Hey guys, well ACL is gonna release the lineup mid may (so it says on website)
and apparently the headliners are not the police, or pearl jam, yet bigger than red hot chili peppers, and the smashing pumpkins....says charles attal... so who could the headliners be??
Neil Young w/CSN, BB King, and Eric Clapton (but claims he isnt doin anything after crossroads for a few years) are the current names that are being thrown out there, along with Radiohead....whadda guys think???
Radiohead is fairly unlikely. They come to Texas once every few years and they always play Houston. I don't think they like it here. I mean, it'd be cool, but I just don't see it happening.
As for the other possibilities, Neil Young and Pete Townshend were the keynotes speakers the past couple of years, so I could see Crazy Horse or the Who headlining. Springsteen would be a hard get, but he did play Austin quite a bit back in the Armadillo days. U2's played Austin, but I see them as unlikely as well. Bob Dylan is another guy people are talking about. It seems Stevie Wonder's name gets thrown out there every year, but once again, I don't see it happening.
If you want to know who people around here want headlining, it might surprise you...Prince. He's got a big cult following in Austin and a connection with a big local band (albeit one that has a bit of a beef with Attal). He's in Vegas, so I don't see that happening, but it would be a coup if Attal could get him.
So yeah, I rate the likely candidates in this order: 1. The Who 2. Bob Dylan 3. Neil Young & Crazy Horse
After that, I honestly think Springsteen, Prince, U2, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead or any other acts you could thrown in there are just as likely. I just hope to God it's not the Eagles.
The Eagles broke up, so prolly not. However, I wouldn't mind seeing the Eagles! They got some good tunes.
They're not broken up. They're releasing an album in June and have talked about touring this fall.
Personally, I don't like the Eagles. But I also think they're just the kind of band ACL tends to book as its headliner. Part of why I tend to skip ACL even though I live a few miles from Zilker...

They didn't break up?? They had their Farewell tour a little bit ago and then I thought they were calling it quits. I even have the dvd of their show in Sydney, they all talk about how it's sad that it's coming to an end. Weird....

Yea im roaming the ACL boards now too, and that seems to be some kind of thing with Prince.

I also wouldn't be surprised if you hear RATM tossed out there as a possibility even though I don't see them vibing with the adult contemporary feel of ACL.
Supposedly Radiohead is supposed to tour, and I think ACL wanted them last year. I think ACL has probably tried to book them, so it depends on if they are serious about not touring. Green Plastic seems to think different.
RATM is almost certainly too hard. Prince would be the shit!
coldplay has been there and done that 2 years ago, i dont think theyd have them again, cause (correct me if im wrong) of all the ACLs theyve never had a repeat headliner

I just don't see it happening. Like I said before, I'm just not sure Radiohead particularly likes playing in Texas. I can't recall them playing more than one show here in any recent tours.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Not a surprise at all to me. Over on the ACL rumors boards some guy is claiming Stevie Wonder and Neil Young will be headlining. Could be another attention grabbing douchetard though...
It's not like they're going to say the lineup isn't exciting. That is a CSE Employee who as part of their job answers questions in the questions forum.
I think Neil Young or Bob Dylan or Springsteen will play. I think Young is the most likely, but Dylan isn't that far off. Springsteen is least likely to me, but the organizers would almost certainly take him (as the Sunday headliner) in a second.
^^^^ yea well, still....they said the same thing for roo, and for me the lineup was pretty exciting, so i guess we'll see if we get a 2/2 on what 'exciting' means
Okay, so the new rumor is absurd to say the least. Rumored to play ACL by some unnamed source floating around the blogosphere claiming to know a guy who knows a guy are as follows: Interpol the Arcade Fire the Decemberists Kings of Leon Ben Kweller the New Pornographers the Black Keys Sparklehorse Andrew Bird Kaiser Chiefs Damien Rice Explosions in the Sky the White Stripes Wilco Gov't Mule Spoon the Black Angels My Morning Jacket Modest Mouse the Roots Clap Your Hands Say Yeah the Hold Steady Yo La Tengo the Polyphonic Spree Asleep at The Wheel Peter Yorn Joss Stone Robert Earl Keen Joseph Arthur Peter, Bjorn, and John LCD Soundsystem Heartless Bastards Crowded House Queens of The Stone Age The Killers GOTAN Project The Good, the Bad & The Queen Bjork T Bone Burnett The Might Clouds of Joy James Hunter Amos Lee The Dynamites Big Sam's Funky Nation Andy Palacio Del McCoury Band Kevin McKinney Fionn Regan John Ralston Will Hoge Amy Whinehouse Augustana Raul Malo The National Broken West Bela Fleck & The Flecktones Stephen Marley Steve Earle Blue October Zap Mama Indigo Girls Cross Canadian Ragweed Paolo Nutini Zap Mama Kelly Willis Butch Walker Beau Soliel Devotchka Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings Back Dr. Slam Yusuf Islam Bob Dylan The Little Ones Sound Team Ryan Shaw STS9 Of Montreal Ian Ball Lucinda Williams Lily Allen Rodrigo Y Gabriela Rosehill Drive Artic Monkeys Bloc Party Ghostland Observatory Reverend Horton Heat Regina Spektor JJ Grey & Mofro Eli Young Band Ziggy Marley Jon Dee Graham Eddie Vedder Stevie Wonder Neil Young
That's right...Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Yusef Islam, The White Stripes, Bjork and Eddie Vedder not to mention everyone else playing today and their mom's and grandparents and grandparents in house caretakers and the caretakers pets.

Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, and Bjork would have to headline. Which means Yusuf, Dylan, White Stripes, Killers, Vedder among others all as opening acts. While it would be awesome I find it hard to believe.
ugh screw byork dylan would headline, dont forget they have double headliners on friday and saturday, so really they both could headline if this was true, and wow best money ever to be spent if it is.
They are now backtracking on the presence of Eddie Vedder and the Killers. Apparently they are only in the POSTER DESIGN. Which is of course, how those fake Coachella lineups get leaked onto the internet. Some designer test formats the final announcement poster usually using dream bands and when one of their friends sneaks a peak, they unwittingly start a rumor that equals $$$ for concert promoters. CSE is the king of pulling that kind of stunt off. Major props to AC/Superfly for having the balls to release your lineup BEFORE you start selling tickets and not a month AFTER.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by the decisions to sell tickets on the premise of false lineups (which very well could have been leaked by the management). Ah well, I've got tickets to the only festivals that matter to me (Bonnaroo and the P-fork ATP fest, to clarify) so let everyone else do what they will.
Yeah...I'll probably drop the 140 on ACL too since it's in my backyard, and I largely skipped it the past couple years. But CSE still sucks with the current policy of selling tix this far in advance of lineup release. Attal talks a big game, but then this is the same guy who guaranteed Manu Chao at ACL '07 and ended up giving Austin Manu Chao at Stubb's, a rather small venue to contain Manu's show.
