Anyone going to any of the seemingly endless activities happening that week? I went thru the entire official schedule and also went thru a huge list of daytime and free shows happening. I made a schedule of the things that interest me. I dont have a wristband and I'm still going to be able to hit up a ton of stuff between Wednesday and Saturday. Hit me up if you are going to any shows and want to hang. these are a few "gems" I found:
Wednesday 12th: FADER Magazine Show starring Grand Ole Party--i think it's free starts at noon
This Bike Is a Pipe bomb @ Flamingo Cantina starts at 9pm
Grand Ole Party and Black Keys at Emos starts at 11pm
Thursday 13th Langhorne Slim/O'Death on south First for FREE starts at noon
Body of War: Tom Morello/Serj Tankian and friends at Stubbs starts at 7pm
Mark Kozelek at C.P. Church at midnight
Friday 14th Black Keys at Zona Rosa during the day starts at noon
Nouvellas at Friends. they played last year as the Dansettes. 7pm start
Langhorne Slim at Club Deville--11pm start
North Mississippi All Stars at Opal Devines--1 am show
Saturday 15th Langhorne Slim/Grand Ole Party/J. Garafalo/Breeders at waterloo park for free starts at noon

a couple of my friends are in a band that will be playing at Irie Bean Coffee House on march 14 at 11:30am. the lead singer/guitarist is Russell Huie, and his bassist is Bryan Williams. they are a couple of the best muscians you'll ever see.
while i'd love to some day make it out to SXSW, its just too chaotic for me, and honestly, i don't understand how it all works. i'd rather get out of town for the weekend.
I went for 2 shows last year. I basically only went for ghostland, and it really was so chaotic. And for some reason this year seems to be even more! I'll be gone for most of it though, but maybe I can catch a show or 2

ok, question about tickets...
i want to see brett dennen. that's it. i don't care about anyone else. is there a way to buy a ticket just to his show? i've heard that you can buy tickets for like, venue only? help?!
I'm so excited for SXSW. I'm volunteering at the Mohawk all week, but hopefully I can catch some really good shows during the day. The only big name at the Mohawk (that I know) is Jens Lekman. I was really hoping to catch the IFC Crossroads Show with Yo La Tengo and My Morning Jacket, but it's 21+ only. Luckily I am seeing them in Houston Monday night.
I'll probably spend a good amount of time at the Dell/Paste Magazine Lounge.

Yes. I did this last year for ghostland observatory. I'm not sure how popular brett dennen is, but you're probably going to have to show up to the venue early and get in line. When I went there was a line outside of people waiting to get in. Last year, once I got into the venue, I was able to stay there for other shows after ghostland, so you may want to try to get in for whichever show you can and just stay in there, you know what i'm saying? But yeah, if they say that the show is sold out and everyone leaves, stick around for a few minutes because after the first song they will usually let a few more people in. This happened to me last year for ghostland and it was magical. HOpe this helps. Where is he playing?

its at stubbs, which is usually pretty popular, and tom morello is playing the same night as well. i did find out that a guy i grew up going to church with works for ME tv(the local music station...i'm sure you've seen it on channel 15). anywho, apparently he has like, all access, so i'm going to hit him up too and see what comes of it. in any case, thanks for the info!!! KARMA!!!
It's not that chaotic. I'm telling you guys the bands I listed are totally kick ass. The lady who did the juno soundtrack will be playing all over too.

i'm going to have to disagree on the chaos. i much prefer festivals like bonnaroo and ACL where you can just walk from stage to stage instead of being crammed into a bar
Not that chaotic? I need a defibrillator everytime I even consider looking at the official schedule and parties...not to mention all the unofficial events. My spreadsheet is looking a little crazy...
What i did was went thru the official schedule and then found a website that listed all of the free shows and made a schedule like that. Anyways, if anyone wants to check out any of the show that i have listed above let me know.
I work on East 7th (just east of 35), and this time of year I have to resist the urge to plow over the hundreds of skinny hipsters that litter the roads and impede my ability to move east-west with ease...

i would absolutely sell my soul at this point to see brett dennen at stubbs. he's playing with the body of war group on the 13th, as well as at pangea later that night.
what the wristbands do is let you get in line before the people with no wristbands. so for the body of war it might be worth getting wristbands, but what i am going to do is wait in line starting at 5 pm anf try to get in by paying the cover.

i'm usually off work around 3pm. i'm willing to stand in line that early and save you a spot. do you know how much cover would be?

thanks so much for the info sass! i think i'm reconciled myself to just waiting in line, though. i just can't justify spending that much money for one night of shows...even if it is brett dennen. i know i probably won't make the effort to make it to any other shows. i just can't handle the chaos of sxsw

ahhhh!! i can't believe you got in! i wasn't sure how many tickets they were selling. i was numero uno in that line, though.
apparently dennen and the rx bandits only did one song...lame. the rest of the show kicked ass, though. i made a thread in the other tent with pictures and a couple video links...you should check it out!
