I do think its awful, but honestly it doesn't bother me as much as the Osuna thing.
the Red Sox got caught doing it and won a world series, iirc braves/brewers/yankees have all been accused of doing it as well. I also think that no other past astros coming forward sooner makes me feel like more teams for sure do it. cora definitely kept his mouth shut, Morton didn't say anything, Marwin. Like, generally if someone whistle blows or comes forward, it's because there are some kind of negative reprocussions to doing so and others choose not to come forward. if you get blacklisted for exposing cheating, that means everyone's cheating, at least on some level.
i do hate that it's so blantatly obvious though. that's the real kicker. we're basically the trump administration down to the "i'm so fucking glad we got osuna" and that's the most upsetting thing. i think if the investigation finds guilt it would be in our best interest to clean house with the front office/coaches. as far as player suspensions go, i wouldn't really bet on anything big, its going to be hard to prove (unless we double down on being fucking stupid and have a notebook about it), and the majority of the blame should go towards any exec/coach advocating for it and putting the pressure on the player to make that choice.

. Every team tries to figure out each other’s signs and gain a competitive advantage, but when you use camera and technology it’s a whole different story. I can’t see the players really catching any kind of big punishment. I would guess Hinch and Cora and any other coaches involved may see a suspension, and the Astros probably catch a big fine.
Not too shocking I guess, certainly makes the optics look better for Crane and the roster is still stacked. + a lot of talk about Cora seeing a lifetime ban, which I doubt but wouldn't be the most shocking.
As a Braves fan its weird how not-harsh this is compared to the Coppolella ban, though I guess that was more because he lied in the investigation than because of the rule-breaking.
Nothing is guaranteed, especially in baseball where the best team doesn't always win. Playoffs are really a crap-shoot once you get in. With that said, Betts makes that lineup so damn sick.
"During the World Series last year, former Phillies manager Larry Bowa said Philadelphia has a reputation for stealing signs.
Bowa, now the Los Angeles Dodgers' third-base coach, told Philadelphia radio station ESPN 950 there were rumors of the Phillies using a center-field camera to swipe signs.
"There's rumors going around that when you play the Phillies, there's a camera somewhere or bullpen people are giving signs,"
Close your mouth sweetie, you look like a trout.
“Did you use buzzers?”
"We got investigated for three months," Hinch said. "The commissioner’s office did as thorough an investigation as anyone could imagine was possible. I know you mentioned the e-mails and the texts and the messages. And I believe it. And I believe in the findings."
Idk maybe a person who didn’t use technology to gain an unprecedented level of competitive advantage would of just said “no”.
And maybe someone with a decent counter argument would give something a little more nuanced then “there’s rumors they did something wrong too” with an Office reference thrown in.
A. Very happy you got the ref lol, was worried it would come off as too mean without.
B. just saying, sign stealing has always been a part of baseball. Lots of teams have been accused, few have been caught. It's more disappointing that we were clearly fucking idiots about it.
I still don't think the players should've been punished. Top down pressure coming from the people who control the players lives, clearly a league wide pressure to not whistle blow when cheating, etc.
But dodgers fans are all up in arms about us, and then trade for a Sox player who probably benefited from the same system.
I think baseball has a ton of dumb unwritten things and historically people steal signs and it's highly likely your (or anyones) team was doing it at some point.

yeah sign stealing has always been a thing, but using the Buzzers is just in its own league of bullshit. I dont follow baseball a ton (I did when I was in like middle school and the phillies were winning 100+ games) but If you ask me I think the title should be stripped and the rings taken away. They got immunity from suspension / financial losses, they deserve to have their names scrubbed from the record books.

We'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if some people get lesser contracts then they would normally get going forward.
And, now that I'm thinking about it I wonder if that was something in contact negotiations. Like does the Astros knowing someone is using the system effect how they approach that, like we'll you only hit .300 because, and the agent fires back that they'll squeel?
I genuinely think the buzzer thing is bs and that's a typical lawyery response and doesn't equate to guilt.
