From Roo's facebook:
Who's setting off the punchline pyrotechnics in the Comedy Theater this year? Check out the lineup:
Aziz Ansari Steven Wright Marc Maron Brian Posehn Judah Freidlander Reggie Watts Rhys Darby Colin Hay Garfunkle & Oats Amy Schumer Pete Holmes Rory Scovel Mike O'Connell Ali Wong Kyle Kinane
Discuss all these people in here (or make your own thread for them Post photos, videos, stories, links, etc.
Great comedy lineup. Check out some of the lower tier acts as well.
I am really wowed by how great this lineup is. I really wish they'd double the size of the comedy tent because thousands are going to be shut out and/or stuck in line for hours just waiting to get a ticket. Aziz through Judah is an incredible list of names, but solid all the way to the bottom. Roo did an incredible job with the lineup, now let's pray one of these years they increase their comedy capacity to accommodate the size of the names they get.
I've seen Aziz and Maron but really want to catch them again. Wright and Posehn are really big for me. I hope I get to see half the names on here I like. So incredible.
Now, what's this about tix? I didn't see any comedy acts at my first (and only) Bonnaroo in 2006. You have to get separate tix to see the comedy acts?
This is Bonnaroo's explanation for 2010 that's pretty much how they still do it:
In order to prevent long wait times for entry, we will again be instituting a pass system this year for the Bonnaroo Comedy Theatre. Entry passes will be given out an hour before each show. Once you get a pass, you no longer have to wait in line and can return to the comedy tent prior to show time for entry. We will begin loading the tent following the prior performance or 25 mins before show time. 5 minutes prior to showtime, we will allow walk ups to load into the tent until capacity has been reached.
Sometimes if it's a highly anticipated act there will be a line that forms just to wait and get a ticket which can be annoying but the good news is once you have a ticket you're definitely going to get in.
What I do (and suggest) is I'll stop by the comedy tent first thing in the morning (if there's an act I want to see that day) and just ask the workers when they'll be handing out tickets for that specific show. It's easier when it's early and they aren't dealing with tons of people in lines and things are going on.
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.
I've wanted to see Colin Hay for a while now. It's weird that I'll have to go to the Comedy Tent and go through the whole wait in line, get a ticket, wait in a different line thing to do it. Still psyched.
Plus, Steven Wright? Holy crap!
Also, I've had a nerdcrush on Garfunkle and Oats for a minute or two and I'd totally dig seeing them.
I may spend a good deal of time in AC this year since I am not as out of my mind excited for many of the musical acts as I usually am.
"For the first time, the comedy portion of this year's festival is being produced in association with Comedy Central. More details on that partnership are to be announced in the coming weeks."

Aziz Ansari, Steven Wright, Brian Posehn, Judah Freidlander, Reggie Watts, Amy Schumer. I would try to see all of those if I didn't hate lines so much.

This is a double edged sword for me. If you like being UP CLOSE for the comedians, then this will take up about 3 hours of your time. First, you wait in line to get a ticket and then you form another line waiting to get in. If you don't mind being in the back, it is no problem. I wanted to see Zack G. up close and personal so I waited.
I used to go to a lot of the comedy but as the lines got longer, the wait time increased and the unwillingness to give up 2-3 bands worth of time to just wait to get up front stopped me. I may have to go back this year.

I usually try to go to at least one comedy show....sometimes 2. To me, it's usually worth a little bit of the wait for tickets and then I don't need to get up close and personal. I like sitting in the elevated seats of the comedy tent anyway.
I am overall pleased with the comedy. It's so big though and waiting in those huge lines unless there's something good I can catch on thursday night, I don't see me making most of it. I am just not willing to sacrifice a couple of the great music acts for a comedy one. I might try and see Aziz and Posehn. And it all just depends on how long the wait is and who I'm missing, which is always a clusterf*ck
I'm excited to see Brian Posehn again, he's hilarious! Since he's done skits with TOOL and Puscifer before, he might come out to be apart the the cabaret.
Maron did a taping of live WTF a couple years back at Bumbershoot. I'm thinking with him and so many comedian friends there, we might have a decent chance of getting a live WTF show in addition to his standup. That would be perfect for me. If you care about comedy at all then start listening to the WTF with Marc Maron podcast. He has interviewed a couple hundred comedians on there and it's considered to be the gold standard of comedy interview podcasts, not to mention just in general one of the greatest podcasts out there.
I would've swore that Comedy Central was doing some stuff there last year with the comedians, or that some of the stuff performed at Roo aired on CC. Maybe I'm imagining that though.
I have sat on the very top row directly back from the stage and still felt it was a great seat. It's so small and intimate in there that it's not that important to be up close. In general though I don't exert the time and energy to be front row or near front row for any show, so maybe that's just my personal preference speaking here.

No they definitely did. I don't know if they still have the videos on the site but they were broadcasting parts of shows.

Kind of disappointed by this. I've heard almost all of these jokes on his older specials. Hope he pulls out some new material for Bonnaroo.
Eh... It will just be good to see him. He was one of the first comics I really liked back in the 80's. Nostalgia act? Possibly, but he'll have a packed tent and there will be laughter.
