I think that the above is a great example of how factual information can be used to spin things either way. While I dont see anything that my "learnin" says is factually incorrect it is indeed quite misleading.
Here are some examples of spin: 1 - That retaliating to Germany invading sovereign nations and invading a country that was ruled by a dictator are the same thing. 2 - That no one protested Vietnam. 3 - That people dont believe dropping atomic bombs on civillians was horrific. 4 - That US published figures of combat related killings are comparable to crime statistics. 5 - That Iraq was "taken" in 51 days.
Thanks guys - the one place I did not have to really deal with Bush bashing and now I have this - just made this day even better for me - I really appreciate it.
I will support Obama because he is our elected President and he deserves the country's support. he has a long hard road ahead of him.
BUT - while you are all bashing on Bush - I want you to remember one thing - think about how difficult it is to try and make a decision that will effect millions of people and try to make the right decision - you can't because the decision will not always be the right thing for ALL of the people.
I'm done with Inforoo for the day now - ya'll have a great day - I'll see you tomorrow
You must be kidding...are you honestly trying to cut Bush some slack? After how he dragged this country through the muck. After all his piss poor and I might add bordering on illegal decisions and actions he has done over the past 8 years. Oh yes and lets not forget his 'ranch' in TX that he was going to retire to, big cowboy that Georgie real down to earth back home earthy kind of a guy...You know the one he's sold for the condo in the city. Even something as trivial as this he lies about..all just for show that ahole. goodbye, good riddence, and go away
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
No, president-elects become presidents at noon on January 20th - even if the oath is not taken. That's in the 20th Amendment. CNN even mentioned that, even though he hadn't taken the oath, Obama became president at noon. So he was technically already president as he took the oath.
I'm pretty sure that the previous president is no longer president at noon and the president-elect becomes president when he takes the oath. There's debate about who is technically president between 12:00 pm and the oath, but there's never been a situation to actually test it.
Amendment 20, Section 1. The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.
Debate? That language seems pretty straightforward to me. Not to mention that there is absolutely no reference to an oath in the entirety of that amendment.
Since you like Leonard Pitts, I thought you might like this quote I found:
Obama "is a black man with a Muslim name who would be seeking the presidency in a historically racist nation currently at war against Muslim extremists. One wonders if there is enough handsomeness, intelligence and charisma in the world to overcome all that." Leonard Pitts, Miami Herald, Jan. 19, 2007.
I've never been so happy to see a VP and Pres. exit the stage.
I usually try to be diplomatic and say things like "cut the guy some slack", but I don't think I can this time. The amount of damage that has been done to the Constitution is sickening. The eradication of Habeus Corpus could have effects for generations. And our reputation around the world is tarnished beyond recognition.
I felt like a kid at Christmas yesterday morning. God bless Obama!!

But until the president officially takes the oath, he is technically not the president.
Cheney was rolled out because he stated he hurt is back loading boxes while moving. You know that they had people moving for him. He was moving boxes of evidence to the incinerator!

You're still wrong.
A presidential term begins at 12pm on January 20th, from the 20th Amendment.
The 20th amendment supercedes the Article II mandate for an oath on the January 20th following a presidential election. Taking the oath on January 20th is simply tradition at this point.
When a VP ascends to the presidency, the oath is mandated because it is a transition of power within that four-year term.
I'm the opposite of moderate, immaculately polished With the spirit of a hustler and the swagger of a college kid Allergic to the counterfeit, impartial to the politics Articulate but still would grab a ni**a by the colla quick

That is correct. The newly-elected President could recite "Hickory Dickory Dock" at the inauguration and he would still be the official Pres.

I've gotta get something out of this Political Science degree... Lords knows it isn't making me any money yet.

I feel as though Obama has already done more good in his two days in office than Bush did in 8 years there. Clearly this is a very biased opinion, but seriously the fact remains that Obama is doing shit. Hadn't Bush already taken some vacation days by now or something?
John Glenn (DEMOCRAT) said this ----- It should make us all think a little:
There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January. In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January. That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq.
When some claim that President Bush shouldn't have started this war, tell them the following :
FDR (DEMOCRAT) led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us; Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost ... an average of 112,500 per year.
Truman (DEMOCRAT) finished that war and started one in Korea. North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ... an average of 18,334 per year.
John F. Kennedy (DEMOCRAT) started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us.
Johnson (DEMOCRAT) turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost ... an average of 5,800 per year.
Clinton (DEMOCRAT) went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent. Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions. (Think about what else was going on during that time in the C linton Whitehouse!!)
This one is a fact that makes me mad as hell.
In the years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and, North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. And the Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking.
But Wait, There's more.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno (DEMOCRAT) to take the Branch Davidian compound. That was a 51-day operation ..
We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton (DEMOCRAT) to find the Rose law firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!! TWICE!
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts. < FONT face=Tahoma color=black size=4>But Wait ....There's more!
JOHN GLENN (on the Senate floor - January 26, 2004)
Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a living.
This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military.
Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn): 'How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?'
Senator Glenn (D-Ohio): 'I served 23 years in the U nited States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time o ff to take the daily cash receipts to the bank. I ask you to go with me, as I went the other day . .. to a veteran's hospital and look those men ... with their mangled bodies ... in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job!
You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee ... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DAD'S didn't hold a job.
You go with me on Memorial Day a nd you stand in Arlingto n National Cemetery , where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags ... You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you have the gall to tell ME that those people didn't have a job? What about Metzenbaum? For those who don't remember During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA .
Now he's a Senator!
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a Veteran.
keep in mind, i hate wars and all that nonsense, but, think about the other wars (democrat led) to the republican war
also keep in mind this was sent to me by a very republican boss of mine
smite if you want, do not care
agree 100%, and not ashamed to admit it...is stated in the past, i did not agree with bush on a lot, but i seriously do not understand all the hate...obama spoke of bi-partisanship, well how the hell does one achieve this when at the inauguration people start chanting "nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, goodbye" (im refering to the song that many began chanting for those that have no clue)
lets not forget what lowry (i think thats his name, the person who did the benediction after the inauguration, just paraphrasing, "where black isnt sent to the back, where brown can stick around, where yellow is more mellow, where the red man can get ahead man, and where white embraces what is right"
now when is the last time anyone ever saw a black man enter a bus, and was told to sit in the back (those days are done with, stop hating for something that happened decades ago), and the one that im surprised no one has mentioned (but since like 95% of everyone here drank the obama juice, its not really that surprising)...the fact that he said "let white embrace what is right"...now im not white, but i took offense to that comment...this dude, and many who think like him, are living in the days of segregation and cannot let go...kind of like obamas ex-pastor
also, how about the guy who is going to be the head of the irs...how about his little hiccup?...Lord knows that had it been a republican, there would not have been such a thing as a HICCUP...i could be wrong, but didnt the irs and the media go crazy when they found out that joe the plumber owed some taxes...they practically crucified him
lets also not forget the sloppiness of sandy burger (might be misspelled), and when he stuffed very important documents in his shoes, underwear, socks, etc
last little note...hamas has already stated that obama has started to make mistakes...that already tells the mentality these extremists have...they are not willing to compromise...hamas, hezbollah, and iran all want israel wiped off the face of the earth/driven into the red sea...now tell me what obama is going to say to the leaders of these groups/countries that think this way...iran denies the holocaust even happened...most muslims do not see jews as people, but as mere pigs for the slaughter...however, lets go stick some flowers in their hair, give them hula hoops, hold their hands and sing kumbya (might be misspelled) because, maybe, just maybe, they'll be moved and decide that all the centuries of hate towards israel was wasted emotion and pointless...beep beep beep, damn, my alarm just went off--what a beautiful dream
now before everyone makes the assumption that i am not for peace, believe me, i would love for that last part to happen...however, im a realist and know that the muslims (not all, or most) will never come to peace with israel, because thats the way its been forever...its in their religion

let the smiting begin!!!
Thank you Always nice to know that I am not alone around here
I began to write a long post/rant, but decided not to. Let me just say if you can look past Enron, 9/11, the war in Iraq, massive deregulation and economic collapse in the private and public sectors, you are a true believer and there's little use talking about Bush one way or the other with you.
I grew in North Dallas. My dad taught the Mrs. Cheney and Bush in classical literature classes. I have friends who were family friends with the Bushes. I know business associates of the Cheneys and the Bushes. One could argue post-Enron, Dallas is the heart of Bush support. I was for Bush in '00. I was for Kerry in 04 (but didn't vote), largely based on the sinking feeling that Bush was not the right man for the job. I voted Obama in 08, not because I think he's going to save our souls or turn the country around. I disagree with much of his political ideology. But when the neocons trotted Palin up as the VP, it was Bush all over again, and I didn't want a part of that. Most conservative Obama voters I know voted Obama because of Palin not Obama.
At the heart of my opposition to Bush and happiness that he's gone is this: I knew the source of the man's financial support. I grew up with their kids. I know their dirty laundry. I see their indifference to social injustice. These are men who call themselves patriots and care nothing about America. They care about the ideology that allows them to buy what they want and run their businesses without being bothered by concerns of their communities. You want to tax them? They'll move to another suburb and build their own houses.
These are men who generally don't give a shit about anything but the bottom line.
So I think maybe it's time we have a different voice in office instead of one of their golfing buddies who's only got to be president because his dad stole some land to build the Rangers a new stadium in Arlington.
IThey care about the ideology that allows them to buy what they want and run their businesses without being bothered by concerns of their communities.
and what is wrong with this...one makes money to provide for their needs and desires...if one should own a business, it should be THEIR responsibility of how to run it, not government
I lived in New Orleans during Katrina. Bush's lack of action in this event was a national digrace.
sure this was not a good moment for bush, but lets not forget the other leaders...nagin (mayor of new orleans) knew that a powerful hurrican was on its way, and he did nothing...there are pictures of school and city buses underwater...all those vehicles could have been ordered by nagin to take people away to safety, but instead they were underwater...also, it was reported that MANY (NOT ALL) people given some sort of financial help spent their money on big screen tvs, tattoos, jewelery, etc...they are the people saying that bush didnt help them, but when help was given it was squandered away on trivial things
sorry for the multiple posts, but i am unaware of how to quote multiple quotes in one post
dude you can totally avoid that problem now! Suddenly all the republicans on inforoo can voice their opinions in peace! ;D
as stated before, i am not republican...however, i am more conservative than many of you..also, i didnt drink the obama juice and believe all the horse sh*t
anybody hear on tv that one obama-supporter said something to the effect of "if i cant pay my mortgage, obamas gonna pay it. if i cant pay for gas, obamas gonna pay for it."...just goes to show the ignorance of some of his supporters (im not refering to anyone on here, unless you believe obama is going to pay your mortgage and gas)
(im not refering to anyone on here, unless you believe obama is going to pay your mortgage and gas)
You mean he ain't!
Damn, I got to go ask for my job back. I quit on 1-20-09 at 12:00 PM
He has said repeatedly that we are going to have to batten down the hatches, because we are in for a rough ride. I believe him. If others don't they are fools.
