I'm curious how you get into the area directly in front of the what stage? I've searched and maybe I'm dumb, but I couldn't find it. I always thought it was VIP but not sure. Does anyone know?? Any info would help.

What do you think is the best way to find out about this?? I was told in the past that it's VIP and by the sounds its not. The only specail viewing is from "The Hill" or from the bleachors. I'd love be right down in the middle and as close as possible for a few shows, but I want to know the best way to do it. ANY ONE GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS??

I read in a thread somewhere that it was the mosh pit. I have been searching for it with no luck. I did a web search of Bonnaroo, What Stage and Mosh Pit and it seemed to confirm what I read in the thread.

^^ would have to agree, i landed myself down there in 04ish for the Dave and friends show. i was about 10 people deep from the stage which was awesome at first. the crowd never really lurched like some general admission shows Ive been to in the past but it did get tight and then maybe two hours in the kid standing next to me had a seizure and puked everywhere. that was annoying! an attempt to walk out took forever and pissed off everyone in the non path behind me, not to mention i probably smelled like some smurfs puke. i think its a little more organized now but after that experience Ive never felt the need to be that close since... maybe I'm just getting old

They only allow 700 per side into the pits in front of the what stage. So yes you do need to get in line for the pits. Arlene and I made it into the pits in 08 for everybody except for Jack Johnson . The only crush we had was for Pearl Jam. Arlene and I did'nt touch the ground for close to a hundred feet ,but all was handeled well by the security team.
I know the bleachers by Which are for VIP ticket-holders, but what about the bleachers at What stage? Are those for VIP too -- or do VIP Roo-goers just get "the hill"? If so, who are those What stage bleachers for?
While there are long lines for the headliners we've found it quite easy to just wander in to the pit during the afternoon shows, last year we spent some time watching Jimmy Cliff and John Fogerty without any waiting. People tend to come and go so it's fairly easy to get in. While it's kind of cool to get up front like that I think the show is more enjoyable a little further away.

Have to agree with this^^. I've been able to politely move up front to get some great pictures, then back out. Intensely crowded. Nothing is as good as having a blanket (water proof), good company, relaxing, and taking in all the sights, sounds, and music. Well, maybe total access but still on the fence about that. I'm really about being there, hearing it live, and sharing it with good people. Not so sure how well you can share the experience with others front and center. ???
