Oh yeah it definitely could be that - sorry, I should have mentioned that in my post. Definitely a possibility.
I don't really know anything about Probot, though - does it seem likely that they'd play Bonnaroo? I mean, they've never actually done any live performance as Probot, have they? I guess basically as far as the name goes they're a good fit for the clue, I just don't know if they really make sense as a Bonnaroo act so that's why I'm not more confident in the answer.

First post here, although longtime rooer....
I have a crazy idea...what if by location of Amoeba they mean the one in Guitar Hero World Tour? And what did Amoeba NOT carry? Well, according to one site I found-Amoeba never sold new video games...until Guitar Hero World Tour. Per wikipedia, the artists that played the Amoeba stage in GHWT are: Bon Jovi Allman Brothers Blondie Paramore Interpol
Someone, please give me a one shot to the head if it were Bon Jovi.
Of those, Allmans are easy choice, but Interpol is intriguing-and it wouldn't be a big surprise if Paramore played. Blondie would be pure nostalgia imho. I'm probably WAAAAYYYY out in left field on this one, but felt like throwing it out there. Let loose the naysayers...
Amoeba reproduce by cell division. There will always be an even number of offspring (hypothetically). So, after one division there will only be 2 individuals. If one is in Berkeley and the other in SF, there can't be a 3rd in LA at the same time. Also, after cell division both individuals are genetically similar. Zappa plays Zappa?
I am not sure but I think either amoeba or protazoan are derived from Greek meaning change shape. Also Amoeba's keep shape through osmotic pressure don't they? So do we know any bands that relate in some way to changing shape (shapeshifter) or relate to osmosis?

I tried the shapeshifter thing for Vampire Weekend but I think I read somewhere they will not be playing.
Going with the '60s show theme, Amoebas reproduce by splitting. Banana Splits was a popular kids' show back then. The theme for Banana Splits heavily influenced Bob Marley's "Buffalo Soldier." I'm guessing the answer might be Damian Marley (for now). Do they serve banana splits in each of the Amoeba record stores?
amoeba=protozoa Darren Aronofsky has company called Protozoa Pictures/Amoeba Proteus Animation (Protozoa.com). "Pi" is a Darren Aronofsky film. The soundtrack includes music from Massive Attack and Aphex Twin. What do you think???????????

Somebody brought up Beck on another clue and I was thinking that maybe the shapeshifter thing has something to do with "Sea Change" Maybe Beck could be at Roo again

There's a Chicago record label called Proteus Entertainment (amoeba proteus is the most well-known amoeba species) which released an album by Goran Ivanovic and Fareed Haque, who leads Garaj Mahal.
There was also a jam band from several years ago called pseudopod (the shape-shifting tentacle-leg thing by which amoebae move), but I don't think they're together anymore.

The Decemberist had a concept album with a song that referenced the shape shifting guess of the amoeba
The Hazards of Love is a medieval romance about a maiden who is impregnated when a wounded fawn she encounters in an enchanted wood shape-shifts into a demon-lover.
A quick trip to wikipedia revealed an album by british comedian named Nigel Planer who plays Neil on the BBC's The Young Ones, who has an album from 1984 titled "Neil's Heavy Concept Album"...side 2 track 10 - The Amoeba Song. Produced by Dave Stewart (not of the Eurythmics)
Just a little Wikipedia thought but The Who's Quadrophenia and Genesis' The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway are both concept albums dealing with split personalities (split=mitosis... heh.)

Peter Gabriel; Gabriel was an angel, what was that about l.a? City of lost angels? (Won't find him in the city of lost angels.) And he split from Genesis....

I just clicked on bonnaroo radio while I'm reading this and Gogol Bordello is playing which made me think of the golgi apparatus in cells. Think this might be the connection?
not to keep harping on the "Neil's Heavy Concept Album" thing but wikipedia also reads on to say...
After "The Amoeba Song" It also features a track called "Go Away" where Neil tries to explain the album has finished and after that another track "Brown Sugar" where Neil discovers some buskers performing the track by The Rolling Stones and joins in with them.
Although the Stones would not excite me that much, I thought it might be worth mentioning. The article also makes reference to Traffic and King Crimson

Yeah I was thinking Peter Gabriel there. Especially since he's got an album coming out very soon...
