I am pretty sure he has said in a interview he does not play festivals because of his ongoing sobriety and he likes to do his shows in a controlled environment. I saw him in 08, and it was an really amazing live show.

When Waits last played Dallas it wasn't at a seated venue, it was at The Palladium Ballroom. Unfortunately I did not get to go. I really would not want to see him in a seated venue. I want to be in the pit, dancing like a mad gypsy and singing every word to every song. Kind of like when I'm drunk at home at 3 in the morning and put his music on.
I reeeeeeeeeeeally really really want to see Waits.
I fear I'll never see him. Anywhere
^^this.
I'll be able to live with it if I never get to see David Bowie, or Prince, or the Stones... but if I never get to see Tom Waits live, I'll be devastated. I've adored everything about that man's work ever since I first heard "Tom Traubert's Blues" when I was nine years old.
I agree with those who say we'll never get to see him at Roo, but I know it would be a show people would talk about for many, many years afterwards.

Yeah, I fear I blew my opportunity to see him. I found out he was playing Asheville the day the tickets went on sale. I spent one hour discussing it with my friend and by the time we decided the $70 tickets were worth it, they were sold out. Sad, sad day.
I would be ecstatic if he played roo' but I have to agree, it's not gonna happen.
Not even going to take the time to read over this. All I have to say is NOT HAPPENING; even though I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE for it to. I've been raised listening to Tom Waits, man's a genius no doubt. I just don't see him down to do it. He seems pretty self conscious about being a "sell out" which he may possibly see himself if he were to play Roo.
