had a dream last night about phish at roo. i went to the stage early (which wasn't a stage, just an empty space in the woods) and no one else was there, but they had set up a gigantic tire swing into a lake and some sprinkler type things, pretty weird. also radiohead was on a different stage before that and they had me help out on drums.

i had a dream a few weeks ago that i was at Phish at Bonnaroo and it was amazing. all i remember is everyone was really surprised with the songs they played. then later on i saw Mike and Trey in the internet cafe blogging and talking trash anonymously on PT. that dream was awesome
"Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience and rebellion that progress has been made." Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900), The Soul of Man Under Socialism
"You're either on the bus or off the bus." Ken Kesey
"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." Hunter S. Thompson
I think people try too hard to get it. Phish is a band you have to lend your ear to. Give it time, tune in, let it be an experience... If its for you, you'll come back time and time again. If not, you'll move on...
i agree with this. the simple fact is that phish is not for everyone. some hear it and don't have a particularly strong reaction, or don't even like it, some hear it and hooked. lucidinterval's advice to tune in, really listen, give it time, and allow yourself to feel the music and the experience as it happens is the best way to get phish. don't overthink. they are just a band, but the rewards can be great.
having said that, if you're looking for a place to start i agree that a dvd is a good way to go.
ps one more thing. never be afraid to dance. respect those around you, but dance your ass off
i think it has to be live to really make a decision on whether or not you like them. i've said it a few times on this thread, but again, i did not like phish at all, maybe a couple songs i enjoyed, but on a whole i would not have said i liked them. that was until i went to my first show and within about 30 seconds of down with disease and i was hooked. so even if you can't get into their studio/live/dvds you still need to get to a show at some point to make a final decision. and i can't think of anyone that i've met who has seen them and doesn't like them.

I'm lovin this version of "Fast Enough For You" from Noblesville 8/13/96. Trey guitar sounds breathtaking amazing in the last 3 1/2 minutes or so.....so prettyful.

My personal favorite.
I was there on the lawn. That was one of the best runs I ever saw, 4 nights of Red Rocks and then headed to Deer Creek for 2 nights!
