Remember when 100 gecs had magicians open for them? More bands should do that.
I've always enjoyed the left of center opener picks: comedian for St. Vincent (Anal Ally?), opera-comedy for Sleater-Kinney, amateur wrestling for Puscifer.
I didn't see 100 Gecs though. Wish I had and would totally take more magicians over bands I don't like or care for.
I saw the White Stripes open for the Strokes at Radio City Music Hall in 2002 and Jack & Meg made the headliners look stupid by comparison.
Then again, IMO, the Strokes don't need a ton of help in that regard. HEYO
I was at this show and don't disagree with this assessment but I also saw a lot of Strokes shows around this time period and Julian was totally bombed during 90% of them.

The Strokes are one of the most boring live bands out there and the fact that they continue to sell out huge venues/headline large festivals (presumably for a lot of money) won't really encourage to step it up in any way.
Somehow got tickets to see Jack at the Lodge Room tomorrow!!! Also, I was shocked at how reasonable prices were for Kylie Minogue at ex-Staples; grabbed 208 looking straight at the stage for $99 ($125 after fees).

not a real derp rock tour if they don't play the FL panhandle or MS gulf coast smh.
Good on Khruangbin for bringing them along, but why on Earth would anyone want an opening act whose live performances are so incendiary that your own set will pale in comparison?
TVOTR is one of my favorite bands, but having just seen Khruangbin last month, their live show is pretty fantastic. It’ll be a vibe shift, but I think it’ll be ok for the headliners.
If people want to cool down after the intensity of TVOTR, it could work. After the best of six Hozier shows I've seen, at Boston Calling in 2019, a set I connected with so strongly that I felt my blood pressure skyrocketing, I really enjoyed Tame Impala afterwards, functioning as relaxing chaser full of colorful sounds and lights.

Glad I saw them when I did, in 2012. Consistently amazing visual presentation (IYKYK), and at that stage of their career, they had so much strong material from which to build a killer greatest hits set. The more they've leaned into pop in recent years, the less interested I've been, and I hated the two songs they performed on SNL.

I saw the English Beat on the tour following the release of their best album, Special Beat Service, at the University of Rochester in 1983. Loved that album and their set was fine, but it paled in comparison to the opener. IRS Records used their artists' tours as showcases for their newer bands in opening sets, and a band which had just released their debut album on IRS the previous day opened the show.
(I'd swear that the person who posted the setlist got it wrong, because I'm 95% sure that they opened with Catapult. I have a vivid memory of the band coming out, Mike playing the opening bassline, and Peter, Michael, and Mike all leaping towards the front of the stage as the intro turned into the first verse.)

I saw them on the X&Y tour, and I really enjoyed it. I liked the Viva La Vida album well enough, but I really haven’t liked anything they’ve done since. I’m sure they still put on a great show, but I’m also sure they play a lot of songs that I have zero interest in hearing.
