when and where is inforoo brunch? i don't even know where camp inforoo is...i'm gonna have to camp next to my car, but seeing that i'm going solo for the first time this year, i'd like to stop by the to meet some fellow inforoo'ers...
Hey man. I just sent you an email with the deets to your naterosing yahoo address. If you're solo, you should def. consider hanging where the inforoo peeps are.
Well, it was a hell of a weekend. We were teaming with a guy from Rolling Stone/High Times/The Source for most of Roo. We had some bigger interviews lined up, but the larger the act, the more likely they are to bail! Oh well. Rothbury's in two weeks.
At Roo, we interviewed:
Robert F Kennedy Jr (!?) Chuck D from Public Enemy (!!! - Legendary sh!t!) King Sunny Ade The Knux Portugal. The Man High On Fire (Very funny interview) The Dillinger Escape Plan
We also had The B Boys, Mars Volta, Phish, and Springsteen as probables, but they bailed.

Nope, I fought my way to the front and parked it for the shows I wanted to see/shoot like any other regular dude. It meant that I wasn't able to shoot as many artists as someone with a photo pass would and I didn't have any real mobility, but I got to shoot entire sets. It's a good thing too, Elvis Costello didn't make his guest appearance in Jenny Lewis's set until probably 6 songs in, long after the photographers had been ushered out of the pit.

So did the catering service in the press/guest area leave anyone else with food poisoning? I was holed up in a Lenoir City motel Sunday and Monday night with the worst case ever and I know exactly where it came from.
I ordered an $8 taco that was basically one tortilla with a hamburger split in half and some lettuce thrown on top. I asked the guy 'is this it?' and he kind of gave me a surly 'yeah' in response. Little did I know that it also came with a free side of e. coli.

Yeah, that catering company was the suck. I liked the iced coffee though.

I don't think I entered the press area once. I didn't have any reason to after I abandoned the idea of updating during the festival. Luckily, my site was right near Shakedown, so instead of poisoning myself with overpriced tacos, I enjoyed the luxury of $1 grilled cheese.
What kind of camera were you carrying danbird? I was told that no photos were allowed back there and had to stealth a few on my phone.
I was just using my kodak point and shoot. I had someone shoe me away when I was trying to take a pic of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but I just went back when he turned around again.

Did anyone see the shirtless guy walking around Friday evening with the baggy pants, oversized fuzzy top hat and about $20,000 in cameras slung around his neck? I saw him coming out of the backstage area and wanted to know what his story was.

Here's the review with my pics for Jambase.com I had access to the pits & managed to cover 42 bands this year. Lot's of work but got some nice shots. The "Rod Snyder" shots are mine:)

Did anyone else have a ridiculous experience with will call/the radio station like I did? It was very disorganized and unlike my experience in '08 and I was extremely angry about it.
If you mean by not being able to find it, yes. Once I got in it was fine.

I had another press friend tell me about this. I am confused about it, because for 5 straight years I have never checked in anywhere besides the Holiday Inn. We were done in about 5 minutes this year. Then I talked to my friend and he said he stood in the rain for 3 hours waiting to get into a radio station and get his press credentials. Anyone know the details/explanation of the two different check-ins?
Press check in was a b!tch and a half. it was my first time, so I don't have any other years to judge against. we were there 30 mins early and waited for probably 2 hours to get ours. It was a bit ridiculous.
if you arrived early at press check in at the radio station, then yes.. it was a pain int he ass. they were late in getting the list to the radio station and the rain was coming down hard. meanwhile, you could have just checked in at the holiday inn easily. no line. no waiting. no rain.
the shirtless guy with the hat is a photographer. i forget his name. nice guy. he also wears a santa claus outfit at least once every fest.

^ wow. i hate to hear things like that. last year was my first year covering and while i was growing impatient with the late arrival of the big hassle list, its okay. i guess you gotta expect things like that will happen. no problem. waited at the radio station for about 5 hours (6a-11a) before i actually got my wrist band. then add another 3 hours in traffic, meaning from the time i entered the traffic line to the time i was setting up camp - i was quite pleased with that. the yellow shirts gave me a bit of trouble when showing them my media wrist band. i had to show them some paper, which they walked off with to talk to someone, and they came back and said "you need an actual ticket" and i just kept tellinng them "no, i'm media, i'm covering the festival, this wristband is my ticket!" and finally they let me drive on through. all in all though, wonderful experience after that.
actually now that i think about it, they told me i was in the wrong line also but it was too late cause i was already at the tollbooths. but those were the directions that the radio station gave me. actually i saved the directions from the radio to the farm. i'll have to dig that up.
We even recorded Trey's soundcheck at Phish. We were three of maybe ten people there at his soundcheck, including Mike Gordon, Trey's kids, and two or three other people. It was AMAZING.
it was amazing.
did you ever post this audio to the interwebs? or here?
