Beware the Reds in 2019--they keep finishing last in the stacked central but they will surpass Pittsburgh, St Louis and possibly even Chicago and Milwaukee this year.

If you're the Padres, you got to at least start trying. The NL West is always going to be competitive with LA and SF in the division. The Padres have some worthwhile prospects coming soon, plus Will Myers and Eric Hosmer. Why not splurge a bit and make a push?
I'd try and make a run at a pitcher if I was them too. See if they could get Kuechel at like 15m a year.

kuechel without the pressure of being the star here and then immediately watching yourself tumble to the 5 spot in rotation will probably do wonders for him. he definitely blew it, but the city turned on him pretty quick. especially since the other pitchers were just outclassing him day in and out.

Padres have the best system in the game. Manny was looking for the highest offer (it seems). This makes total sense to me. Padres may not win this year but they are going to have a window opening with a lot of cheap guys, makes sense to have one $30mm/year star. If only they hadn't traded Trea Turner...
not convinced 1 player is gonna make the phillies a playoff team, but this signing is huge for the city. people are gonna go to phillies games again.
They've also added Realmuto, McCutchen, Robertson, and Jean Segura. That's a pretty damn good off-season, they have a legit chance of being a playoff team.

Yeah they'll be good, but if my memory serves me right their bullpen is still just awful, and I feel like that leads to more success
Was Chipper Jones a regional superstar or was he a superstar to everyone? Interesting discussion I just heard.
Star in my eyes. Face of that franchise for a long time, great player, he'll be tied to discussions about Cox. He's pretty much the best switch hitter of all time, if not, very close.
He also happens to be non-Astro I've seen live more than any player, more than most people who played for the Stros, just because I happened to go to a lot of Braves games, including going to Tampa and seeing the Braves play there too just by chance.
I did see him play in Biggio's last game, and on Biggio's last at bat Chipper got the hop and held on to the ball for the longest time, like 'hurry up you old bag of bones i can't hold the ball forever' before finally throwing him out with a smile.

I was a huge Chipper fan and I think he would be considered a star everywhere. A guy on the radio was saying that he was just regional. His example was that no one in California was buying Chipper jerseys. So I was wondering about that. This was all part of his bigger point that Acuna is going to be the biggest star to play for the Braves since Hank Aaron. So obviously that means bigger than Chipper

"The Braves' Chipper Jones hasn't changed what's on the front of his jersey in his 20-year career, but his season-long curtain call had fans buying his jersey, which came in at No. 8."
Acuna is probably just as hot as Heyward was coming in. I think Acuna will be better than him. Andru Jones also was kind of huge at some point too. But Chipper to me is just the Bravest brave, especially since all those 90s pitchers pitched elsewhere.

Acuna is definitely going to be a star. I have a hard time believing he'll be bigger than Chipper.
