Going to Coachella it kind of sucks that both fests have the same hip hop. But if the Roots play with PE here that will be EPIC. Since I will probably catch then at Roo that opens up some possible conflicts though at Coachella and that's never a bad thing.
I'm excited. Their one of a handful of artists that I've been into for fifteen plus years that I've never seen. Granted, it's not like seeing them in their prime but I'll bet that they still bring the noise...
I'm a huge P.E. fan, but didn't have high expectations for their "It Takes a Nation of Millions" set last year at Pitchfork. I was very pleasantly surprised. Everyone but Flav seems to be taking things pretty seriously and pretty on top of things. Flav was entertaining, not nearly the trainwreck that I've read about at some shows. He was clearly lip-synching at a few points and ideally would be a little more with it, but basically he provided the contrast and balance he has always provided the group.
It was a very good (not great) show featuring A+ material. I consider this add a plus, although it may not be a high priority since I've seen them recently.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I love hip hop, but didn't get into it until the mid-to-late 90's, so I don't know as much about groups or MCs that started before that. What specific PE songs should i check out?
I think a lot of negative reviews regarding PE have as much to do with bad PA systems and sound guys who just don't handle hip/hop shows well as it does the group. Bonnaroo's never really had major problems doing sound for hip/hop sets so I don't expect it to be a problem.
Will definitely try to check these guys out if the stars align schedule wise.
