"Guns N' Roses has influenced many modern rock bands such as Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Mother Love Bone, Buckcherry, Hinder, Manic Street Preachers, Nickelback, Bullet for My Valentine, Fozzy, The Strokes, Sum 41, and Black Label Society."

I'm kinda shocked to see Arcade Fire at #500. I feel like Funeral is tailor-made for Rolling Stone to point to as their indie cred. Or at least it was at one point.
Also lol at The White Stripes being the 400s. They must have heard Jack talking shit.
Dbt live at the 40 watt in 2004, dirty south release party. I was at these shows. Second song is "Tornados", which is a song I've long been obsessed with mainly because of the hauntingly gorgeous vocal harmonizing in the last few lines of the song.
Watching it live again for the first time I'm realizing it was Isbell who was responsible for those harmonies. Of course.
Anyway it's a great raw live recording of a band at the peak of their powers, and Isbell likely approaching the point in his life where he lost his mind.
Obviously I love all kinds of music, but I'll always have a soft spot for rock n roll, warts and all.

I got into Isbell well after knowing he was an early member of DBT's and while I've enjoyed the DBT's in what i've seen or listened to I recently started to dive into their discography from the beginning. I know I dig Patterson Hood and love Isbell so am excited to get to his years.
I take it Isbell was drinking during this time? Since I've started listening to him the past few years I believe he's been mostly sober.

So I ordered some used books on Ebay in this "buy $20 and get an extra 25% off" sale. One was Ann Leckie's last book. I payed like 4 dollars for it. Got it today. It's first edition and signed. LMAO. None of this was in the description. Not sure if it was an error or not? She's a newer writer but has already won Hugos and shit. This will likely be worth a little something one day.

yeah i'm not sure of the exact timeline regarding Isbell's sobriety, but I know Southeastern was his first sober record.
Excited for you to explore the Truckers' catalog. Let me know what you think of the "golden era" records: Southern Rock Opera > Decoration Day > Dirty South (the latter two being Isbell records). While I do think Isbell has proven himself to be the best songwriter out of Isbell/Hood/Cooley, Hood and Cooley are also fantastic songwriters.

if you want to make sure you get all the way to the beginning, you also need to check out Adam's house cat -town burned down. It's a "lost" album from a couple years ago of tunes from Hood and Cooley's pre-DBT band.
They also were the backing band for Booker T's Potato Hole (and played with him at roo '09), and most recently Jerry Joseph on the album he put out last month.

I'll likely dig into that at some point. I know a handful of albums in the middle of their discography from listening to them to prepare for festivals but I haven't given them the full "actively listening" treatment that I like to do. I always love to see the "before the band" bands. One of my favorite acts The Felice Brothers have a pretty great earlier release called The Big Empty/Lost tapes or something and it's great. You can see how the early days morphed into the later years.
75 yr old guy I work with says to me out of the blue. Tonight is one of those nights I wanna go out to the bar and beat someone up. I haven't done that in like 30 years.

An article popped up yesterday about Ashley Capps asking that we please listen to healthcare professionals and scientists in handling reopening, and it had a gallery of photos of him over time. I have no idea why I clicked on that, but right in the middle of the gallery was a picture of Ashley and some other folks at some sort of function, and two of the people in it were my former boss and his husband. They apparently go to cool shit though. A couple years back, there were a bunch of pictures of them with Dale Dickey.
I found the story of the 5 grey African Parrots that had to be separated in England for swearing to be funny as shit. Apparently they were from 5 different owners but kept together initially. They taught each other swear words and laughter where they'd apparently just cuss and laugh afterwards. As someone who frequently eggs on parrots and cockatoos and Macaws that I encounter, this shit cracks me up.
Unfortunately all "videos" are stupid people narrating the story. Squawkfuckyou.

I wonder if the Roo planners are considering Roo masks to replace bandanas & throwing some hand sanitizer in the Roo swag for 2021? Maybe infuse the hand sanitizer with a mix of glitter and Gold Bond to make it multifunctional.

[answers landline] It's my one day a week I have to actually leave my house. I'm the only one in the lab, and you're damn right I'm the one blasting blues traveler on the speaker I brought from home, building security.

I'm sure they appreciated your directness instead of, you know, givin' em the run around.

I know I never post in this thread any more but I’m getting kids back in person at school on Monday, so please say a prayer to the floating baby in the sky that I don’t go off the rails from overwork and/or get covid and die.
