They didnt even have that much time to to play together but some of the players dont give a shit like a Kobe or Lebron do when it comes to the olympics anyway. There will be excuses that the nba season was pushed this late and you had 3 players fly over 48 hours after the finals ended which shouldnt even have to happen. The rules and refs are very much not doing them any favors either. Why would they not consider practicing games with fiba refs so they could adjust to how calls would be made? Somebody such as Harden thinking they cracked the code on some weird hybrid euro step fade away shot isnt gonna matter in this situation. The guy on team France is right, one one one you cant beat em but all of them as a team you will.
Yeah, I saw his comments. I ended up conflating 2 different thoughts without a proper explanation. Valanciunas is on an expiring contract ($14MM). He is unrestricted next year. So we'll be $25MM this year and probably closer to $35k next year. I don't know what they'll do with Hart. He'll command some money, but he's probably a better fit for a large bench role on a competitive team. He's my favorite player on our team, so I'd hate to lose him. But eating up $10=12MM of salary might not be enough to justify retaining him since we have an obvious need to get better at plenty of positions. It seems as though Jonas is an upgrade, and we dumped two extra high salaries on players that didn't fit as well as they should have (I did like Adams though). I think we picked up a decent trade exemption, and on the financial end, we jettisoned $35MM worth of contracts and only took on one year at $14MM.
I think it was a pretty great trade for the Pelicans. Got out from under a ton of salary and picked up an awesome player on a great deal in Jonas. Could help them re-sign those two guys or chase bigger FAs next year. Jonas hopefully helps them compete for a play-in bid and make the tournament, which is probably the main focus in Zion's third year. The draft capital/positions they gave up were meaningful but not enormous.
I could see Hart getting over 12m, I wouldn't match that if I were pelis, but I feel like a good defense/rebounding guard is a need for a bunch of teams

Right. And he's one of the best at it. But I don't know how much they can afford to match without upgrading more primary needs. If the team is set on Alexander-Walker at the 2 and Hayes as at least the backup 5 for the next few years, then I think they need to let Ball walk as well. I never could wrap my head around what he ought to be paid. No doubt there will be some interest in teams overpaying for him. But he's got an unknown ceiling. Would he be worth, under a new contract, $17MM? $20MM? Maybe someone will offer him $22? Can't say, but we probably need to be non-participants (or work a sign and trade) as re-signing him doesn't necessarily make us better.
he's 23 and a good defender, but I imagine Simmons awful end of year would make people skeptical about a PG that can't shoot well, so yeah idk where the money take it. sign and trade makes sense if they want to upgrade at PG regardless though
It’s all credit to his work with Coach Vinson. Fred will have helped him earn millions and possibly tens of millions more in salary than he might otherwise have made. My thing with Ball is you really don’t know where the ceiling is. He’s only 23 in an era where guys who maybe were only a year or two out of college a few decades ago are now veterans of several seasons. Does someone hit their prime, assuming they stay healthy, mid 20’s? Late 20’s? Early 30’s? You never know for sure in advance with any given player. I don’t feel like he’s a hall of fame talent, but he’s proven he has upside. And if he stays disciplined and continues working on his overall game, he can at least be pretty if not damn good and probably see some all star games. I always figured our salary target for him would have to be less than what he’s likely to see on the market. No doubt he’ll get a deal in the range of 17-22/year. Best guess would be someone pays 20.5/21MM.
Not sure about the Jaxson Hayes shit. Hopefully he made a youthful mistake or was just in a bad situation and hasn’t fucked up his career putting that cop in the hospital. I haven’t checked on the story since earlier today because my youngest brother passed through for dinner on his way up to W NC.

it seems like the cops were responding to a domestic violence call so even if the cops over did it w him because he's just massive there's still potential that he's just a scum bag

They said domestic disturbance not violence. Maybe it was maybe it wasn’t. I saw one story where a neighbor heard a lady at 3am scream something like “no don’t turn him on his side.” Not sure how that applies or if they had someone there who was od’ing or just fucked up on booze or something which can lead to random results when we are in our youth. So why Hayes wanted to keep the cops out of his house so bad that they fought about it, I don’t know. Glad no one was seriously hurt or killed.
It's wear the wrong hat day aka NBA Draft Day. Wojnarowksi said the Pistons have settled on Cade Cunningham.
We have traded recently acquired Pick #53 to the 76ers for $2 million in cash considerations. No fucking idea how that pick is worth $2MM. But we'll take it.
