Barry Can't Swim was a lot of fun last night. I've been in a pretty terrible mood lately with having to move apartments, my all-time favorite boss leaving and feeling a general sense of "Why the fuck do I still work in a corporate restaurant on the goddamn Amazon campus?" Being surrounded by a few hundred house-lovers like myself and getting bumped into in a hot, sweaty, dark room by myself was precisely what I needed.
Also, shout-out to the young El-P on ecstasy looking dude near me using shazam for track ids mid-show.

Im seeing Umphreys this weekend and just had a question out of curiosity. Im in Philly and LN opened up brooklyn bowl literally connected to the fillmore for acts that arent quite big enough for the fillmore. Before BB opened a few years ago umph was doing 3 night runs at the fillmore. But, 2 years ago they played just one night at BB, last year did 2 at the fillmore, and this year its 2 at BB. any idea how the booking is so all over the place?

Really good weekend of music. Saw Amtrac and Tourist on Friday. Second time seeing Amtrac and he did not disappoint. Has to be one of the most underrated DJs/producers. “Nobody Else” is so fun live. Was my first time seeing Tourist and it was more trancey than I thought it was going to be. It was good, but not what I was expecting.
Saw DJ Holographic snd Shermanology early last night and they both killed it. Amazing energy and track selection. Then went to see Lilly Palmer and holy shit, she was locked in. Exactly the kind of techno that I like and her stage presence is fantastic. Hiriko Yamamura was also awesome.

last week i saw foxing and the hotelier on their co-headlining tour. i was there for foxing (this was my first time seeing them) and tbh had not heard of the hotelier until this tour was announced back in the fall. foxing was fantastic but they went on first, which i think was to their detriment. since the album they played was not quite as energetic, the crowd was very tame; even when they started playing their harder stuff there was no pit. i wish it had been the other way around because the hotelier had a very intense pit the entire time and it would have been a good warm up. overall had a great time, just wish the crowd vibes were different.
that being said i abhor co-headlining tours and i hope the next foxing tour is them as solo headliners

what did you think of the hotelier? home like noplace is there is my fav album of all time tbh and while i really like foxing, i felt like the albatross aged a little poorly. saying this as someone who saw them both touring these records back when they released as well. It could also be that foxing feels uncomfortable playing their early stuff now because its so far removed from their new direction

i think aged poorly was the wrong choice of words on my part. i think what i meant is that it was just awkward for a full album coheadline show. if it was just foxing alone it would have felt more cohesive but it was jarring going from at atmospheric, post-rock vibe to anthemic cathartic punk-emo

Umph rocked on Friday, def shouldve been in the bigger venue but I was very impressed with the production even on the smaller scale they had. 2nd set was one of my favs ever.
also saw poolside for the first time outside of a festival and they were terrific. really set the vibes just right and everyone was really going with it,

theyre really good post brexit post-punk. If you enjoy BCNR, black midi, even IDLES to an extent you will like them
Go see Brittany Howard this tour. Her and her band of absolute all stars destroyed the 9:30 club last night. Everything is so perfectly dialed in, can’t recommend enough, too much fun.

echoing this with vigor! They tried to rebuild the 9:30 today but Brittany just came and tore it back down! So much fun, so enjoyable seeing the way they juxtapose the pacing of each of her albums against each other while never going too high or too low

Saw Feist last night for the 5th time, and it was very different than any previous time I'd seen her. Equally bizarre and captivating.
The first 75 minutes were acoustic, but she spent less than half that time playing songs. It was largely humorous banter, storytelling, and reading from a journal she "found" in the crowd while someone with a camera went through the audience and projected footage and effects onto the curtain. The interactive element was neat, but you could tell people were getting antsy as it went on, especially as it became evident that the seemingly improvised bits were all scripted.
The next hour was like a normal Feist show as she brought out the full band, which if you've seen her before, you know fucking ripped. "The Water" and "Let It Die" were nice surprises. She spent some time in the crowd, where I realized she's a shrimp - I'd always thought she was taller than me!
One final thing I realized is how she's avoided becoming a nostalgia act - she asked the audience to choose between picking an old song and a new song, and people picked the new one! I don't think anyone even cared that "1234" was relegated to only half the song in the acoustic section. So I think the innovative production is a testament to how she keeps herself fresh well past her more mainstream days, even when not everything about it works.

My favorite show I saw last year. All I knew going in was that it was “in the round”. When the curtain dropped over halfway through, it felt like the ultimate surprise. I would have been totally content if it was just the acoustic portion, but like you said, her and the band ripped.

I was there last night too and I also got free tickets! They were soo good, its cool seeing them tighter with their live show since I saw them at the same venue a few years ago. and your friend has the worst take on them lol Cake? really? because they have a trumpet?? get new friends asap

Nation of Language are great and a lot of fun but they would be about 28% better with a live drummer and maybe one more guitarist/keyboardist. Still an excellent show.

I didn't see them this run, but 100% agree. It confuses me why they don't have one with how well connected they are in the music scene here.

The Wailin' Jennys are one of those all timers for me that I figured I would just never get to see. I got lucky and they were doing one of a few spring shows in Chandler, AZ when I was in Phoenix.
They're really personable on stage, and then as soon as they start singing the whole place is just enraptured.
They closed with Parting Glass, as close as they could get to the front of the stage. No mics, just their 3 voices.
Mesmerizing, except for the one person across the theater that couldn't stop hacking up a lung. I always wonder what would happen to those people in a stealth situation. Like if a raptor was after you could you stifle a cough?? If so maybe try a little harder when musical genius is happening in front of you.

It wasn't Beyonce or Taylor, but it was a pretty darn great spectacle. I enjoy her catalogue - the show led me to revisiting of the Ray of Light album during my commute today - but would describe myself as a casual fan at best. This was my second time seeing her, having somehow been selected to be able to buy a cheap seat for that run of Wiltern shows on her last tour. Wild she's still doing this at 65 *and* not that long removed from almost dying. I'd have tweaked a couple of things in the setlist (No "Like a Virgin" on the tour about 40 years of Madonna as a pop star?), but I'd say it is worth seeing, if only to say you did whenever the critics and complainers don't have Madonna Louise Ciccone to kick around anymore.
SPRINTS opened their US tour here in Seattle last night at this 300 person venue and they fucking ripped. Great energy. The crowd took a bit to get fully into it (as often happens here for whatever reason), especially with the demo being older Seattle folks at first, but once the people in the back started making their way in, the band started feeling it and the building started rocking.
Extra funny shout out to the lead singer leaving the stage and coming back saying, "We're Irish, we have to drink," while passing around a bottle of Jäger.
