So I figure since I have the time, I wanna fix a few albums that have slight warps in them. Were not talking bad ones, just a little wave when they play. After watching a few Youtubes, I'm convinced I can do this. All I need is two pieces of glass and an oven.
Went to the post off ice to pick up my packages. So stoked for Friday. New Oranssi Pazuzu and Hexvessel are in. GREAT psych day to take my mind off shiz.
Came home. Warm up the stereo and nothing. New turntable, new speakers. NOTHING. Which worked before I left to go out. I think I finally put the knife in my reciver.
This is a vent more than anything. RIP ya peice of fucking shit. Thanks for fucking me on new release day. Ya bastard.
My stylus is almost cooked. I can afford a decent one but ugh what bad timing. I was hoping to wait another month or so and upgrade the turntable
Would it be smart to buy a cheapo stylus until you have the cash for a new turntable? It's not optimal but you can hold on to it if you get in a pinch.
Not vinyl related but I've been in the market for a new headphone stand. Finally ordered one on Etsy. It's completely a LOL situation and I'm keeping it.
Long story short, it's not even the material the guy described and the drip marks from the spray paint are hysterical. It's atrocious and completely me.

I have AT-LP60 and I do not recall what cartridge I have, because it's been a few years. It's an unmarked yellow one, and it's a higher quality one than the normal cartridge, I just can't remember what make.
I could easily replace it for like $20 with the default AT one, but the player itself seems to be having mechanical issues too. Sometimes the fucker just stops dead then starts back up again for no clear reason.

That's more than likely the belt imo. That's the first place I'd start. The stylus is what's more important as you don't wanna scratch the records you own.
If you're planning on upgrading, this is all moot. Just take the $25 and put it towards a new unit.
Unfortunately given the stimulus check/tax return/the sale of my late grandmother's house/my lease being up in a month/my impending graduation from grad school/the uncertainty of the employment market right now, I have no idea what my finances/living situation are going to look like just yet

Man dude, that’s a lot at once I’m sorry. Good thing you’ll have a new turntable to help you through all that.
yeah, it's wild. i mean, tax return and sale of nana's house should keep me afloat for a while. no idea what's happening with the stimulus check.
the decision to move or not depends on the job market, which I will be diving into headfirst this weekend. hopefully I'll have answers there sooner rather than later.

One of the records stores in town posted today that they called to pay their rent for this month only to find out that somebody had already anonymously paid it for them. Sucks that businesses are having to get support from individuals, but it's great to know there's people out there doing good works.
So I figure since I have the time, I wanna fix a few albums that have slight warps in them. Were not talking bad ones, just a little wave when they play. After watching a few Youtubes, I'm convinced I can do this. All I need is two pieces of glass and an oven.
Has anyone baked vinyl before? Any tips?
I bought a $1 meet the Beatles that aside from the clearly handled by children with crayons cover is a fine record except for a bend during Hold Your Hand. I asked the guy I bought it from about it and he said it was probably easily fixable but they had too many records like it to be worth the time. I looked into it and was stopped by the "you just need two glass panels" part
But from what I saw it's a super short window from no change > fixed > melted so anything of real value or is hard to replace is probably not a good start.

This is ultimately what stopped me in my tracks. If I screwed something up, which is very plausible, I'd lose the record.
So my wife and I finally dove into the world of vinyl...I'm sure others out there are in the same mode, seeing we have so much time on our hands and all of our travel plans have been axed!
I haven't seen many discuss this online, but I found out last week that Tower Records is back online with a huge inventory...We ordered a bundle of goodies and are waiting for them to arrive next week. Has anybody else bought from them yet?

Congrats on making you guys poor.
I saw where Tower had an online presence again in an article about Amoeba closing its Hollywood store for now. Apparently I should look that up.
I was actually thinking about Psycho today when I was opening up a bigger package
I forgot this was in there but super happy its here.
Dropped a lot on new records during the Bandcamp promotion yesterday. Can't wait for all the bleep bloops.
We didn't go too crazy, but yeah I bought a handful of records yesterday too...Off top of head I got Greet Death's New Hell, Shannon Lay's Living Water, and Chicano Batman's latest.
But yeah we've bought A LOT in the past 2-3 weeks...Figured the $ we are saving on not going to shows & trips gives us a decent amount to buy records.

Yesterday I only ended up getting William Tyler's Modern Country (a record I've needed to own for some time) and Haley Heynderickx's debut from last year. Excited for those to come in.
But moving into a new apartment, upgrading my stereo equipment, and quarantine has really thrown me deep back into record collecting and listening. Including a couple purchases from pre-quarantine, I've so far picked up or have on the way:
Allman Brothers - At Fillmore East Big Thief - Two Hands Courtney Marie Andrews - May Your Kindness Remain Frank Zappa - Waka/Jawaka Heron Oblivion - Heron Oblivion Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly King Gizz - Chunky Shrapnel Little Simz - GREY Area Parquet Courts - Wide Awake US Girls - In A Poem Unlimited Weyes Blood - Titanic Rising
I didn't end up buying too much Friday. I bought a preorder of that Sacred Bones Black Sabbath tribute and the September ship date depressed me so much I put my computer away.
I did get my stimulus this week and went Discogs crazy. I dropped on a record that I've been after for years waiting for a vinyl reissue that never happened. Now that I'm $150 lighter, they'll announce that on Monday with a September shipping date.
My Friday haul (not counting digital purchases): Zoom by upsammy Various Artists [MLKL011] by JKS, Bad Boy Pete, Jacidorex, Vikkei 1972 by Tobias Vortekz by Vril Powder In Space by Powder Hope You’re Well by Project Pablo Odds Against Us by Martyn Voids by Martyn Wild Chamber by upsammy 2012 by Skee Mask (got the last reissue on Ilian Tape's Bandcamp) Shred by Skee Mask Forse by Andrea Urango 2/3 by Fango The Album by SW. As much as I miss buying records at shows, it's been nice moving my concert money into buying more records directly from stores. If y'all are looking for local record stores near you that are selling online, curbside pick up, etc, Discogs put together a nice list: blog.discogs.com/en/discogs-supports-record-stores/
My quarantine pickups so far:
Manuel Göttsching - Inventions For Electric Guitar Various - Wild Things (New Zealand Freakbeat 1966-1968) John Coltrane - Giant Steps Shanti Celeste - Tangerine U-Roy - Dread In A Babylon Minami Deutsch - Minami Deutsch Happy End - はっぴいえんど Various - Midnight in Tokyo Vol.2 Dhidalah - Threshold Dungen – Häxan (Versions By Prins Thomas)
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Flying Micotonal Banana King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Fishing for Fishies Queens of the Stone Age - Rated X (Rated R) The Juan Maclean - In A Dream Chapterhouse - Whirlpool The Antlers - Hospice Shannon Lay - Living Water Shannon Lay - Blue (single)
I really slowed down on my vinyl collecting some time in 2018, and I’ve picked back up (ordering online) since the covid deal. I’ve picked up some great stuff over the last few months...
Skinny Puppy - VivisectVI (original Canadian press) Babe Ruth - First Base (this is an album I would often forget about over the years, but it’s some great 70s prog. Awesome cover of Zappa’s King Kong and the truly classic The Mexican highlight this record) Jessie Ware - Devotion (thought I ordered the version with the original unedited 110%, but it’s the copyright edited If Your Never Gonna Move. Oh well, that’ll have to come later) Meat Beat Manifesto - Satyricon (double disc version. One of my all time favorite albums.) Lost In The Trees - A Church That Fits Our Needs (I think I over payed just a little, but it’s an awesome, beautiful album so I’m okay with it.) Gene Clark - No Other (limited box set. This was technically before most of us were aware of the virus but I’m including it as it’s another of my top 5 albums ever... shit, this could end up fighting it out with NIN - Fragile and Michael Jackson - Off the Wall for the revolving door of my VERY favorite album ever.)
Now, I recall Cedric Bixler Zavala saying there would be new, superior pressings of their earlier Mars Volta albums, but I think it’s been a year or so. So... I think I may do some serious comic sales for the older pressings, just to have, I’d consider paying extra for sealed copies. I’m only lacking two Skinny Puppy records that I need (Rabies and Cleanse Fold and Manipulate), so I will try to find cheaper copies of those. I missed out on a Last Rights repress deluxe edition for $200 (which believe it or not, is an amazing price for that set, and with it being a top 5 all time album to me, I really should have jumped on it.
Also, I need to start looking for original pressings of the two Dillard & Clark albums. Fantastic Expedition should be a bit hard to find for a decent price, but Through The Morning Through The Night should be fairy easy to find at a good price.
I’ve as well taken an interest in early Elvis Presley 7” releases, they’re not as insanely high as I would have expected.
Edit: Snowman’s post reminded me that I still need a few early Mothers albums. Most notably Grand Wazoo, Waka Jawaka, Absolutley after, and Uncle Meat. I can’t remember if I have Weasels Ripped My Flesh and Apostrophe, so those are wants as well. I don’t remember if there’s a Yellow Shark vinyl release but I need that one too.
