Setting it up was so confusing. At first I downloaded the wrong software and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Then I got the right software but things still weren't working. I got to a point where I thought I'd need to do "port forwarding" and all other types of network stuff and I had no clue how all that stuff works. Then I read someone suggest turning off your windows firewall and turning it back on. I tried that and it worked, so I have no idea what happened but I'm glad I can stream stuff now.
Exact same experience! Only I was trying to get it to work with Roku. Once it's up and running though it is quite awesome.
I ordered one of those chromecast things the day it sold out, just got an email saying I would get mine on the 24th of October.. Damn amazon
Damn Google, actually, for underestimating the demand. They're sold out EVERYWHERE. I've seen them trade for roughly $100 on eBay. But Jesus: the 24th of October?
My buddy and I got ours so quickly because we were running an errand about an hour after Google made the initial product announcement, and we both whipped out with our smartphones and ordered one right then. Both of us got in during the free three-month Netflix promo.
I've been doing some research and I can't figure out who actually makes the thing...meaning, who owns the factory where the things are actually manufactured. I'd like to know who they are and whether they're publicly traded.

Same here. My estimated delivery date is (was) mid October / early November. I decided to cancel my order, and I'm going to buy either Apple TV or Roku; I can't wait to get rid of cable. I'll probably buy a chromecast once the demand dies down though. The portability is a nice feature.

Plus, by the time you get it there will likely be more options. I read some article that said different content providers were interested in getting involved. So Hulu and others may soon follow Netflix to the Chromecast game
EDIT: Also RoKu supports Plex Media Server which allows you to stream just about any kind of media (Video and Audio and it supports just about every file format including lossless audio like flac and shn) from your computer to your TV/entertainment system using your WiFi. Apple TV does not support it and I suspect they don't have anything comparable. So there's that too.
EDIT II: Derp! I guess I should actually read the whole articles I link to!
I know I'm not getting everything out of the Roku that I could but it's idiot proof which is a big selling point for me. My kids can navigate it in their sleep too.
Friend of mine is moving to rural western Mass. this weekend. Decided to skip getting cable TV from Comcast and instead got a Roku box to go with his Netflix streaming subscription.
