Given my location I've grown up almost exclusively on bourbon. So I'll admit I'm a noob when it comes to scotch, but I'm looking to try something a bit different. Anybody care to recommend some good skotches to start with?
Anything Johnnie Walker makes is fine with me.....just had Gold label over the holidays and is was fantastic....haven't had the pleasure of drinking Blue or Platinum yet.

Glenmorangie 10 year original is good stuff and will not hurt your wallet to badly. Also Triple Smoke from Corsair Artisan is not scotch per se but really similar you should be able to get that in Louisville.

Many varieties of many whiskys/whiskeys actually need water to elicit all the flavors present. Whiskey rocks are great, but you should also invest in a couple giant ice molds - spherical, which will basically fill the entirety of a rocks glass. Keeps the liquor cold, and it's such a large piece of ice that it melts slowly enough where you get juuuuust enough water.
Those make it your drink too cold (IMO) and are an enormous pain in the ass too make (fact).

What the hell are you talking about? You pour water through the top of the mold and then you let it freeze. Are you really having difficulties pouring water into a spherical silicone mold?
Yeah, then those bullshit molds stick together, or it sits in the freezer so long it sublimates and splits in half. But the real issue is that I really don't want my drink that cold. A small ice cube chills it a little, melts fairly quickly so you get a generally consistent drink, and comes out a automatic ice maker.
The Green label is very good as well and becoming harder and harder to find. There were rumors that they were discontinuing it, I'm not sure if that's still true. In any case it's certainly limited in production and is yummy.
They're discontinuing the green and gold labels. They're being replaced with gold label reserve and platinum label. This is just a way to fool consumers so they can raise the price. All of these are between 15-18 year old. I enjoy all of these even more than the blue label, although that's certainly good as well. I've never had the double black, I wonder if it's any good?
Haven't been around much Jess, this board is so full of teeny bopping trolls and semi-intellectuals regurgitating what they hear on the news I can't even find the music anymore, I've moved on to greener pastures except for the occasional browse. I think that was a nice Dalmore we were drinking. I'll bring another tasty bottle of something to Wanee this year. Maybe an Islay.
