Damn it. That's what I was thinking too. It's unfortunate bc he has a bunch and nails them in general.
My best guess at an Orville festival setlist: Summertime/Roses are Falling/Turn to Hate/No Glory in the West/Big Sky/Nothing Fades Like the Light/Drive Me Crazy/Queen of the Rodeo/Legends Never Die/Take You Back/Born This Way
(But also, it’ll be identical to whatever he plays at Lolla in an hour.)

Caroline Polachek/Alex G last night was my first "proper" show back (not counting a work event a few months ago). I'm not terribly familiar with either's music despite having seen Chairlift a couple times, but it was the first appealing show on the Greek Theater calendar and I'm still only trusting outdoor venues for the time being. Caroline was great and had some fun guests. Alex wasn't quite my thing, but a ton of people were there just for him. All in all, a nice laid-back show to ease my way back into gig-going.
I don't have anything else lined up until September, so hopefully more cities and venues start rolling out vax requirements by then.

I see there was a guest appearance by Charli XCX? Nice.

Sounds like a good time. That was supposed to be my first show back too, but something came up and I couldn't go.
My first show back will be end of next month, and I hope nothing gets cancelled until then lol

Yep, and Christine and the Queens, which I was more excited about haha
saw Patti Smith tonight; sadly, the show had to evacuate halfway through due to a severe thunderstorm. But as always, she still sounds great and she did a couple Dylan covers and she sounds better singing them than Dylan does now. But more importantly: she had a lot of choice stage banter quotes, which luckily I had the good sense to write down in my Notes app:
"I didn't realize how good this was going to feel until I stepped in the porta potty, which was fantastic."
"I'm like an anime character."
"I stopped to piss in two separate McDonald's bathrooms so I am ready to kill."
"I'm sorry, I screwed up the one part where there's a dog barking in it. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll do it again."

She put on a Fantastic show. Was impressed with Gregory Alan izakov as well
"I'm sorry I spit on the stage. It's been 18 months since I spit on the stage & I swore I'd never do it again. But I'm not a man; I clean up my own messes." -goes and grabs a towel

looked like a fun crowd outside the Sinclair when I biked by last night, glad you had fun!
I was going to write a lot of words on Sleater-Kinney and the weirdness of Corin and Carrie trying to have chemistry with their backing band when they only clearly have chemistry with each other, but I decided against that because it would all distract from an even more unsettling truth: Sleater-Kinney is basically one step away from being a jam band now.

Went to Wonderbus festival in Columbus last night. Leah Kate was a fun new poppy artist for me, think less angsty and more funny Avril Lavigne with lots of cussing. She was so happy to be on the stage and has a really good rapport with the crowd.
Also saw The Band Camino and had not been into them based on streaming or planned to see them at Bonnaroo, but they were a fun daytime festival set.
Main event was Ke$ha and she was a goddess. I didn’t realize there were so many Ke$ha songs I knew. She moved so much, tons of dancing, played guitar, and it was a blast.
I will say we got into the crowd for Ke$ha and I was wearing one of verrrrry few masks. Entry rules had been vaxx card or negative test OR you wear a mask, so different than Roo and I was self conscious people would think I had neither since I had the mask on. I know we have lots of discussion elsewhere about whether folks plan to wear one outside/in crowds/etc so not trying to start the debate here but figured I’d share since I was curious what the masking at a festival set would look like with Delta happening. Crowd was younger than I’d expected for Ke$ha too, thought I’d see more mid-30s moms like me!

damn, do I gotta rewrite Survivor?
Sleater-Kinney jams just as much as Ween does now on incredibly random songs (like “Modern Girl” for some reason??) so………yeah :/

I was just coming over to say I caught the last two dates of the tour Buffalo in person and Chicago via Stream and I was so impressed with this Sleater Kinney lineup maybe it’s because I went in with low expectations. But I thought they were really great. Maybe it’s because it was end of tour and they had figured a groove out. I left the last tour with St Vincent’s Keyboard player joining them and Angie something or another on drums and was fairly underwhelmed.
In regards to jamming this was my 5th SK show and I have always known them to Jam and extend songs live. Maybe they’re doing it ever so slightly more but not a lot.
My biggest takeaway from attending Buffalo and watching the Chicago show is how shitty some Wilco fans are to other bands. I’ve never experienced that at a purely Wilco show. But SK had crappy attendance for both dates and at the Chicago gig Carrie literally told the SK fans to come down front because the sitting people (who were clearly Wilco folks) didn’t care.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly

Okay, now I'm going to write the long version of what I was getting at, lol. I want to start off by saying that I don't think the jamming portions were bad or unwelcome: they were interesting, for the most part. I still think a song like "Modern Girl" doesn't need it, but songs like "What's Yours Is Mine" or most of Path of Wellness are practically built for it; I think they would've gone for it more if they hadn't been limited by a strict 70 minute set time. And I've also seen SK quite a few times too, but it felt like they were leaning in to it more tonight; again, I think it's because that's just how the new album sounds (again, not a bad thing in my book!). It was almost like getting glimpses into an alternate universe where Janet stayed with the band, they made Path of Wellness anyway, and the live show got a lot crazier.
But, unfortunately, the band is what kind of lost me. I think it's a bit hard to compare the two bands since the overall sound on the last tour was a lot more angular, to use a word that I hate, than this one is; I think Toko Yasuda fit in better sound-wise with the last tour and probably wouldn't have so much this tour. But I really like Angie Boylan as a Janet Weiss replacement because she came across as quite charismatic; since she played on the new album I was hopefuly she'd come on this tour but I guess not. I was sitting on the lawn, which is basically flat, so it wasn't always easy to see what was going on, but from what I could see as well as bits of previous streams I'd seen before, it seems like there was a weird contrast between Carrie and Corin doing all their standard moves and the rest of the band just not reacting at all. It felt like there were two different bands on stage at times.
My other criticism which I've mentioned before I'm still not sold on the setlists. Yeah, they have to promote the new album, yes they played five songs off The Woods, yes adding "One Beat" is a nice treat, blah blah blah and I know they're opening on this tour. All I ask is that when they do headline shows again that they do at least a 90 second "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" since they're already playing the new songs at a breakneck speed (again, not that I really mind!).
And re: Wilco fans, I don't have much to say again since I was on the lawn (worth noting though that the lawn was full when Sleater-Kinney came on!). But, a kind of funny story: I'm not not one to judge people for phone use at a concert, but I was sitting next to a family of four, two parents and two kinds, one teenage girl and one 11-12 ish boy. They were clearly not into Sleater-Kinney; the mom and daughter stayed behind on the blanket and laid down on their phones the whole show while the dad and son spent 45 minutes waiting in line to get food. So, obviously, they're Wilco fans. Whatever. But then, even more weirdly: Wilco came on and both parents were staring at their phones for a solid 15 minutes after Wilco started!! They got more engaged as the show went on but still it was very, very bizarre I thought.
Sometimes I wonder why people come to shows. Like all the people on the lawn at MMJ talking constantly. I just wanted to yell at them to go to the bar. Like literally all you want to do is get together and talk. Put MMJ on in the background in the bar. So I don’t have to hear you fucking talking through Golden and Dondante.

that’s how I felt about Bonny light horseman’s show yesterday. It was fantastic other than 2 idiots that showed up late to their pre reserved table and talked really loudly through the quiet folk show before leaving early

Crowd was ass at Charlotte show on the lawn. Thank god Roo is this weekend.

I feel like cheap lawn seats at amphitheaters specifically attract people who just want to talk and be there for the vibes, rather than the music.
Gotta say I'm anxious for Roo about having to deal with people talking through shows again. Gonna have to get good again at polite confrontations.
I went to a show yesterday and it ended at 10. That was nice, I wish more shows ended a little earlier. Those Midnight drives down 95 from Boston get a little rougher as I get older.
Cloud Nothings played for 1 hr 15 min, which I wish was a little longer. But they were good. It was wicked loud.

That’s why if I I’m going to an amphitheater show for an act I’m really into, I try to avoid lawn/GA seats. It seems like a good percentage of those who get lawn seats for summer amphitheater shows are just looking to catch up with friends while catching the 2-3 songs they know going into the show.
We were fortunate - I didn’t even plan to go Friday when I woke up. I had some work circumstances that allowed us to get on the road fairly early, saw the forecast was calling for no rain, and orchestra seats were only $35-40 on Stubhub. We were 4 rows behind the pit.
