The GM shot that down in an interview at Summer League. There was a report yesterday that the team views him as a top 5 center in the league. Knicks fans got themselves in a frenzy about trading Randle for him a few weeks ago which was annoying and goofy.
I think people are misinterpreting the Rockets not signing him to a max extension already as them not ever wanting to. If they wait until next off-season to sign him and Jalen to extensions, they'll have I think about 30 million in cap space to use before doing so, similar to the Sixers doing so with Maxey this off-season. They signed PG13 first and then extended Maxey. Maxey and Sengun were drafted in the mid first round so their cap holds are lower than for example Jalen Green's. There's a slightly better chance Green gets his extension early because its value is closer to his cap hold as a #2 pick, but they most likely wait on both.
So Sengun stans are freaked out and say it's disrespect, Jalen haters say oh well Cade and Mobley got extensions so Jalen is a bust because he doesn't have one, but it's just cap machinations.
If they got a huge return for him, I could see trading him. He's probably the most valuable player on the team and eventually it's gonna get hard to pay everyone, like if Amen and Reed become max level guys too. But it would have to be for something amazing.
