The Which stage pit take away was not cool, having a VIP area selectively for the tents is confusing. I was allowed to bring in a 56oz liquor drink in every time but my gopro and unicorn were oddly denied when the tables showed up?! Overall I think they treated the VIPs shittier this year.

It was a mixed bag. The VIP access at tents is a Thursday and (kind of) Friday thing. They actually did the same thing last year. The space they have set aside for RLARS is way to big. I never saw it even close to full at any sets. The searches/security at the VIP entrance by the arch doesn't ever appear to be a problem for me. The What stage entrance for VIP is always a hot mess, why they can't set expectations appropriately and then consistently deliver is mind bending. just post a damn list of what is Ok and what isn't and actually enforce the posted policy. The food Thursday was worse than last year but at least you could get some if you were inclined. I was also a bit disappointed about them repeating the VIP band from 2010. I like Big Sam but I would prefer variety. On a positive note all of the things that are really valuable to me about VIP were still great. No wait for anything, clean (relatively) showers and bathrooms with AC, the ability to go back to camp between sets and miss almost nothing and plenty of space in the campgrounds. I think it's still worth the money but you certainly don't feel a very important person. I think they reserve that treatment for Guest, Artist and RLARS passes.

I definitely did not enjoy the pit area at the Which stage being taken away. Big thumbs down on that. Bag searches seemed ok at first but as time went on I felt hassled more and more about what was being brought in. I was happy that I actually got some food this year at the party Thursday night.
Whoa whoa whoa, they took the Which pit away??! Wasn't there this year but this could be a dealbreaker for next year for me. Is it back to only the bleachers at Which?

Huh?
There was definitely a HUGE VIP pit area at Which this year. Infact, they upgraded it this year, at the very front corner there was access to an additional small area right behind RLARS in the very middle. Typically it filled up pretty quick though.

I know there was a VIP area, but the pit that is directly in front of the stage was marked off for Roll Like A Rockstar people, unlike previous years.

I loved the fenced in VIP area at Which, and saw a ton of great shows from there. Fortunately, I never had an issue getting in there. As for the changes, I loved the fire art. There are two issues I plan on writing them about. For one, it seems like whenever I have to take a #2 in the campsite, I always encounter an up-to-20 minute line for the main men's facilities by the VIP lounge. That's unacceptable. I saw one older guy behind me dancing around and sweating and making strange noises. I'd have offered my spot in line, but I'd already been waiting 15 minutes and was in a somewhat dire spot myself. The situation was made worse by the condition of the men's facilities along the fence. A number of those toilets were closed down throughout the weekend. I don't understand why they can't bring in more bathrooms, possibly parking another row in different corner of the VIP campsite. Heck, a row of portos would be better than having to stand in line for a potentially long time in the morning or afternoon. Also, I don't understand why they can't engineer the showers so there isn't a growing swamp around the men's showers leading into the field. That doesn't seem like too difficult a fix. I saw so many guys get sprayed with mud AFTER walking out of the showers.

Not sure how that worked out for you, as I was on the inside rail of which pit - VIP- for the flips show. Sure, there was two additional areas in front for rlars and press but if you got there early enough there is still VIP pit access at which

So this was an area you would get to if you managed to be all the way in the front of the VIP viewing area? Did they clear it out after each show?

Yes and to be fair the entrance from VIP was quite narrow. I wanted to stick it out for kaskade but they cleared us out which was ultimately advantageous as it gave me a minute to scoop up my face after it melted off from the flips :-D

Thanks for the info. I definitely liked it better last year when we had access to what was essentially given to only RLAR this year.

I had friends get into tent pits all weekend but obviously I'm not pretty enough - was denied every time. It's a balancing act I suppose.

I didn't try what was the VIP pit last year until Sunday. It really bummed me out that the pit was gone. Also, I arrived to camp the same time I did last year and we were parked out in BFE, where as last year we were very close to the front bathrooms and showers. I guess it's just a crapshoot from year to year on where they will park you?

I wish they offered massage packages. I would have gotten more than one if they had done like a 3 massage discount. I know that might not be up to the organizers because they hire individuals to do that, but massages are so clutch for keeping you going.

They really need to put up another set of bathrooms on the other side of VIP camping. I keep getting camped on the total opposite side of the current location.

No, there was a VIP pit too. See my previous post.

I guess it's hard to understand through a message board sometimes, but I still feel like we are talking about different things. How did you get to this VIP pit? By walking through the VIP viewing area? Or did you go past the VIP viewing area and through the entrance on the side that said "Roll Like A Rockstar Entrance"?

If you walked through the VIP viewing area to the front left corner, there was a narrow entrance to the itty bitty "pit" which was directly behind RLARS.
I agree about needing bathrooms on the far side. We were set up way closer to the What entrance than the arch and the courtyard. I didn't realize until leaving on Monday that there was another set of bathrooms and showers on the back side against the road, but it was still on the arch side of VIP- almost to the RVs and a very short walk to the courtyard. They definitely should have moved those further down towards the What entrance side.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

You got it by walking through the viewing area, all the way to the front. Then there was a small, crescent shaped pit. I was there for Chromeo.

The RLARS pit area in the tents is just big enough for the evening and late night shows. Last year, every night, those pits are filled with not only RLARS patrons, but AC staff, CID, guests, artists, ect.
I don't think Capp Dog wants his space to be too cramped. Trust me, it's more so for them than it is for RLARS people sometimes- at least that's how it was last year.

This. There's just waaaaaaaay to many people that bought vip tickets to give them actual access in any of the tents. There were at least a couple thousand camping in the artist/guest campgrounds this year. Combine them with all the officiates and artists that aren't camping, and you have a sizable number of people. There were times that I had trouble getting into the pits at the tent, but I would imagine that if VIP had access too, then they just would have been packed for every single show. No bueno.

Its better to use all of the space than to leave some empty.
I'd like to see a reduction in guest/artist bands. At the Cinema tent some people with guest bands were sitting in the VIP rows, when they got full the staff actually booted them from the seats so that VIPs would have a place to sit.

I personally think it's lame that they reserve some rows of seats for VIP (they already get to cut the lines anyway and go in the exit door) but those seats are pretty clearly marked as "VIP Only" so when people walked up to them and sat down but then got booted I didn't feel toooo bad. Still lame though.
Yeah, they def need some bathrooms on the What side. Maybe just move the ones in the back a little more inward (although they had a busted pipe and were out of order later in the weekend). I liked having the Wifi in the main VIP tent. But they need more seating. All the bean bags they had are gone. And the charging people were pretty slow. Left my phone there for 2 hours and when I came back for it, it hadn't even gotten plugged in yet. Luckily I had a portable charger at camp and didn't bank on the charging station. I'm still holding out hope for a VIP spot in the tents, I find myself trying less and less to get close in a tent. If I have two bands, one I love in a tent, and one I just like a lot on Which, I will choose Which. Sometimes I feel bad complaining about VIP because the GA people have to use porta potties or walk far or have to fight through crowds the whole time at all stages...but then I remember how much I paid.
I liked the 'urinal-only portos' - pretty sure they were new this year; fast service for standers and they each freed up five sit-down portos for those that needed them.
Due to my pen!s, I did not experience the women-only portos at What, but all the ladies I spoke to loved them.
Edit: Oh wait, I just realized this thread was supposed to be about new stuff at VIP. Apologies (add something to the title for specificities' sake, maybe)

Thanks everyone for all the input on this. I guess that is better than no pit, but I think I liked the old way better.
