that said, i think it is lacking in latenight EDM.
i am very surprised roo isnt sold out.
I think this says it all.
I made the point awhile back. I Think latenight EDM is what appeals most to the 18-24 year old demographic that makes up the majority of festival goers. At least in this region of the U.S.
Put Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, and Girl Talk on the same lineup, and your fest should sell out.
I make this assumption based purely off of the festival goers I know personally IRL who aren't going to Bonnaroo because they don't think there is good EDM this year.
I'll second this. Part of me is disappointed because I want those big name EDM shows, but the other part of me is kind of relieved that we'll probably get a more mature crowd this year that actually goes to appreciate good music instead of party.
It scares me that i'm saying this as i'm not even 25 yet but I already feel oldness creeping in...
I think rolling out so many big names late is hurting Bonnaroo. People look at initial lineups and decide if they want to go. The initial lineup had 3 big headliners, but they're all on extensive tours this summer. There was a great undercard but they were weak in the Sub-HL area. I think having GZA, Rod and Gab and even Kenny Rodgers in the initial lineup would have really helped their buzz.
Personally, if it wasn't for the fact I just really wanted to go to Bonnaroo this year practically irregardless of lineup, I could have seen basically every band on the initial lineup in my hometown, probably for a similar price of what tickets and travel to Roo will cost.
well technically it's helping if it's convincing more people to go. what's hurting is that they put a few new names on the website and don't announce it right away. every day they don't reveal it is another day they can't sell more tickets. unless you're coming from a coolness perception standpoint where people think bonnaroo looks desperate and is struggling to remain relevant
Its scary to think that Bassnectar, Pretty lights and Girl Talk are what the 18-24 year old demographic considers GOOD EDM.
With SBTRKT, Flying Lotus, Big Gigantic, and Major Lazer, I am not sure how someone could consider that a weak EDM line-up. That's pretty damn strong IMO although I guess they are not strictly EDM in the conventional sense.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

Those acts were possibly still in negotiations and weren't on the initial lineup because nothing was official yet.

Im not too sure why you quoted me on that comment?

It may be EDM, but it's not the dubstep EDM that has seeped into the mainstream. I love SBTRKT and FlyLo, but they aren't even the same type of music/scene as Bassnectar and Pretty Lights. The similarities end at them all being electronic music.
What you're trying to say is that this year's EDM is strong because it suits your EDM preference...but many people don't like the type of EDM that Roo is offering this year.
Last year's EDM is miles apart from this year's. You're catering to one crowd while neglecting another. Most people on this board are happy about that, as it appears that for some reason people hate dubstep here.

To start off with, there are plenty of dubstep fans on the board.
Also, people have different musical preferences. Just because you think something is great doesn't mean that everyone else must.

The Dirty Guv'nahs just posted on facebook that they have an exciting announcement for tomorrow. At least, I am thinking that the additions will become official tomorrow.

I think youre mis-understanding what I was trying to say. I have no problem with the EDM on this years line-up, but I dont think Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and Girl Talk are the answer to solidifying a "strong" EDM lineup.
I grew up listening and seeing some of the best Drum and Bass, House, Techno djs on the planet. I have no problem with dub-step. The EDM scene has grown so much and there are so many GOOD djs out there that dont get the recognition they deserve because they arent "the grammy award winning Skrillex" type. With that being said I am perfectly happy with what we have thus far for EDM....would it make me happy if they added a few acts like Dirtyphonics, etc and a few oldies like DJ Marky, Andy C, DJ Hype to name a few...of course it would. At the end of the day....for EDM...Europe does it right!

I think that goes without saying though....
To your point that there are plenty of dubstep fans on this board, i'd argue that. There is a huge thread for crying out loud petitioning to keep Bassnectar, PL, etc off the farm next year. Of course, i'm not an idiot, I realize there are people like Phi who do like dubstep...my point is that they're the minority. If you come on this board and say positive things about Bassnectar, PL, Skrillex, etc; you're going to get ridiculed. Hell I lost 7 awesome points in the Skrillex thread simply for defending the dubstep scene. I'm not complaining because I couldn't give two f*cks about a rep on a message board, but it does go to show the general attitude on this board. And on the flipside, start talking about how much you think FlyLo sucks and see how this board reacts to it.
As to your second point...that was exactly what I was saying in the first place...?
I think were both on the same page. The thing that people are getting tired of is seeing the "same old" dubstep djs representing a scene that has much more to it than what you see with Skrillex, etc. How many times has girl talk and pretty lights been at roo in the past 4 years? Lets switch it up...Isnt Roo about exploring "new music"???
Anyways, I hope Skrillex breaks a nail on his mac book and has to be re-slotted with someone enjoyable.

I was just going off your "I don't see how anyone could consider this a weak lineup" statement. My point was that this year has a different breed of EDM and it would be easy to understand why many people would consider it weak, if this breed wasn't their thing. I for one am pumped about the EDM this year, but I know a lot of people who aren't because it isn't the PL/Bassnectar flavor that they like.
Different strokes, different folks. I think we both agree, just misunderstood each other.

It isn't the dubstep that bothers me. I'll be at Skrillex - why not? Hot, spun, college chicks dancing all around me? Yes please. Besides, the sound bleed from all that bass is going to ruin anything else in the vicinity.
I guess my point is: after a certain hour, and after the right mindset is achieved, people want to dance. And that's just not going to happen at FlyLo.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Solar stage still exists (although I may be thinking of the Sonic Stage) but unfortunately the Lunar Stage does not.

Give me some house music, please.
Do they still have the Solar/Lunar stage?
People arent goin to dance to FlyLo? Are you kidding me? Im gonna be grooving my fcking ass off. A lot of other people will be too
And if you want house music go to the silent disco, or an EDM festival. Dubstep had it's few years at roo, and they sill have Skrillex this year. Let us have FlyLo and sbtrkt

The issue with this is the majority of people (casual music fans) looking for an EDM act to dance to FlyLo and SBTRKT aren't very accesible. They don't make the instantly dance-floor ready stuff like Major Lazer, Kaskade, Tiesto, etc.
I love listening to SBTRKT when I'm just chillin out playing video games or something, its awesome music to just relax to. Not sure how it'll translate in a live setting but I'm intersted to see if it'll be more up-tempo. FlyLo, I respect, I just cannot get into it for the life of me. Alot of it is very repetitive and down tempo.

This makes no sense either. Are we talking about the same people?
