I need to watch "The Wire" maybe they will have a marathon in the Cinema Tent.
At 5 seasons, that would take like half of Roo if it was shown 24 hours a day. That being said, it would create a conflict for me for the entire time it was on.
Simple solution.
The cinema tent stays as it is.
We just create a NEW tent. It'll be "The Wire Tent" where the show will continuously play for 24 hours and there will be guest speakers.
Alright so "At Least ONE of Radiohead/RHCP/Foo Fighters/Beach Boys" has been determined. We get RHCP and Foo Fighters is a no go, just because of the similarity of the two bands.
That still leaves pretty good odds for Radiohead OR Beach Boys at least. Seriously, if the top 3 are RHCP/Phish/Killers the undercard will have to be staaaacked for me not to consider skipping this year.
I wouldn't rule out Foo Fighters just because we're pretty sure about RHCP.
That's not what I'm saying at all. Personally, I would love to see Neil back in any form, and I'm sure most of the people that post on here would. But people like us here on Inforoo aren't in the majority of those who go to Bonnaroo, who tend to be more casual fans of music. The selling point is the biggest names, and I think if those casual music fans that make up the majority had a chance to see Neil Young and the Black Keys again versus whatever Coachella, Lolla, ACL or some other festival puts out, they're gonna go with another festival because they want to see something different.
Top 6 from previous 6 years:
2011 - Eminem, Arcade Fire, Panic, Black Keys, Buffalo Springfield, My Morning Jacket
2010 - DMB, Kings of Leon, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Tenacious D, Weezer
2009 - The Boss, Phish, Beastie Boys, NIN, David Byrne, Wilco
2008 - Pearl Jam, Metallica, Jack Johnson, Panic, Kanye, Robert Plant (not counting Chris Rock who came before Plant)
2007 - Police, Tool, Panic, White Stripes, Ben Harper, Wilco
2006 - Radiohead, Tom Petty, Phil Lesh, Elvis Costello, Beck, Oysterhead
The only ones that repeat are Panic and Wilco. Again, because Panic is a jamband, that's a different scenario than someone more mainstream or classic. My thoughts as to why they book a jamband on Sunday night is, not just because a noticeable amount of people have started leaving by that time and just aren't into those kinds of bands, but I think they might do it also to start getting people out of there, to sort of ease the traffic flow late Sunday night/early Monday morning.
Here's where your argument falls apart though (IMO).
2006 had Oysterhead which is a special "get" and a pretty big name act but not a headliner. The same could be said for Buffalo Springfield (special "get", pretty big name act, not a headliner) in 2011.
In 2007, The Police headlined. Guess what....the drummer from The Police is also the drummer of Oysterhead. So what happened here is that he was brought back (repeat) with the act that he is primarily known for (The Police) to headline.
I think the same could happen with Neil Young and Crazy Horse (which is arguably more popular/bigger than Buffalo Springfield).
Neil Young himself is a draw for most people whether he's in Buffalo Springfield or playing with Crazy Horse. Just the drummer for The Police and Oysterhead is a draw to virtually no one, despite his respective bands being draws.

Hold on one minute. There should be a rule about people saying anything thread sucks when there is a mention of the Wire. I expected more from you, Flanzo.

Stewart Copeland might actually be a draw for me, in a weird way. Still, this "debate" is tedious and pointless. What is anybody even arguing? Please come back insider.
Disclaimer, I've only seen every season once so the rankings might not be definite. Except season 4 is for sure the best.
Halfway through 3 right now, so I might change my mind on that one. I'd probably move 2 closer to 1 and 3 after re-watching it, but it's still fourth best.
Season 2 is better once you get deeper and realize how everything is tied together.
Yeah, the first time I watched the series I think I was too taken aback by the quick change in scope to really truly appreciate 2. It was definitely better on repeat viewing.
From what I remember, season 3 had my favorite episode ever.

So as a person thats only seen half of season 1, I notice that you all put Season 5 as the weakest. Still worth watching though, yes? Is it like the mid-day Sunday of Wire seasons?

Exactly. I have DirecTV, and they have their DirecTV channel or whatever it's called. They started showing episodes of the Wire about 2 1/2 months ago, 2 episodes every Sunday. They just finished Season 2 this past Sunday, and I have to say it really grew on me.
Once you see the entire show, and go back to that season, you realize it may not have been as exciting in terms of drama/action, but it was vital to the development of the show.
I used to put Season 2 a distant 4th, now it's just 4th.

Yes. The reason people put Season 5 so low is because it's more about closure than anything else. They kind of bring all four other seasons back together and close out a LOT of the character story lines. But in the end, Season 5's biggest achievement (in my eyes) is how they use it to show that no matter how much things change in terms of individual circumstance, the more they stay the same.
I would think you of all people could appreciate the depth of the Sobotka storyline flanzo, being in manual labor yourself.
It's the most blue-collar season, and I love that about it. It added a new dimension to the series as a whole.
Well, I don't actually do any labor myself, I just manage projects, never actual work on them. But I do like that aspect of the show quite a bit. After Season 2 came out (amid mixed reviews) the creators/writers said they used the Pier storyline to show the decay of American blue-collar industries.
I agree, it is a great storyline that people are far too harsh on. I think people just dislike some of the characters themselves to much (like Ziggy) and there is less focus on the street-life portion (which is what drew every viewer to the show in the first place), that they don't like the season overall.

Honestly, would insider be afraid to show her face again based on the fact that everyone on this forum was/is expecting Radiohead based on her "R" hint but it ended up being the Chili Peppers? I want them there as much as the next Radiohead fan but them making an appearance seems less and less likely by the day (even though there's no evidence to support either way, it's me readying myself for the lineup drop).
I've been a lurker here since probably around 2008 and it's been nice actually posting and somewhat getting involved with the community, you guys seem pretty top notch as far as musical preferences. Do you guys plan a meet up at all when it's finally Roo weekend? It's always fun meeting strange people.

It's still really good and ties up a lot of things. The finale has an outstanding montage that really hits home the theme of the entire show.
But with a shortened season (10 episodes instead of 12 or 13) and a storyline that not many cared about (the dwindling newspaper/magazine industry) it's definitely a little weaker.
It's still totally worth watching and has some amazing moments....some of the best on the show.

Thank you, good to know. I plan on watching the series in the next few months. I honestly don't know how I failed so hard before now.

Even without insider's hint I think most people were hoping/expecting Radiohead, based on the fact that they are touring and (likely) haven't released all of the dates yet. There's also the fact that Ashley Capps wants them there (as told to an inforoo member) and Radiohead has called it a favorite show of theirs.
