you don't think a saturday late night conflict between phish-nin?
that would hurt. i really....REALLY want to see both phish shows.......but without knowing who will go against them in a late night show really makes it tough
I can assure you with 100% certainty that as of last week it was Beasties into Phish Friday, Bruce Saturday, Phish Sunday. This is from someone high in Superfly. Its certainly possible that this could have/will change at some point, but that was how it was set

i believe it. that is actually what i have in my fake schedule now.
From a logistical standpoint, Having Phish play friday and Sunday will maximize Bonnaroo's profits with concessions.
Why? Because there is a large contingent of Phish fans who will not show up until the band is ready to play their first note. This same contingent will also leave when they play their final note. I know it is ridiculous, but many many Phish fans do not have interest in going to Bonnaroo for 4 days, they are only coming for Phish. They will buy tickets, beer, concessions once there, but given the choice, they'd leave early or show up late, because, to them, seeing Phish is more important than anything. Stick these people in Manchester with nothing to do on a saturday except Bonnaroo, and they will be forced to stay. Everyone who stays an extra day is another dollar to be earned.
For this reason alone, the Phish Friday late night/Sunday Headliner rumor is the one with legs.
I really doubt Bonnaroo is worried about "concessions sales". Most of the vendors pay the festival a fee to be able to vend. I would imagine this is a fixed rate, with maybe a small variable portion given back to the festival. The festival generates revenue from "ticket sales", and are probably more focused on getting people in and out without any major problems, thus, making Springsteen the most logical choice to close.
p.s. I didn't think wookies bought concessions anyways...

WRONG. Bonnaroo gets a cut of ALL vendor sales. They have even explored using "bonnaroo debit cards" in order to maximize their profits in this regard. This idea was shot down, but they actually went so far as to poll the audience prior to the 2007 festival to see how reaction would be. $6 Beers, you don't think Bonnaroo is making money for every cup of beer that says "Bonnaroo" on it?
I think you are crazy if you think Bonnaroo wants people to leave early or show up late. As someone who owns and runs a business, when your business model exists for 4 days out of the year, you need to maximize the profits while you can. They want you there for 3 or 4 days, guzzling beers, and eating vendor food.

If they want to keep everybody there until the end on sunday to maximize profits why has that not been the case the past years. I agree that AC Superfly is a business and there biggest revenue stream is this one 4 day period out of the year. People leave sunday regardless of the final act most of the time. Also lots of phish fans get pretty quacked at a phish show on corn does AC Superfly want all those phish driving home sunday after the show? I also don't think that Phish fans paying full ticket price will just show up right before Phish then leave and not enjoy the fest only to come back for phish. I'm sure most phish fans are fans of David Byrne, I know how stubborn Phish fans can be about loving phish over any band but that doesn't mean a majority of phish fans don't love other kinds of music and won't be interested in seeing other music when Phish is not playing and all the music is going on. Yes this year a majority of the concert goers will be phish heads I am a phish head but I am also a bonnaroo head and have been for all 7 years the festival has been around.

words of wisdom. i think its going down friday night and sunday night as well. it only makes the most sense. and that being said the rumor has been long before phish was announced as headliner for roo that phish would rip into roo friday latenight and then close out the festival.

I don't think there is going to be any real scheduling going on until they are ready to do so...most of the bands are just reserving their slot for the Roo weekend...comprehende? Meaning is...I think we will get our schedule in March... or at least hope so...cuz that will benefit me and you and the bands...why would they schedule everything right now? That would just suck.

I'm a phish fan and have been to all 7 Bonnaroos as well. FOR THE RECORD, I would prefer Phish to play on consecutive nights, preferably friday and saturday, and have the Boss close. I am not a Bruce Springsteen Fan, and I would definitely LEAVE the fesitval on Sunday night before he plays. I talked to everyone in my crew, and we are in agreement, If Bruce closes, we bounce.
I don't think there is going to be any real scheduling going on until they are ready to do so...
The schedule is malleable up until the point it is released (and in Kanye's case, afterwards), BUT, Ashley Capps did come out in an interview a few years ago explaining how Bonnaroo gets booked.
HE says they start with a schedule grid, and start filling in bands. They try to give each stage a certain flow, and vibe. They try to group genres, and have bands that "fit" together. They do all this AS they are booking the bands. SO, the schedule is pre-determined well before the lineup is even announced, though I'm sure it changes a little between the lineup announcement and the schedule announcement.
edit: obviously this is the only way bands like MGMT can list "5:00 on Saturday" on their myspace at this stage in the game.
If you also consider the tours that many of these acts are doing, they need to know well in advance of at least the specific day they are playing, so they can coordinate other dates and travel plans. Some of these bands may hang around Roo for the weekend, but I would guess most come in, play their set, maybe stick around for the night, and then peace out the following day, continuing on with their tour/lives. I think the schedule is predominately set as of now, granted a few changes may occur....thank you kanye
Not a confirmation, but with Roo moving off Fathers Day weekend, what holiday is the previous Sunday?
Flag Day on Sunday
What artist would be most associated with Flag Day, Patriotism, Born in the USA,
OOPS, let slip my guess. Look back at who broke the Springsteen story and see what they are saying.
For Bruce to leave Europe for a US gig, what better artist on Flag Day. I really don't care, but in my opinion, he seems like a good artist to close.
I think Bruce will play Sunday but it has nothing to do with Flag Day. Despite what the masses think, Born in the USA is not a freakin patriotic song by any means. It's a protest song about the treatment of Vietnam Vets by the country they went off to die for....it's just cloaked by the chorus and music.

yeah good call. its not really a patriotic song at all. i think reagan and some other politicians have tried to use it on their campaign trail. who in the sam hell gives a damn about flag day, btw??
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
first off - femi said on his blog he was doing a late night. myspace dates are mostly accurate but the times are usually a little wack. i think its awesome he'll be doing a late night but yeah conflicts galore. he's one of those artists that could work awesome in the day or night.
2nd - please please please can we keep this thread for schedule confirmations only....we can start a thread for the bruce/phish sunday closer debate. i keep checking this thread for more confirmations and all i see is "bruce will close because blah blah blah" or "phish deserves to close because blah blah blah". we wont know until one of them gives us a date or until the schedule comes out.

yes, please. i already asked for the discussions/arguments to be kept out of this thread. but that request was obviously ignored.
as far as phish/the late nights. maybe they will announce that before the on sale?

I really hope Grizzly Bear is truly on Thursday. I'm really looking forward to seeing them, and they'll be less likely to conflict with anyone I wanna see if they play on the first day.
