Free Solo was engaging throughout and the final ascent was clearly super intense to watch. The interpersonal drama of Honnold and those around him was well fleshed out and the movie did a good job of setting up the more important pitches in the run for the climactic solo.
Spoiler: he does not die. Still, that doesn't make you feel all that reassured when he does it for real.
Finally getting around to this after wanting to see it for pretty much my whole adult life, I just ran across the Criterion DVD for cheap so I had to get it.
Edit: Okay, so this was great. I always knew that PT Anderson owed a lot to Altman, but christ, I can't think of Magnolia the same after seeing this. Also, this is seriously one of the absolute best casts I've ever seen in a film.
