I will be coming down from DC and last year took 81 to 640 to 40W and then took some back roads south to Manchester. Would it be faster to go 81 to 640 to 75 then head west on 24. There seems to be a debate on which is faster

how were the mountains past knoxville? Its too steep to take the bus through 'nooga and in the heat I run the risk of overheating the motor going that way.
we are planning to go to knoxville then east to sparta and on to manchester that way if the mountains are not bad.
I remeber there were some steep climbs that way. I think you basically are going to the top of the Cumberland Platoe(sp?) I know this because I kayak alot and that area has some very good steep creeks. I remeber climbing and then it evened out. When we left 40 to drive south towards Manchester it was like a slow slope down hill. My vehicle will have no problem with the climbs but if you are taking a bus I would really check with the locals down there to make sure you dont have problems
It doesn't matter if you come from Chattanooga or from Knoxville, you have mountains either way. From Knoxville the climb is not as steap as from Chattanooga and the trip from Knoxville to Sparta to Manchester is about a hour shorter then going to Chattanooga.
This from a Manchester resident that has Knoxville ties. Have a good time in our town. I will be sitting out in my back yard and listening to the music since this event is just down the road from me on New Bushy Branch Road.
Whats the best way from Spart to the KOA campground/Walmart. I want to avaiod 55 and come in the back way since I will be staying at the KOA. I left the show last year that way but dont remeber. We didnt go on the highway just out the back of the KOA and up some back roads to Sparta. Thanks
Well, you have to go 55 to Manchester. Shortest route However, I will tell you a way to get to KOA. It will be a little out of the way, but it is all in Manchester. On second thought you would be better to stay on 55 but do not get in the lane to turn into bonnaroo.
After you leave McMinnville, you will go through a hole-n-the wall town called Morrison. After Morrison is Summitville. Watch for the trooper that watches for speeders in Summitville. After Summitville, you will pass a golf course on the right; A subdivison with ritzy houses on the right (where our town docs live). It is pretty rural out here. Keep going and then about 3/4 mile is Jimmy's Market on the left; you will go aroung a curve to the right. You will pass Forrest Mill Baptist Church on the right. Keep going on 55. You will pass Manchester Chevy on the left and you are now coming to Bonnaroo traffic. Stay in the right lane. If it is backed up, turn right a the light on Interstate drive. Follow it to the end and turn left at the light. You are now on 53. Follow this highway to the next light. It is bout 2 to 3 miles. At the light, turn left on Highway 41. Follow highway 41 all the way through town. You will go through the intersection of 41 and 55. It is the largest intersection in town. When you go through it, you will see a Sonic, a Food Lion, a big Baptist church..keep going straight. You will pass a Bi-Lo on the right, a Arbies and you will see a Racetrack Gas Station on the left. There are 3 lights from this point. After you go across the interstate bridge, you will see a Holiday Inn on the left. Look carefully for the KOA road because it runs in front of the Holiday Inn and beside the Interstate.
Optional route: If you do not have to turn at Interstate Drive, go straight on 55 to the intersection of 55 and 41. You will need to turn left on to 41 and then follow the same directions above starting at the intersection of 41 and 55.
I could take you a dozen ways, but you still have to be on 41 to turn into the KOA. There is not another way except to stay on Interstate 24 and take exit 114 and turn left onto 41.
KOA is on the side of town that B is being held at. So pretty much all the back roads are tied up getting people in and out. I know. I live out here. What takes me 8 minutes to drive to work will now take me an hour to get home. I'm not complaining. I am glad the kids are enjoying themselves.

We took the Chattanooga way the last two years and I remember the climb that went on forever. I live in the highlands of south west Virginia but Im already up high and don't have to climb. Im thinking of doing the sparta way.
