So happy to see this thread alive and well in my absence. My dad passed away this month, so I'm standing to inherit his collection, which should more than double what I currently have (plus I've been buying vinyl like a madman to cope with the grief.) All in all I'm guessing it's about 1500 pieces of vinyl. Once I get the collection consolidated I'll definatly post some pictures.
Also just picked up the Tom Waits Orphans 7 LP set and the White Stripes Under Great White Northern Lights boxset, and they are both well worth the cash.

No insert unfortunately, I looked it up on popsike after and it would have been worth much more had it included the lyrics sheet. But I got it for 7 bucks so I can't complain.
Ya TFA is always a great find no matter when its from or what it has with it. I have a copy from the 70s with the insert but unfortunately the record itself has a crack in it.

I just got my copies of the SXSW Texas pressings of The White Stripes' "De Stijl" and "White Blood Cells." These records are now two of the most cherished pieces in my collection. I collect Stripes vinyl, and I've got some great stuff (red and white vinyl copy of Elephant, original SFTRI pressing of the self-titled, and a bunch of singles), but I like these most of all.
For those unaware: at SXSW, Third Man Records set-up a store where they sold "Texas" versions of some previous releases. All the Third Man singles from last year were relased on 8" vinyl (instead of 7') and they did 13" versions of the albums De Stijl, White Blood Cells, and Broken Boy Soldiers. The inner sleeve is branded with the Third Man logo and the words "Ya'lls Turntable Ain't Big Enough."
Too much awesome stuff to mention, but many of you will be excited to find that The Flaming Lips are releasing Dark Side of seafoam green vinyl. Additionally, the Beastie Boys have a white label surprise (not many copies though) and The Black Keys will be releasing the first tracks off their upcoming album.
Okay, so I've been meaning to take the plunge into vinyl for some time now, but a lack of money, a lack of knowledge about vinyl, and lack of places to buy vinyl have always stood in my way. Anyway, I was over at my friend's apartment last night to nom some corn, and at the foot of his staircase was a huge box of vinyl that someone in his building had been trying to get rid of. He said I could take whatever I want. I asked if I could take the whole thing, and he said "please, you'll be doing me a favor." Among some standouts are Joan Baez, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Who, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Alan Parsons Project, Jerry Garcia Band, David Grisman, and Crosby & Nash.
So here I am, with a box of about 75-80 classic rock albums, and nothing to play them on. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good record player? Or any advice in general for a vinyl newbie like myself?

I am in the same position as Jack....except I didn't get a box full of awesome records. I am buying my first record player in about a week and a half. I know absolutely nothing about what I am getting myself into.

Is that Beck the new reissue I was reading about? If so, how does it sound? I have the original K recs release but I was thinking about getting the reissue so I could take the original out of listening rotation.

Yep it's the reissue. I can't report on how it sounds yet, I've been kind of stuck on the Caribou release, but it's packaged really well. Heavy weight vinyl, gatefold sleeve, second vinyl with unreleased tracks, thing is definitely quality.
