This man is a snitch. But no way is RHCP big enough to headline the festival.

If Chad Smith had tweeted "good guess" Shhh why would he delete it ? If he did not want to confirm he would not have said anything. If he truly said "good guess, Shhh" that really does not mean anything. If the Chad Smith had tweeted back it would be all over the place.
Yes. They are a draw to a niche audience. RHCP is a draw to a bigger audience. I'm sorry but this isn't the same Bonnaroo it was in 2002. It always irks me when people say, "so and so isn't big enough to headline" when they've probably sold more albums (sorry, that's still the benchmark, even in our digital age) than all of the jam band headliners combined.
I do get the draw of Phish, but to say RHCP isn't "big enough" to headline is so fucking stupid. I guess Radiohead isn't big enough either.
The biggest factor in if a band is big enough to headline Roo is how many people are drawn to the festival. No matter what your personal opinion of Phish is they have a very large and very dedicated fanbase. On top of that their fans are the type that love music festivals.

RHCP will never be able to draw a bigger audience than Phish. Jam bands (for the most part) don't worry so much about sales and $$$$ they play because they love it. I like RHCP but when did they ever have their own fest or have large groups of people follow them from one show to the next?
Can we just rename the festival so I'll never have to see Trey on the farm again? Something like MTV-A-Roo or something.
My question now becomes who IS big enough to headline, if not RHCP? I'm sure people will see they're playing a festival and want to see them, in addition to the others. I know my first real year was 2009 (LOL NEWBIE) and I was drawn in because of Nine Inch Nails' "last US show ever" and seeing the Beastie Boys live. Granted, I'm not a Phish fan, and I have plenty of friends who are, but they dismiss Bonnaroo now and go to others, like Moogfest or Electric Forest, because it's more like the older Bonnaroo's.
I think I have this discussion every year around the same time Chalk it up to me not being a fan and just plain not getting it, I guess. Not dissing any of you who do enjoy Phish, because I'm sure there are people who will be baffled at my initial interest in the '09 line-up.
I'm sure this won't help but the ONLY reason I went in 2007 was to see Tool. And then I left, and didn't come back until 2009.
My point with the Coach headliners, drew, was that the ones they've had are the ones that everyone on here wishes would come to the farm in June, every year, without missing a beat. Sunday night, 12am, people are already calling for McCartney or Daft Punk to play the following year. Coachella has already had them, and will probably get them again before we do.
I don't think anyone on the Coachella boards are clamoring for Metallica or Eminem. But I get your point. Both have had stellar headliners. I'm just thankful this isn't a Lollapalooza board.
I highly doubt they "dropped the ball." They were sought after last year, according to insider, along with Prince. Logic tells me they tried again (why would they try for them, have it not work out, but then not try this year?). That obviously means they aren't ignoring Radiohead but do, in fact, want them there. They've played before, so it's not like AC is incapable an it, therefore, would be the band's choice to play or not. Maybe the dates didn't work out for them, or they only wanted to do one festival, or what?
And, for the record, I don't see RHCP as the top headliner. My guess is they play Friday and RH/Prince/Macca play Saturday.

Not everyone, they can keep this years line up. I might be in the minority but like I said not everyone. Glad to be going to Roo. And of the bands you listed, for me only McCartney is the big name. And though I not a big fan, Springsteen is pretty close to as big a name as McCartney.

RHCP absolutely 100% can be the top name on the bill. People need to realize this and accept it. It'll cause less anger/sadness on lineup announcement day.

I do agree. Prince & Paul are my two biggest wants, but I think Coachella more gets lucky than anything. AC tried for Prince last year, but insider said it "fell through." Not sure why they haven't gotten Paul, to be honest. They booked Daft Punk for Vegoose, so it's not like they're incapable of getting them.
In all honesty, I vastly prefer Bonnaroo's lineup to Coachella's. Coachella books too many acts that are "trendy" to me instead of focusing on music that I actually want to see. I don't give a shit about Avicii or Swedish House Mafia or any of the other electronic or indie bands that it's hipstery and cool to like at the moment but won't be around in 4-5 years.

Then who's the other headliner? I simply don't see them booking Foos or Muse or anything like that as they're basically from the same demographic.
Different demographic, rare enough live combo that it'd be a huge attraction, and maybe by then Dre's Detox will be out (HAHAHAHA).
I said before that it wouldn't happen, but if I'm being honest, I kind of could see the Foos into RHCP, Phish on Sunday to close, and Dre and Snoop on Saturday. Does Phish HAVE to play 2 sets that weekend? No.

Agreed that Foos and Muse are similar to RHCP. I could see Dre/Snoop as the Friday HL or, dare I say, Drake? I honestly think one of the headliners is going to be a Hip-Hop act. I know it's not a rule that Bonnaroo has to have a hip-hop headliner but I really have a feeling that they're going to continue the trend this year.
And for the record, I don't know poop about hip-hop/rap so Dre/Snoop and Drake were my guesses only because it's what people on this board have been talking about the most.
