One of my favorite forms of EDM, I wanted to dedicate a thread to dubstep for other like minded enthusiasts. A thread where people can discuss shows, DJs they like, and maybe a discussion of local scenes and venues in their respective cities (I'm from Baltimore/DC area, so this place has a great scene) If I anybody knows a good rave, please post regardless of the type of music!
If you all could, I also would like a little help from Inforoo in suggesting dubstep djs that are multi-faceted (ie different genres of EDM and such) to not only educate critics that says dubstep is "all the same and never changes". But, more importantly, I am planning to invest in some music software first; and gear in the near future. I've been wanting to create music for some time now and multi-genre DJs is what I want from my sound, easier said than done of course . I have provided some examples below to give you all an idea. If y'all could help a brother out, I'd be very thankful and give you a Friday (if you care for that) Have fun on this thread everybody.

Im not ragging on Dubstep music but it is in all reality "the same" and that wont change because of what makes the music sound like it does, all dubstep songs are in roughly the same ball park as far as BPM goes and the reason DUBstep songs sound alike is becuase when the beat and bass "drop" that drum track is always exactly half tempo to the original BPM and thats what gives it that distinct sound that makes you wanna move your body like a wave. I know how i worded it i probably sound like a asshole critic but i am again not trying to rain on anyones parade i just want to point out why all the songs have that DUBsteppy feel to them.
Good gawd editing your post on this site sucks! Anyhow, hopefully a fresh post will work.
Ah a Baltimorian!! I am from nearby in MD EDM in baltimore is getting huge! DC is on its way up with deeper dubs. Bourbon Street in Baltimore has a lot of events (Massives, Dub Nation) with more brostep-y artists.
The underground rave scene in MD is actually quite wonderful and the people are amazing! I got into the scene about a year ago and fell immediately in love. A lot of local DJs pump out some great edm music as well.
A lot of people "don't get" dubstep. I'm not quite sure how I came to understand or love it (okay, maybe the first time I listened to it while intoxicated it clicked ), but it's damn near an addiction.
I would add some songs, but after twenty minutes of trying to get it to work I'm giving up.

Not a Baltimorian per say, but I do love spending time up there. Fells Point is a great place to party it up. I definitely agree the scene in the area is top notch. We not only have Starscape but I remember the days of HFStival at RFK in DC in the early 2000s, when we had the Trancemissions or later known Buzz Tent. As a casual fan, that was my first exposure of electronica live and I immediately was diggin it. (Dieselboy, Josh Wink, Sandra Collins, Deep Dish) I wish I was able to take advantage of the legendary nights at Nation in D.C but I was a little too young and not that deep in the scene to roll over to that sketchy part of town with friends. Sucks it got raided. The whole music during that time is still my favorite in electronica and nothing comes close as far as "rave" music goes.
I started going to these Massives in Baltimore about two years ago and although they are fun and have resurged my interest in EDM, they are not quite the same because Bourbon Street Ballroom is more of a concert hall so it takes away from the atmosphere IMO.The local talent is pretty good. My favorites are Smash Gordon(he mixes well) and Segway(for those Lotus-like jams. Was there for the CD release party)
Like I said, I like dubstep because of its beat influences and it has definitely boosted the clubs but I'm definitely keen on knowing the underground scene Sounds like it's great to be part of, so if you could PM me about some details. That would be awesome. If you are wondering how to upload music, just get a youtube clip and make sure the address of the clip are in between the brackets, no spaces between the address and the bracket, and also make sure no part of the bracket is deleted. Hope that helped

I'm paraphrasing of course. But if you are using the BPM argument. House, trance, drum 'n' bass all have certain BPM that are specific their genre. It's one of the classifications used to distinct sub-genres.
I respect the opinion of the article but I could have done without the sniveling elitist attitude. Calling everybody that are fans as those wanting "to get fucked" up, and that they are vapid empty people is offensive and a bad generalization. That's like me saying all fans of jam bands are "burned out hippies". Or that all rap fans are "thugs".
Most of the people I meet at these events are generally safe, responsible, and do not harm anybody. There are some bingers out there but they are exceptions to the rule like Bonnaroo IMO
As far as the music being "faceless" that all is personal taste, but there is alot of saturated crap out there as with any type of music. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to start this thread. See what kind of fresh and good DJs are around to move this forward because I like the direction dubstep has gone since its roots.
We lucked out here in Jackson, Mississippi and actually got to see MiMosa - it was a good set right before some stuff like Big Krit and Wiz Khalifa - kinda funny to watch how the crowd changed out and it was an outside show in 37 degrees but it was worth the cold toes and fingers.

So yesterday I went to see Boregore. This was my first all ages dubstep show I've ever been to. It was really really weird. I swear I was the oldest one there. The crowd was filled with 12-16 year old kids. And the girls were... inappropriately dressed for their age. Now let me say I've always considered myself liberal when it comes to this stuff. I'll defend my little cousins when my aunt or uncle tells them they can't wear makeup or wear certain clothes... But this was just to a new extreme. I felt like I was at some kind of a pedo burlesque, no kidding here. And it's a little disconcerting to see a 12-13 year old girl wearing a halter top that says "nympho" on it Not to mention a good portion of them were clearly on X.
I love dubstep. And boregore had an awesome fucking show last night, no question at all. But this scene just got way too ridiculous. Seriously

I love electronic music (dubstep included) but I don't know really where any of it is around here. I've been out of the scene for about 7-8 years and I wonder if it's even around or if I'm too old : /

Wow, laggy. That's disturbing. Are parents really that clueless?

I saw a mini-van full of girls get dropped off by their mom, only to undress out of all their outer clothes and go in wearing their skimpy dresses they had on underneath.. Some of these kids seem to have no parental guidance though
And I'm not so sure it's like this all over the country, maybe it's a south FL thing? I've heard the all ages raves here get pretty bad.. I've been to a handful of those though, and I've never seen anything quite like this.

Ya, I did that too.
My daughter never got away with it, or much of anything else. I was to hip to all the tricks, much to her dismay.

Very cool that you were willing to stay in 37 degree to see Mimosa play, respect for your dedication.

I can understand why it left a bad taste in your mouth. I get up in arms when I see a 15 year old wear booty shorts with suggestive words on the back. Let alone a 12 year old going to a Borgore show with the words nympho on her top.
The shows i've been to in Baltimore and DC, I've never seen somethin like that. It's mostly college aged to the shows I've gone to. Young crowd, but not what you were suggesting. Hopefully, that was an isolated incident and it's not indicative to what the scene is like in Florida.
Seriously, if i had a young daughter enjoying this song. I would do everything in my power to prevent her from being a whore.

Borgore attracts the slutty female crowd. Have you ever seen his FB fan page? He loves being a man whore and takes pictures of it Good music, great live though!!

Gotta say though.. South FL is a good place to be a dubstep fan It's becoming pretty popular down here. It's moved out of the small clubs and into small to midsize venues (House of Blues sized places) We have a dubstep monthly now at the Filmore which has brought in Boregore, Datsik, etc.
This month we're getting Nero and Feed Me in Ft lauderdale, and 12th Planet in miami.

You say Borgore attracts the slutty female crowd and that you have seen him live. You made this burn too easy for me.

Very cool, being in Florida must be fuckin awesome for anybody into electronic. I wouldn't say Baltimore/DC is up there with them but it's done a great job of trying to stack up with Miami, New York, and LA. For instance,DC is getting a Basscenter this fall which is pretty awesome.
I'll be checking out Nero at Identity Festival this August. Definitely interested to see their brand of dubstep live, diggin the multi-genre feel they got.
