usually throw on Yeezus or MBDTF when I'm in a Kanye mood, but I will probably do something similar to you to get that TLOP fix
