I like the point system just because its harder to nail all the headliners than a bunch of buzz bands that are going to be playing most all major festivals. But I'll go along with the group.
We generally have some confirmations from board members talking to bands, random articles, tweets, and interviews by November or earlier. Case and point we new Gogol in October last year.
Ok, so if one or two bands get confirmed early then we just don't count them. At some point there has to be a deadline but October is probably a little early to shut it down.
Wasn't the deal last year that leaks are leaks and thats the end of it? I mean, no matter what the source, insider included, we don't KNOW that a band is on the lineup till the lineup is released, so heavy rumors and "lineup leaks" should really have any bearing on this contest, in my opinion. And I think thats the way we did it last year?

Yea, I don't think leaks should have an effect on the contest. That's a benefit of being able to amend your list. Nothing is official until the lineup drop, as we learned this year (Black Star).

Yeah that's how I remember it as well. I think the cut off was the end of November.

Headliners: RHCP, Muse, Furthur.
The rest, in no real order: 4 Disco Biscuits 5 Portugal. the Man 6 YACHT 7 The Antlers 8 OFWGKTA 9 EOTO 10 Amon Tobin 11 Animal Collective 12 The Naked + Famous 13 Umphrey's McGee 14 Broken Social Scene 15 Flying Lotus 16 TV on the Radio 17 Battles 18 Donna the Buffalo 19 Florence + the Machine 20 Neon Indian 21 Young the Giant 22 Skrillex 23 Little Dragon 24 Ghost Observatory 25 Crystal Castles 26 M83 27 SBTRKT 28 Passion Pit 29 Olivia Tremor Control 30 Architecture in Helsinki 31 The Pixies 32 Crystal Castles 33 Shpongle (with band) 34 Justice 35 Lotus 36 Santigold 37 Foster the People 38 The Felice Brothers 39 Titus Andronicus 40 Big Gigantic 41 Railroad Earth 42 Karl Denson's Tiny Universe 43 Beats Antique 44 Incubus 45 J. Cole 46 Two Fresh 47 BRAIDS 48 Local Natives 49 The Royal Bangs 50 The Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group
We can make the cut off the end of November, that makes sense. Sorry I haven't been around in a week, we had a huge pit pig roast and then school started again.
Last year we did this and it was awesome, and I think having 25 bands really helped. 50 is just such a big number so it's way easier to just guess a bunch of random buzzbands. I really think that doing 25 again would be ideal. Last year I remember obsessively reading lists, and I've already skipped past the first few in this thread just cause they're so huge.
Also, our deadline last year was right around Thanksgiving. That worked pretty well too, because the amount of artists we find out in between then and December 31st is huge. It'd make the game a lot less fun if 20 acts on every list are identical.
So I throw my hat in a 25 act, deadline around Thanksgiving ring. I think it would run smoother as such, but I'll end up doing it regardless.
I personally like the idea of having the deadline later, and having it 50 bands.
Why 50: SOme people will really research and find a bunch of smaller bands that will be on the bill, while others (like myself) will be taking a bunch of shots in the dark (and I will not deserve to win - but Im going to play, and donate anyways). The tickets should go to someone who deserves them. Just my thought.
On the later deadline: again, it increases the advantage that the people who really do their homework will have. If there are leaks or confirmations on random sites (like band sites etc) the people who dig will find them, and the people who dont - won't.
Im in no matter what, just my .02 (and Im going to be posting a lot to get to my 200 haha)
Last year some golden soul made an email and kept track of all the lists. Then the night before the deadline he posted them all. Does anyone remember who did that?

the problem of the later deadline and the theory about the people 'digging' is that the only digging you need to do is visit this site. people post stuff as soon as it comes out. so essentially you will have everybody with the same 15 or so acts that have been found, and it comes down to a contest of who guesses the best 10 remaining spots(or however many spots we do)

Round 1: 25 bands - including 3 headliners Deadline: November 24th (midnight)
Round 2: 25 bands Deadline: December 31st (midnight)
After the first deadline no changes can be made. What means that the first 25 bands are a real prediction without knowing anything. The next 25 bands can be predicted more closely to 2012, as it's still too early for real confirmations, there might be a few heavy rumors or self-confirmations.
Bands guessed for in Round 1 count for double points, Round 2 just single points. Headliners (round 1) count for 5 points each.
I would like to enter the contest but do not post enough to reach 200 by the deadline. Is it still ok to enter or is the 200 post minimum set in stone?
