Eh, if you don't like that you probably won't like his live set then, he leans pretty heavily on that. His early ep stuff, like CMYK, is a lot more uptempo and features dance tracks instead of the Joni Mitchell typer stuff that's on the album though.
This. I think it is appropriate to start the debate, IF James Blake plays, Where? When? I think he would be perfect for Thursday night against something big(ger).
I'm still trying to "get" this dude, but it's taking forever. I listened to all the stuff I have of his (the album and assorted LPs) last night, and while it was pleasant enough as background, it never grabbed me.
Of course, it took me about 4 months of listening before I finally realized how good the new Bon Iver was, so who the f*ck knows.
Try listening to him with headphones... or just good speakers with subwoofers. I can't listen to a lot of his stuff on computer speakers because it just doesn't sound right (that song with Bon Iver is a perfect example, it's 1000x better with headphones)
I usually hate the "listen with headphones" argument but he's got so much subtle bass stuff going on that if you're listening to him on bad or mediocre speakers you're probably not hearing all that there is to be heard.
Feel like it would be perfect if James Blake got a slot like Dam Funk's in 2011; latest slot on Thursday with nothing really going on at the other tents.
I'd love if his slot became a permanent thing where one act played a late night show in a tent, but I think that was more just a way for them to throw Childish Gambino on the schedule at the last minute.
