The third year PO is very unique, has not been done on a rookie extension over 30M/yr since Luka and Trae, according to Bobby Marks. The first year salary (33.5M) is lower than his cap hold as a #2 overall player (37.4M), so the team saves about 3.9M in cap space next summer from waiting to sign him next year. The full rookie max extension that Cade, Mobley and Franz got was worth 44M/yr. I like it. I think all parties involved will be happy.

Why would Wemby regress? Even if his shooting slumps or something his defense is DPOY level already and CP3 literally just has to be able to throw an entry pass or lob to be better than whoever the Spurs had last year
