When you need a night off to relax, to get your mind off of things.. what do you do?
I love going to a local BYOB Thai place. I bring my Kindle and a bottle of wine. I spend an hour reading, drinking and eating, and then have an $11.68 check. I feel like I am doing something awesome and fun, but yet I get to relax and be anti-social.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I put the water on as hot as it will go and fill the tub. Take whatever book I'm reading, a cup of coffee, my phone, and a ciggerette. About 10 minutes into the bath I fall asleep for some amount of time and wake up when the water is cold. It's really relaxing.
Captain and Quacker, close as i get in this hemisphere. Roo with 'the family' put a damper on that but the tradition returns soon-ish.
Twelve days, island in the west indies, 10 steps to the turquoise water, falling asleep listening to the waves by night, books, bevies, sun basking, swimming, and snorkeling. Throw in a hot tub and ZZZZZzzzzzzz. Repeat yearly.
Wait...was that supposed to be relaxing? But we had too much fun to relax!
I'm amazed at how many of y'all pursue SOLITARY activities to unwind. It's the same for me: a nice quiet evening of a tasty adult beverage or four, possibly a hot bubble bath & a book, then I assume the position (the solo horizontal!) and go into hibernation mode.

edit: just realized it said when you have a NIGHT off. i still do headstands around the house when feeling stressed (& yoga in general) but nothing beats listening to some good music with some good brew or corn though
but does depend on weather a lot... it's always more relaxing to be outside for me, no matter the time of day.

Shutting down the signal path to my brain in a Sensory Deprivation Tank. It removes Adrenalin and Lactic Acid from the blood stream. The relaxation comes fr4om the rebooting of the brain!

^^ duh...I see that the original posting spoke of "night" relaxation.
OK, then, if it is summer, float on my back in the pool with tunes in background. Or sit in a bubble bath. Or look at stars. If winter/bad weather: read, write, watch movie, make something.

I actually relax by going to work delivering pizza. Compared to how I spend my free time, it's a breeze.
My free time since last Bonnaroo has been consumed by phone banks, canvasses, volunteer training, campaign field offices & staging locations, rallies, political organizations & events, collecting my share of a million signatures, too damn much email, software training, toying with a website, keeping up with news, my first attempt at event planning, getting registered to register voters, and all that jazz. I wound up getting involved with the single mother of a kindergartener son along the way. My free time is hectic. I gotearned my first grey hair since Recall Walker petitions began.
So when I deliver pizza, it has a bit of a meditative value. I get some brief time away from the rest of that stuff. Nobody to deal with, free to be alone with my mind for a while, my choice of listening material without restrictions, maybe nom a tiny bit, watch some TV during idle time... it's actually the easiest part of my days these days.
My life certainly ain't what it used to be compared to a year ago.
Its funny, the more I think about it, the more I realize that my relaxation methods depend upon the weather. In the cold months, for me, there is nothing more relaxing than snowboarding the day/night away with my iPod on. Carving HUGE turns from trail end to trail end without a care in the world.
In the warmer weather I relax by hiking in the woods or by going on really long bike rides.
If the weather isn't great, or I'm just not up to being active, I tend make a cup of coffee, put on comfy clothes, and lay in bed with my laptop. I put on some good tunes and browse the interwebs.
To answer the question, I never relax. I just hit a lower level of anxious. The best I can do is to zone out on something, i.e. a movie, but I wouldn't call it relaxing.
^^^^im with him - relax?? Rarely - for me it's just a lower level of stress. I guess the only real time would be at roo but even then I'm stressing because I'm away from the kids (or like last year -stressing because one of my kids is there AT roo)
I'd say a nice hot bubble bath but they always get interrupted by one of the kids. I think the most relaxation I've had lately (and this sounds strange) had been doing animal cruelty investigations with Boz
