So since at least season 3, and maybe even 2, I've noticed there's a ton of scenes where characters faces are half covered in shadows and half in the light. Every scene with Gus at his "meeting place" type thing whenever he would meet with the Cartel (sorry I don't know what to call it) would have it. In a ton of other ones either Jesse's or Walt's face would be half in the shadows. I always thought it might've been some not-so-subtle way to signify the characters had both good and bad in them, but that seemed too cheesy for a show this good. I don't know if it was supposed to be foreshadowing (zing) for Gus, but it was at least interesting to me.
I really hope season 5 is Walt and Jesse being BFF's and Hank continuing his hunt, but I doubt the Lily of the Valley thing is just ignored the rest of the way.

Holy jeezers! Nice finale in a much different way than season 3's. I am am surprised my theory about Gus dying and Walt being the poisoner actually ended up being right. I never call stuff like that. I also can't believe that I forgot about Jane. Thanks for the reminder, Jess.

Mixed emotions on the finale. Well done for the most part, although Gus' killing, and the method, was pretty predictable following the meeting with the DEA. I was hoping Gus would make it through the season, mostly because he is one of the best characters on the show, but I understand taking him out here. Curious to see what role Mike plays in the next season, if he is around at all.
Also, I can't wait to find out why the Cartel was scared to kill Gus. It's going to be glorious.
I thought they just didn't want to kill him because it would mess up their distribution in the Southwest. I must have missed where they said there was another reason.
When Hank went to look into his past, he found there's no record of Fring before 1989 (when he came to the US via Mexico).
Mike said, when Gus was worried about Hank kicking rocks around in his past, "if I can't find anything from before 1989, no one can".
And the most telling reason: When Don Eladio killed Gus' partner Max (or had Hector kill him, whatever), he said the only reason Gus wasn't killed was because of "who he is".
Basically, whatever is bad enough to frighten a Mexican drug cartel out of killing a low-level meth producer & dealer from Chile must be reallllllly bad.

OK, I remember that now. Thanks. Yeah, season 5 is going to be the bee's knees.
Working my way through the series. Mid-way through Season 2. Absolutely incredible show. Perfect acting. Perfect writing. Perfect WTF moments. Just witnessed the tortoise/severed head/bomb scene. Holy shit. And that comes after the episode where they crush a guy's head with an ATM.
^ yeah i just finished the series the other week. after Walking Dead ended, i needed a new tv fix and my friends have been hammering on about Breaking Bad for as long as i can remember. found a site that hosted the whole series and got hooked instantly. best written show on cable television. period.

It only gets better. I rank the seasons in reverse order and I'm hoping 5 tops the list. But imo season 4 > 3 > 2 > 1

I'm 2/3 of the way through season 4 and it's freaking awesome. I can't believe I'm saying this but it actually seems even darker than the others. Also, they have done some really exceptional things with directing and editing this season (loving the use of extremely long takes).

I definitely agree that the last season was the darkest. I won't get into details because I'm not sure where you are, exactly, but it definitely takes a turn to negative town. Walt is basically battling his inner demons and facing the effects of his decisions in previous seasons. As one would expect, those effects are not exactly positive. Just wait until the end, your head will explode.
I can't wait for season 5. Like... I have no idea what they're even going to do but at the same time I still feel like so much needs to happen in reaction the the season 4 finale that it would take up an entire season on its own.
That final scene with Gus this song playing in the background still gives me chills:

SPOILER ALERT
Exactly. The whole reasoning behind the cartel not killing Gus in the flashback HAS to come out now. I mean, Walt crossed a threshold that I don't even think he knows existed.
During my fantasy football league with my close friends I started using the youtube clip of Walt sneering "...I won" into the phone after the season finale. I don't know if this is coincidence, or what, but once I started using that clip in league emails every week, I didn't lose again. Won the entire league. Walt is such a badass MF'er that he turned my struggling fantasy football team into a juggernaut.

this really is the only way i feel they can go at this point. it's the only way the stakes can really be raised for a final season. that along with Hank finally figuring everything out. and Walt's cancer coming back with a vengeance.
